  1. I agree totally. I find that in many suburban streets and also narrow country lanes, I find myself driving considerably less than the 30 limit as in many places its just not safe. There should IMO be more 20 mph limits.
  2. I expect someone wll be along to disagree shortly Spud.
  3. Wrong, any cutting, not just big cuts, loads it enough to bring it back to two stroking.
  4. Very often people try to get the chain to stop creeping by lowering the idle speed, but you can only go so far before the idle becomes unstable. If the mixture is lean the engine will race at idle, but will be faster than the specified idle speed, richening will bring it down but if you reach the specified speed and the chain is still creeping then it indicates week springs which allow the centrifugal clutch shoes to fly out at too slow a speed. A very common problem.
  5. Thats a little too general as many 2t oils are semi-synthetic, a weird and pointless blend of mineral and synthetic, but nethertheless thats what they are. Some will state 50:1, others wont. Take notice of whats written on the bottle for dilution. Beware of any that state something like "2 cycle engine oil for all 2 strokes such as mopeds, chainsaws, and outboard motors". Cool running, water cooled outboards, need a different oil to high revving air cooled engines, so any oil labelled as above is from an ill informed supplier and should therfore be avoided
  6. Firstly, the creeping chain is due to weak or broken clutch shoe return springs, or possibly a failed needle bearing. Secondly, where to come to learn odd bits of info?, Here of course.
  7. As I recall it was a rubbish night on the TV......
  8. I hope your customer is going to pay ALL your hours you will spend on that one!
  9. Totally agree with Skyhuck on this one. (edit) and FarmerBen. Accountant does not charge much to do it, covers most of cost in business accounts. I know its done correctly, and to be frank, I can use my time more profitably. Or just spend more time on Arbtalk:001_rolleyes:
  10. This is the very first thing to do. Make sure the fuel is fresh, i.e less than 30 days, and that the plug is clean and preferably new. Try to start. if no luck, remove air cleaner and drbble a drop of fuel straight into the carb throat, try again. if you get a burp, or even a couple of seconds run, then you have proved ignition, so you should clean and rekit carb, after first checking fuel lines for damage, rot, holes etc. Post your results and someone will give more advice.
  11. Cancel the anger management course!!!!!
  12. Mileage is a bit on the high side, try not to fall in love with it but look out for a lower mileage one. You might think they are difficult to find, but you will find loads just after you bought this one!
  13. Just have to remember why you are doing it. Because the customer either can't, or does not want to do it so he turns to you. The time the job actually takes is the the time from when you decide to do it to the time its finished and you are free to start the next. So clearing the space to work on it, getting it to that space, deciding what to do, looking up part, sourcing the part, fitting it, testing it, taking the machine out of the work space, tidying up the workspace, writing the invoice and ringing the customer. I, bet you can't do that in 5 minutes!! Got to be worth 1/2 hr minimum. and at a higher rate for first 1/2 hr than normal. I would charge £25 to a good customer, £45 to a stranger.
  14. Best check it in the morning before he comes to get it! Nothing more embarassing than having to send customer away while you 'have another go' I have learnt the hard way to let them go cold and test again, often got to do a little retune for cold start / pickup.
  15. Dont wait for the mowers to break, get em in now for service. I,ve got 32 here that have come in this week, as well as two lawn tractors, several 2 strokes and 12 flippin garden shears!
  16. Your hunch paid off. Luck or Skill?, I expect its a little of both! If I tried that I bet I would have an expensive flywheel in stock that I would never sell.
  17. Careful Spud, this will drive you mad, I know how you feel. Sorry, I've no ideas to offer. Too many Grrrrrrr,s and you will have to book on an anger management course.
  18. He must have had a good couple of years then. Lucky barristerd.
  19. I guess these guys dont charge by the hour, but by the result. The good ones handle massive cases, for massive money. One who stores his cars near me recently bought outright a Bentley Arnage, a Bentley Continental, an Aston Martin and a Range Rover Sport within 2 years. I guess thats well over half a million of pocket money.
  20. All very well until the company that works for the council goes bust as at least two massive property maintenance companies have in the UK in recent years. The lower down the line you are, the less chance of getting your money. In theory anyone getting a lot of work from such a company could lose 6 months income. I say keep it tight.
  21. I agree with this in general, but to be fair there are good products coming out of China where the Western importer overseas the quality control. As had been said before, if you want it good, they will make it good. If you want rubbish they will make rubbish. The way of avoiding trouble is to buy from reputable, UK based, suppliers who are selling chinese product, under their own banner, and with complete after sales care. Also worth noting that when you buy product which is not chinese, eg Stihl, you will find components that are chinese built, eg Zama Carburettors. Is a product only as good as its weakest link?? Food for thought!

    026 help:(

Now you are worrying me too.. Still lets see what we can do to retrain a car mechanic:biggrin: There are 2 screws side by side, the one nearest the piston is the L screw for low speed mixture adjustment. The one nearest the air filter is the H screw for high speed adjustment. The larger screw lower down is the idle speed aduster. The adjustment of these screws is complex and each will effect the others. Adjustment without knowledge can be disastrous for the saw. I suggest you read all of Spudulikes. "whats on my bench thread" from which you will learn a lot. Also the recent. " MS 260 over-fuelling" thread comprehensively explains carb tuning. If you need more advice post again with specific questions, good luck.
  23. The exhaust gases from using a standard petrol/oil mix ar fairly unpleasant, and in a confined area or with the exhaust bouncing back at you they can cause some unwanted side effects. Nausea and headaches are commonplace as is a loss of energy and some drowsiness. In your situation they will be worse than normal. Give Aspen fuel a try, the fumes are many times less toxic and you will notice an immediate improvement.
