  1. Looks normal. Chains will get got and dust will collect. Drive links look clean. Toughen up, Sally. Go cut some wood!
  2. Sounds like B&C tension is fine. Run the saw full throttle or not at all. 2 strokes ain't designed to be feathered.
  3. Torque setting is tight enough to keep it on, not so tight as you strip the threads. How tight are you running the chain. This is an unknown quantity that can affect bar lubrication.
  4. Should've bought a 560xp Ah that felt so good!
  5. Like I said, if it's regularly pumping oil at full revs the saw is fine. Check that the oil hole in the bar matches up. Make sure the oil hole is clean. Fair enough for wanting to sort it yourself, it's how you learn. Any stihl dealer is obligated to fix it for you if it's under warranty, though they may not prioritise you if you didn't buy from them.
  6. That's the answer really, if it's not working as it should, send it back!
  7. Okay, I'll try and be helpful, although any smug remarks coming from SawTroll are justified. Take the sprocket cover off and rev the saw. Oil should come out of the slot regularly. If it is doing this then the saw works fine, it's a bar problem. Either a blocked bar hole or it's misaligned. Oregon bars have larger oil holes.
  8. Still pleased with your deal?
  9. Darren's one is decent, there are plenty more here: http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=22472 I spent a lot of time and effort splicing mine: Then I decided that for the money I'd rather have a Ropeguide. It works so much better than my homemade one, without the niggling doubt in my mind about my splicing capabilities.
  10. I wish I could read.
  11. Oh dear, I actually grinned at that! Can any one of us hold our hands up and say we haven't buggered a tree, one way or the other?
  12. Keith Irvine hires chippers from cold Ashby way.
  13. Sorry Adam, I don't mean to take the much out of your situation. It's just you never reply to my love letters.
  14. Get you, you flash git! It's a proper shame when they get dirty mind.
  15. It's educational. Plus I feel partly responsible for Adam's arthritic elbow.
  16. No, the metal is passing over the rope so fast that the rope doesn't absorb heat. The crabs do though. You must have used a speed line before? I just use steel screw gates. Cheap and strong.
  17. I've owned his "Lilly White Ass" for 15 minutes before. Money well spent, though it's cost me a fortune since in medical cream
  18. If you've spent £300 what's another £200 on 25 slings and krabs? They'll come in handy
  19. He's right though. Well not 500. I've never bothered with a haul back zipline. In my experience to make that system worthwhile you need to take big bits, and it's not always easy to do that when your zipline is anchored high up on a skinny top. I have about 12 slings/crabs which I'll zip down and get sent back up. On that job 20 sounds more like it.
  20. Rubbish. You're too young for Arthritis and too good at what you do to leave the industry! Mind you, if you do leave there'll be one less better climber than me in the UK. How old are you mate? It was pretty gutting reading that, since you seem to be at the top of your game and really passionate about it. Are there any treatments that might help you? I got the impression there was more to your post than just physical problems. You could always get a job with one of the prestigious training company's, getting paid a bundle teaching spotty know I talks how to climb, and occasionally climbing the really good trees in the country when you fancy it!
  21. You shouldn't need saw trousers for cs38. For cs39 you'll need type c
  22. I'd say 25" was the very limit. I tried mine on a 25" for cross cutting and it was painfully slow, so it now runs a 20". Consider that milling is a lot harder on a saw that cross cutting and I reckon 25" will be too much, unless you buy a skip chain. It'll still be slow mind.
  23. Hi Andy, glad to hear you're making progress. If you don't mind my asking what kind of factors do you feel contributed to your heart attack/stroke? Age, lifestyle, diet etc. I realise this is a personal question, and possibly inappropriate even, but I'm asking because I wonder how many of us could be heading down the same road. Myself, I'm 26, pretty active at work, but nicotine, coffee and beer/wine are 3 of my major food groups. My cardio is pathetic and my eating habits are erratic at best. At 26 I always figure I can get away with it and that I'm too young to be running into serious health problems, but I guess most people feel that way until something proves them wrong.
  24. Is it a secret Jon?
