  1. I welded the bolts on mine when one got stolen just around the corner, only to find out that they used some heavy duty pipe cutters and never touched the bolts to steal the cat. So I don't really know what the answer is.
  2. Just checked google cached for greenmech and it was cached on 16th jan and then again on 19th feb so not a lot of help i'm afraid. Hope ebay can help out.

  5. I'm interested in this, have you had to have the truck emmisions checked paperwork changed regarding emmisions ? as surely the LEZ works by the emissions for your trucks year and not the engine year.
  6. Sorry to de-rail the thread but on a WM if the top guide rail is worn is it easy to adjust ?. I had a look at one the other day and there was 2 flats worn into the top round guide rail.
  7. Not strictly true anymore Macs seen as a soft target And as it says the more popular they become the more it's going to happen I considered trying a mac last year but decided against it because of the hastle of getting some of my windows only software running on it.
  8. They were good tractors, I had one we used for years that had the loader removed and we used it as a tow and mowing tractor.

It also has a fridge but as things were tight there is no room for a table, its an eat on your lap job I have been asked by several people who are interested in it if I would consider taking it into production in grp, it weighs in at just over half a ton. A sort of gallery of it's build is here The mounting system has been changed since the first shot to something better looking and more substantial with custom chassis brackets.

I have one that I built because the only ones you can buy as you say are a bit too large, the trouble is they are all made so you can sleep across them which makes them much wider than a euro pickup They have lots of advantages over other campers imo, mine has a pop up roof and is the same width as the buck, not very big but is a doddle to drive even in the highest of winds, has a cooker, sink, heating and fridge, for a toilet we use the porta potti in a toilet tent I think if you want smaller than the average you will have to sacrifice some of the home comforts, but as far as i'm aware there is no one making smaller solid sided one's(you can get canvas popups) what we have has served us ok, but is really only suitable for weekends, and because we now want to go away for longer I have just bought a T4 hightop camper, so will be parting with the demount. My next project is a demountable on a 130 landy, which because they are slightly wider can be slept across widthways, because I still think they offer the best of all worlds, and 4wd is also very handy on some sites.
  11. I have a customer who kept getting his ifor's stolen from his yard, the police advised getting his new one painted which he did in a nice loud green and his last one was never stolen, apparently it's less likely to be stolen because it stands out.

I couldn't get a strengthened already galvanised 130 chassis from the usual suppliers, it appears none of them do them in either 110 or 130, speaking to one of our local landy places the HD chassis is never seen on standard versions including tippers, so I have gone with a standard one. Be carefull if you go down the new galv chassis route as the one made by richards although made from thicker plate are not type approved (don't know if that has changed now), the ones from marsland are made by GKN who supply chassis to land rover, so there is no type approval issue. I would imagine if you want a HD chassis it will have to come from land rover.

The heavy duty chassis was available as an option and was usually specked by utility companies, it involved 2 or 3mm plates being welded down the entire chassis, but was a rust trap as water gets between the 2 plates and rusts away nicely, hence my 130 rebuild VOSA have said they can not issue a new plate the plate is for me to get sorted but they check that the alterations have been made.

I am converting my 110 hicap to 3500kg as soon as my 130 is finished, it's also going on a 130 galv chassis. you need to put bump stop extenders on the front axle and put helper springs in the rear coils, you already have the salisbury axle and that is pretty much all that needs doing. The problem comes with getting a new plate stamped, there are loads of plates available on the net but land rover has a special stamp for 2 of the characters on the plate, also it's stamped from the back so the letters stand up on the front, and atm I am struggling to find a plate the right size to replace the one on the brake servo. I am currently trying to persuade land rover to stamp a new plate which I understand they can do but are reluctant to do so. Axle weights for the 130 are GVW 3500kg, GTW 7000kg, front axle 1580kg and rear axle 2200kg but should be the same or the 110. I called into Vosa at Ipswich to discuss the uprate and they said they would be happy with it and just get a plate made by someone else, but I would rather have one that looks official. Insurance wise I discussed it with NFU yesterday and they are happy with both the chassis length change and the weight uprate so long as they can have a copy of the MOT certificate.

I forgot to add that the chassis on the ranger and especially the later ones is made from toffee, my older one flexed but nothing like the new one , it notices a lot when you tow with them you can see the chassis flexing between the buck and the cab, it's one of the reasons I am going back to a land rover.
  16. I have just had a price of £600-£800 to do my landy chassis cab, but that is a complete colour change and isn't just for a straight blow over.

As already said the rangers of a certain year (appears to be tdci up to the newer shape) are terrible for towing, way to high ratios in the box, although apart from that they ain't a bad truck, that said my 02 plate ranger was a much nicer truck to work with especially when towing. I wouldn't buy another one of them, they are cheaper for a reason imo.
  18. Good reliable trucks, the ride is a bit iffy when fully loaded around corners, but they could get stuck on a tarmac road, I wouldn't want another one.

I can sort of see the thinking behind it Locally one of the big recycling firms/transfer stations is shipping wood chip from skip and other waste to sweden or finland (one of those can't remember which) for thier biomass stations, which to me seems completely stupid. Chimneys can be fitted with scrubbers that trap the contaminants, i'm sure if it can be burnt in other countries it can be burnt here.
  20. And there was me thinking you couldn't do anything to a ranger to make it any worse.
  21. What pto HP does it need now to power it and what pto speed ? Running off the front pulley is never a wise idea, it's ok for small stuff like auxiliary pumps and such imo. I saw the remains of someone doing a similar thing to an irrigation pump last year, that was meant to be pto powered except they ran off the flywheel with a reversing gearbox, luckily no one was killed.
