  1. I just use steel screw gates or relegated 3 ways.
  2. That was a reply to your suggesting I offer the bloke advice. Okay, there's wires crossed here. My original post was aimed at the bloke quoting by tree height x money. I guess I quoted you because I felt what I was adding on to what you were saying. See, no harm was meant
  3. My point is exactly what the last line of the quote read! I wasn't arguing with your post, more agreeing to it, but my message stands: pricing like that is not only unreliable, it's stupid. You want advice? Work in the industry for a couple of years. Find out how long jobs take. Then buy your kit. You'll then know how to price!
  4. A 10' tree doesn't mean anything. It could be 2 hours for one bloke if it's self set ash or the like, or it could be 10 pre topped Connys at 2 men 2 days. One equation for tree pricing is ridiculous.
  5. Try upping the gearing to 8t on a 550 13" Al, the new 550s have had all the problems ironed out. If you use a good oil, good fuel, and generally aren't a pillock with saws the a Husky should see you well. What is the saw going to be used for? If it's mainly a chipper saw just get a 181 or 211. If you need the grunt then get the 50cc husky or dolly.
  6. Haha knee pads not necessary, got two big callouses now! Thanks very much, if you drop me a PM you're about well sort something out (not like that!) Out of interest what don't you like about the RG? I'm using a homemade pulley saver but it doesn't retrieve so good, and I occasionally get the retrieval clip pulled through the pinto.
  7. This is good advice. I use a 441 and a 460. The 441 is on a 20" and it's good, but wouldn't cope with much more. The 460 is on a 25" and has power to spare. Guess which one is mine
  8. You might change your mind at the next show... Many thanks Steve. Still after a Ropeguide, and there's plenty of favours left... ...I'm extremely flexible.
  9. Are you after favours, kind words, or cash? Never mind, I'll PM you
  10. Sounds bad mate, look after yourself. This should be the prime of your life. As for handsome lessons, I teach them, and do very well from it!
  11. The trading place is closed and I can't seem to log in to ArbTrader, so I'll put it here and hope. I'm after a Sj and Ropeguide, in good condition and not abused. I don't mind paying full whack but there's probably someone here who bought one, didn't like it, and is gathering dust. I can offer sexual favours, kind words, or cash.
  12. +1 for the Cut'n'Climb. Mines around 3 years old, it leaks ever so slightly now in proper heave rain but it's still a great tough jacket.
  13. Okay mate, keep it cool. I'm free apart from Wednesday. Quick pint and I'll talk you off the ledge
  14. Dude, sounds like you need a good climb! Text me and we'll sort out a good day of it.
  15. Steady on mate! If that's the criteria then that means I'm a pro too! I don't want to be associated with you professionals!
  16. I find that it's when you start to think that you push your luck!
  17. So you're planning to buy all new low emissions kit because you can't afford Aspen?
  18. That's nothing! A training provider near me takes on work (clearance, thinnings, pruning etc), they gets paid to train lads for their tickets, gets them to do the work for part of their training, then takes the chipper training lads to clear up! He gets paid by the client, the trainees, everyone!
  19. I wonder if the folk that have the gear to fix broken lines, break more than those who don't...
  20. Call me a cynic but I reckon shower rape was the goal all along...
  21. You could always send it to Spud
  22. Try it mate, when things go well there's such a sense of satisfaction, but when they don't I've almost been reduced to tears! It's an expensive hobby though, I keep seeing stuff and thinking: " I need that"! Buy some tenex and a wire fid and start making dead eyes and whoopies. If you can't manage that than go no further! If you do then be prepared for an addiction!
  23. Why haven't you modded it?! Seems very unlike you is all.
