  1. Hi If you want a small saw on 15" then the Dolmar 420 is a good one, about the same weight as an MS241 but a lot less money. N
  2. Hi 50cc - Dolmar 115 60cc - Echo 620sx or Dolmar 6100 70cc - Husqvarna 365 but maybe bit heavy I too would avoid auto-tune they seem expensive if they need attention N
  3. Agree entirely, & I think I would also keep the 361 N
  4. Class, There will be a time, sadly when your father is no longer around. But memories like that remain forever. If you wrapped these people up in cotton wool they'd object & quite rightly too, because life is for living not avoiding. Thanks for sharing your story. N
  5. Perhaps the Dolmar 115 as well then? The Echos are nice too, I get CS390'd, 450'd & 620'd by my Echo loving French friend Phillipe who has a nice tractor also... I understand there is a rule - correct number of saws =(current number +1) N
  6. Me too, I dont want to miss getting a Dolly 420 which will eventually replace my ms250 & I would also like a 390xp but might be a step too far so with a D420, H346, H365 & H390 be fairly sorted for most stuff. N
  7. Hi The 260 & the 361 are good saws, I dont know about 024 but most of the older stuff seems pretty good. Id keep them all & run them till they've had it. N
  8. And up a tree with it too! Good effort, I think 90cc put a smile on anyones face apart from my O/H if I bought one N
  9. Hi Stubby Well it could have been worse, you're lucky to have your father live to 91 so you look after him & if he enjoys the odd glass now and again thats fine. N
  10. Hi Dean Yes they are very good to deal with & the SugiHara bars very long lasting well done, nice prize & useful goodies N
  11. Yes, Ive heard the oval shape in the drive - the rim drive ones were thought to be related but I think a few with spurs also. N
  12. If you divide engine cc by three that is max bar length in inches This is of course a guide & if exceeded then the saw will rev slower due to the increased reistance of the chain around a longer bar. A longer bar is fine but you need to keep the chain sharp. There may also be an issue with oiling a longer bar sufficiently. Hence the suggested range of bar lengths for a particular saw. N
  13. I did see a post regarding the re-vamped 261 & 362 recently which suffers similar problem, but time will tell. A 16" bar seems too long for a 181, but if you're not in a rush. N
  14. Hi I would avoid the MS261 unless someone convinces me the clutch bearing issues which continue to crop up all too frequently here are fixed for good. If you do get a 181 its best with a shorter bar as its only about 32cc, Id say 16 is max for my own 250 - 45cc ? which runs a 14" well now its been modded. I would take a good look at Dolmar 350/420 or similar priced Echo & run it on Aspen if your not going to be using it frequently. N

    RIP Terry

Yes, very sad loss, RIP Sir Terry Wogan. N
  17. Just to clarify I wasn't saying the 260, 460 or 660 were old, but older meaning not current models & not referring to reliability although a 260 is better than your average 261 & Id have a 460/660 over the new ones. just like I am older than most of you here, but not old N
  18. GardenKit is spot on I get 10w-30 syth oil from Halfords, I think it may be sold as motorcycle oil but its the correct grade for Honda. 5W-30 would just flow better at lower temperatures which Im using at the mo as there wasnt any 10w-30 N
  19. Hi, the older Stihls are good ones, 260, 460 & 660 my favs. Alternatively what about something like a Husqvarna 242 or a 288 ? N

    Echo cs 501

Nice saw, run it on Aspen maybe? N
  21. Yep, Shame its gone overseas, these days all the manufacturers want is to produce is vehicles that need constant attention or are problematic - usually expensive ones. N
  22. Hi Nice to see some core plugs that have worked! N
  23. Well done, that'l run a 20" really well & probably fine with 25" Very good price you got it if the same as a 362 Agreed, Ive just been 'Echo'd' by a friend who has four of them N
