  1. Maybe attitudes different in france, children are less pampered or cared for in what would be in the UK thought of as a old fashioned way, depending on your what your view point is. I reckon there are cultural norms that change over time, & they can also vary alot between countries about what is deemed the right way to do things. For example: BBC News - The babies who nap in sub-zero temperatures
  2. I don't think i would gone to collect any of the timber if didn't have the money to pay ready. Can understand why the guy was upset, as when some people say they will pay tommorow, tommorow never comes.
  3. Things are so different theese days Don't remember a cold or flu being a a good enough excuse to skip school unless you started projectile vomiting everywhere. Also parents never used to give any medicine for children for cold or flu etc apart from calpol if it was serious a temperature. Now it seems to be more the opnion of the child rather than just the school teacher etc or the dinner lady in my old primary school.

  8. Is you neighbour crazy? How did you come up with that price!?
  9. There must be 100's of caravans locally with people living in them. In fields hidden behind trees or hedges, or amongst ruined farm buildings, espescially down the remote country lanes, I notice them all when I go on bike rides, & can sometimes smell the woodstove smoke before i spot them. Don't think most people living here realize there are so many as they don't travel all the back roads much or pay attention as there often well hidden. Number locally has increases I reckon in the last few years due to the economy & house prices. Also some gypsy or traveller type encampment of about 10 old buses etc in layby on a mainroad has being in same place over 4 years, right in plain view.
  10. Wonder what bird hes stealing the eggs & nests from? Or if fledglings have flown are thoose fakes eggs?
  11. Cubic yards & metric tonnes? Many he should use cords? Wish the uk had gone properly metric & not this mish mash of 2 unit systems all the time, that sellers like to use to confuse people. There was stall at the local market here selling veg by the lbs which I thought was illegal nowadays? His woodland looks nicely managed though but the website is confusing.

  21. Sounds terrible... No way to make you own personal flood defenses? From what they said on news etc seems EA will only spent money with a cost benefit analysis of the damage flooding does, so will invest to protect cities/towns but not bother about rural places.
  22. Does he have a forest garden? Stuff like wild garlic & blackberries? Are many crops shade tolerent plants very productive? From the reading iv'e done I think light lvls are abit low in the UK for forest gardens to be very productive due to shading issues, compared to a convention veg plot. See seven layer sytem:Forest gardening - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia They do work well in tropical climates though. Just my opnion though, plenty seem to think they are a viable way to produce food etc. Have you watched that Martin Crawford DVD wood like to visit somewhere like that....
  23. Acacia karroo Dunno if would grow in UK?
