  2. So this back stabbing guy offered the landowner money for the timber extracted? Hence they cut a new deal.. Though it wouldn't be very profitable to pay for standing timber from thinnings?
  3. Torrified wood is suppose to be hydrophobic so it won't reabsorb any moisture. I also dry wood on top of the rayburn or in the oven but it has an annoying tendency to catch fire if left on to long Need to work out how to do it but without any oxygen getting to the wood, so it doesn't start to smolder Noticed that they are also selling a rocket & heat exchanger stoves for coppice wood http://www.blackmountainwoodfuels.co.uk/pdfs/THE%20STICK%20STOVE%20-%20BROCHURE.pdf
  4. Get a farmer to attack it with a flail Or cut it with loppers & a silky saw, & keep the bigger stems for firewood. Keep the elder for making champange.
  5. There website seems to be short on info & high on marketing spin. Torrefraction is interesting though Torrefaction Cracks the Biomass Challenge | Renewable Energy World Magazine Article Lists different manufacture methods on the second page.
  6. Says schools & community groups can get free tree packs. But closed for spring 2013, but more will be available for autum 2013 soon. Free packs of trees for your community, school or youth group from the Woodland Trust
  7. Found thoose bits Google Translate Google Translate Wonder if Makita DCS410 parts fit?
  8. But is it safe? Is It Safe to Burn Driftwood in a Stove? Also alot of stoves manuals say it casues corrosion.
  9. Are they banks like thoose ones but which are bare of trees that you are going to plant up? Looks like thoose beech will coppice well Round here thoose hedges are called cloddiau http://www.dry-stone.co.uk/Pages/Books/Articles/Cloddiau/Cloddiau.html
  10. Some oleo macs here. Ekosiarka.eu - Lawnmowers, Brushcutters, Chainsaws, Snow Throwers Efco is the same saws as oleo mac, both italian made I think. Italian version of arbtalk has alot of discussion on efco/oleomac. Google Translate Was reading there about active 40.40 (another italian brand) as cheapo version of the stihl 201 rear handle. They seem to rate it.
  11. Theese look to be the germen versions of arbtalk maybe you could start a thread there ask if someone might know what buisness is like in the area etc. Foren-Übersicht • Motorsägen-Portal Forum für Landwirtschaft, Landtechnik, Forstwirtschaft und Verbraucher • Landtreff.de Thread about lack of decent money in forestry i think from what I can understand from google translate. Google Translate
  12. Maximum growth for decent timber/firewood I suppose don't what them stunted by spacing being to close, but as they seem to be doing well & seems a shame to fell any. Isn't really any brash apart from the hazel thickets which are stating to stuggle due to being overshadowed. Trees seem to have self pruned to above head height suppose would help if I posted pictures Something like this I was thinking of doing the tending bit: Teagasc - Forestry - thinning and tending of broadleaves I need to measure top height http://www.teagasc.ie/forestry/docs/research/Teagasc_silvicultural_guidelines_Broadleaves.pdf
  13. Have a small area (less than half acre area) of mixed hardwood mostly ash some hazel field maple alder about 20 yers old , ash has out grown the other species, overshadows the hazel etc. Reckon trunks are about 150mm dbh tall narrow trees mostly Was thinking maybe they should be thinned out abit they haven't being pruned at all since they were planted? Any idea on what spacing to thin or a link to some before & after pics of thinng similar size trees?
  14. Thoose pictures are amazing they look like fairytale trees out of brothers grimm story illustration. Very top heavy looking suppose if there left to long un pollarded a huge chunk will break off? So if more regulary manged there be alot less decay?...
  15. Not bothered to weigh myself for yrs but I rememeber ages ago that a Nintendo Wii told me I am a fatty my Wii Me had a proper belly looked like a fastso lol & I was classed as obsese according to it. Didn't really believe it but I dunno what the official classification for being a lard arse is? From wiki: So will need to do this calculation to find out.... Reckon if I lost a few pounds I could improve my cycling speed as its alot cheaper than buying a new lighter bicycle. EDIT :Ok workrd out im 1.77m & 87kg makes me abit of a fatty buy noy obese phew
  16. This one? OREGON® CS250 PowerNow? 36V Battery Chainsaw
  17. Might be an idea to get a silkly saw also?
  18. Best ones iv'e used were fisakars power gear anvil PowerGear? II Anvil Lopper (L) / Cutting Tools / Products | Fiskars UK They look cheap nasty & plastic handles but they cut with little effort though larger diameter stuff than you would think they would never be able to tackle & they leave a clean cut Loads better than C.K tools & corona ones I have. ARS do some really top quality looking ones never tried then: ARS Lopping Shears LPA-30L - Sorbus International Ltd
  19. Tested a few logs of monterey cypress felled in summer & its all seems to be under 15% one piece was 6% stored outside with tarp over top, was expecting 25% at best.... Have the same model moisture meter as you & thought it must of broken but it was giving sensible readings of over 20% for other wood piles with sycamore ash etc. Something strange about cypress
  20. Not had a rat problem since had current cats Rats used to live in the dry stone walls & go eat the hen food from the feed hoppers. They seem to have killed all rats & since then none have returned, they only seem to catch rabbits & mice & birds now not had as rat body brought in house for ages Neighbour has a rabbit problem eating stuff in garden but ive never see live rabbits near house since the cats are here only a few hares. Maybe they are to big for cats to eat?
  21. The OTT tactical strike crenallated bezels design on my cheapo surefire look alike make me Its pretty solid though.
  22. Just recently got a cree 400 lumen torch on ebay cheap for under a fiver. It seems a good quality build, very similar to a lenser p7 200 lumen I have, & is alot brighter light but maybe not twice as bright side by side, so the 400 lumen claim is likely slighlty optimistic Being using it as bike light. Brand NEW zoomable 7w cree Q5 LED flashlight torch 400 lumens | eBay Takes three small AAA battery so on full beam they probably won't last as long as that light you linked up, but its still plenty bright enough on dim setting unless you need to see a mile across a field etc. Have a halogen tourch same style as one linked but the inbuilt battery has gone wrong & now only seems to hold enough charge to work for 5 minutes after charging Thinking of getting a pair off theese one now as someone I know goes mountain biking at night with 2 of them reckons they are as bright as car headlights. 1600 Lumen Zoomable CREE XM-L T6 LED 18650 Flashlight Torch Zoom Lamp Light | eBay
  23. I never tried eco logs, they look too much like mdf or chipboard so how can you be sure if theres no nasty stuff there putting in them. Also there more expensive. Is there a quality standards branding scheme with them so you can trust what you are getting coz unlike normal firewood you can'y tell just by looking at it?
  24. The spec did: Same displacement, 49.3cc, Same saw weight listed 5.1kg, both 2.6kw. Zenoah - CHAINSAW G5000 NEW Chainsaws, ECHO CS-510 CHAINSAW offered for sale £579.00 Thoose IPL shows its not same engine design just has same spec listed...
