  1. I don'y understand why they hadn't already banned imports ages ago if it has wiped out so many trees in europe? Seems abit late now In Demark: Stupidity?
  2. The "kiln dried" timber was all black like charcoal? Also he didn't use the moisture meter right he should of split a log not just tested the end
  3. Solo 643 IP Semi Professional Chainsaw - Solo Garden Solo 643IP-18BC 18-inch 40cc 2.7 HP 2-cycle Gas Powered Chain Saw | eBay @ 4.1kg & 2.0kw sounds superior power/weight compared to all the similar sized orange saws?
  4. Why is the CS-352ES A new model of that saw? heavier & less powerful? Echo CS-352ES Rear Handle Petrol Chainsaw
  5. Is Apsen the only eco Alkylate fuel available in the UK? Surely with only one company making the product available the price will never come down much as they have no competition. If 2 or 3 companies did a similar product i might be different....
  6. Iv'e had several people selling logs, claiming a builders bag equals 1 ton of logs or 1 cubic meter of logs "because 1 ton of sand comes in them etc" Reckon some people must even believe them?
  7. Out of different loads bought locally about half the loads that were called seasoned were seasoned properly. One place gave me a sample log to test with moisture meter than was 15% moisture. The rest of load was over 35% when it arrived. I reckon he must have kept a few seasoned logs back for the difficult customers brandishing moisture meters Made me laugh at the thought of him strategically keeping a special dry logs too hand etc. Didn't mind that much though as have enough space to season at home & the load was more generous in volume that some others for the price. would of being annoying if volume was short or if I only had small storge space etc though
  8. I did abit of felling as a national trust volunteer/trainee rural estate worker Thinning a conifer platation to make glades & to increase biodiversity. All wood was logged up & left in stacks for "the bugs".
  9. Theres some special pallet breaker bars you can get for breaking pallets, I have one its very handy. Looks abit like this: Dock & Truck Equipment | Pallet Pullers & Breakers | Pallet Busters & Skid Breakers - GlobalIndustrial.com. As for the wood treatment there are symbols marked on the pallets: Pallet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Also you are suppose to have a waste licence I think? But maybe thats only if you collect? One place I asked about with alot of pallets said you can collect pallets but only at the weekend when no one was around?! Sounded dodgy council can fine you etc.
  10. Theres a really impressive avenue of mosly oaks/beech that goes on for miles. Lon goed: Y Lon Goed:: OS grid SH4541 :: Geograph Britain and Ireland - photograph every grid square! Will have to check there spacing
  11. If its too wide to reach from outside climb up inside with a silky & loppers then work in circles around were you pop out of the top, then repeat etc. Do the outside edges with long reach pruner. 15 ft height doesn't sound that bad unless its a really wide hedge. Really extra wide hegdes can be tricky sometimes, scratchy leylandi etc.
  12. Still tempted by this saw http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/chainsaws/45202-zenoah-komatsu.html Or this one http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/chainsaws/45881-active-brand-chainsaws.html No one would ever steal a saw that puke green colour I reckon Getting spares would be hard though maybe.
  13. Great firewood really high btu (higher than oak) Get a moisture meter
  14. I think kiln dried usually means the logs are over priced to cover the extra cost of kiln drying. Its not the method of seasoning that matters its the final moisture content. Air seasoned logs can be just as seasoned (the moisture content) as kiln dried ones. Get a moisture meter from ebay for under a tenner. As for burn time burn hardwood rather than softwood if you want it to last longer not wetter wood... Ideal is a mix of the two softwood get the fire going faster then hardwood to keep it in etc.. Anything under 20% moisure (test a log by splitting it & testing the inside) is good to burn. Also if you have a decent room for a log store even unseasoned/part seasoned (which is often sold as seasoned so be careful) is ok & you can finish the seasoning yourself.
  15. Dolmar PS-9010 parts will fit it also at least.
  16. Noticed that some of the still green acorns on oak trees I have planted are half eaten while still on the tree. Does that mean there are now squirrels around or could it be other animals doing it?
  17. Wouldn't a batch wood gasification boiler be better alternative for something of that size? Kocio? zgazuj?cy drewno Orlan Super 25kW Orlan Super 25Kw + Akvaterm 2000 litre installation blog I was just thinking wouldn't you have to kart a large volume of wood into the lounge to keep that monster size stove feed constanly? cost alot more over all though i suppose.
  18. I bought some corona bypass loppers that looked really good but are pretty rubbish at lopping compared to fiskars ones, but maybe there other stuff in ther range is good? Corona 36-inch Professional High Performance Orchard Lopper (AL-8481)
  19. It was a fergy then in the next shot they had a fordson i think? Or maybe I just imaged that.
