    Rope care

Hello peeps. Right is there a right and a wrong way to clean/wash/dry rope do you use soap Or just clean water, also how often do you clean them. Reason I ask is that my rope has got soaked and it stinks and thought I could do with a wash but really used it a lot. But don't want it to get wrecked a they r not cheap. Thanks
