  1. Yes, nice saw the 420, I'd much prefer one of them over any similar priced Stihl or Husky any day & it ports rather well too! N

    Husqvarna oil?

As I understand it: Stihl HP = mineral based - red Stihl HP Super = semi synthetic Stihl HP Ultra = synthetic The super & ultra are green The Husqvarna XP is also synthetic The LS is semi synthetic N

  4. Bloody hell, that must take some doing, ours is 29 years old now Yes, mine go in the machine, I just empty the chip from the pockets - on program No3 - normal wash. if theyre really bad - prewash in a 30 litre bucket N

Can't be that bad can it Stubby? N
  6. Yes, there is something very satisfying about blacksmithing work in a forge, I made a large plant holder, with nice scrolls along the sides when I was at school many years ago. My mother used to work at Bewdley museum where there was a forge around the back - nothing like a fried egg sandwich done on the shovel. N
  7. Yes, over-reacting I think, unless you'd got them really mucky Just wash them a little more frequently N
  8. Hi Mark, I have a Lansky set like Joe posted Its a minor fiddle to set the knife blade in the clamp to use it, but it does get them very sharp & they seem to maintain their edge once sharpened. N
  9. 'Endless firewood' can you quantify that? otherwise you need something like an MS660 or a 390xp I dont think you'd regret uping your budget slightly to the pro models by Dolmar or Echo in my opinion they are better made than the Stihls or Huskies at the same price. Shavey is your man on here for Dolmar, the 420 is a cracking saw Ive used Radmore & Tucker at Exeter & they seem pretty good but there are other Echo dealers around That Makita looks a good deal Joe. N
  10. And Dolmar? Personally, some of the later offerings from Stihl & Husqvarna seem to be prone to certain types of faults, OK there are a lot of them out there & people only post when they have a problem. However, from what Ive seen & heard of saws from Echo & Dolmar if I was looking at a new saw they would be top of my list. N

Hi should have happened on a re-boot Not sure why its stopped, I know that procedure to work - seems just another bloody useless quirk of windows Im afraid. Maybe F8 on startup & last known good? or hold Windows key & press R, type msconfig & click OK N

    Windows 10.

OK, not quite sure why its should take three hours to re-config after a simple removal of an update. MS cause a lot of grief by thrusting its incarnation upon everyone Is it OK now? N

    Windows 10.

Yes, thats a good way to run Windows, Ive used VMWare for a good few years & Virtual box also quite a good solution, prefer VM Ware though very good for testing server confgurations & software etc When Windows borks its easy to restore from a snapshot N

    Windows 10.

I've known people experience problems trying to revert the same day, so take that with a large pinch of salt If you have a disk image - preferably on a separate disk altogether (plug in USB job is usually fine) then you can blow away the old installation completely & revert to where you started from. I used to use Acronis my main exposure was to the network edition, ive used the HO version, but not recently, its widely used and very good, there are other disk image softwares R-Drive isnt bad & FOG Project is open source - multi platform - so worth a look N

    Windows 10.

Its a very well designed piece of spyware as MS collects a lot of information, so if you are happy to share everything with Microsoft then crack on - Id make a disk image first with something like Acronis True Image so you can go back. There remains issues with Wireless networking, an outstanding problem since WinXP. Theres the usual driver issues, so if you have any specific hardware that must function Id check if it is supported. Theres a rather large update (v1511) to it that has issues with some devices supporting SD cards as well as changing your default apps back to the Microsoft choices, etc. Theres more, but you can google it Ultimately, this is Microsofts platform to change your software from the pay once model to ransom ware, ooops, I mean pay monthly. Enjoy N
