  1. cant make this one as it clashes with a previous engagement, and its a bit special
  2. the law, as written down, is as "If you passed your car driving test between 1 January 1997 and 18 January 2013, you can: drive a car or van up to 3,500kg MAM towing a trailer of up to 750kg MAM tow a trailer over 750kg MAM as long as the combined MAM of the trailer and towing vehicle is no more than 3,500kg" MAM, is to be taken as the maximum gross weight, as I said before you cannot be prosecuted for NOT commiting an offense, irrespective of what plod or DVSA might think.....if it isn't written down in black and white on an actual act or statute......it dose'nt exist....
  3. you CANNOT be prosecuted for a possible offence, only an ACTUAL one, otherwisw every vehicle driver in the UK would be charged with speeding as there vehicle was capable of exceeding the posted speed limit......same as the plate on an hgv trailer, shows what is the maximum it can carry, not what it actually IS carrying.......plod and DVSA will try and bullshit you, ask for a supervisor and proof in black and white on an official DoT document
  4. get it into your brains, there is NO MORE NPTC AWARDS, the new qualifications are CITY AND GUILDS, none of the old numbers still apply, and most of the level 2 and some of the level 3 awards have both an independant assessor oran integrated assessor option, the last digit in the award code signifies this, it makes absolutly no difference to the award.......just get it of your heads for calling things NPTC CS NO.s....they dont exsist any more
  5. 4.65m works out at 15.25ft, going to be an awfully awfully big bar for that........

    Knife

lovely razor edge, but will it hold it for more than 30seconds in use, it's striking that happy balance between razor and usable thats the real trick, and being able to touch it up quickly whilst in use
  7. as has been said, the longer run increases the resistance in the cable leading to a voltage drop, the motor and capacitor have been designed to work at 220ish volts, getting less than this will cause the motor to work harder, possibly never quite getting up to full speed, this will in turn put a greater load on the cap, causing it to heat up, swell internally, and eventually fail. the best solution is as short a cable as possible, or at least an extension made with 4mm cable, and change the plugs to blue 16A ones. Running on long thin cables will keep killing the caps, but will eventually kill the motor as well due to the heat build up in the windings eventually melting the varnish insulation
  8. f**k that, only time Ive seen sheep move that fast was when someone with a welsh accent was present..............lol
  9. with it having the pippy figuring in it, I would tend to go with the higher figure J, maybe split the difference on a haggle buyer, but a nice piece of timber
  10. you have used it for a"few months", how often do you check/rotate your bar, or check drive links, obviously forgoten about things like that
  11. if your using them comercially, a record of training is reqd, doesnt actually state what record, but advises, for private use.......knock yourself out, no requirments at all
  12. A: they are NOT licences, they are competency certs and B: there is no legal requirmet for any certs, only advisory guidence,(get out clause for H&S)
  13. if you care to read the H&S guidlines, you may dispense with the wearing of certain PPE if the tempratures may lead to the onset of heat exhaustion. Its always your call, remember they are guidlines, not you must rules.
  14. surprise surprise, the very day the final pages of the 9/11 report are released, there is an event that catches the world medias attention...........
  15. shepach do a direct copy of the tormek system, available from screwfix for £219, and all the fancy tormek jigs fit it
  16. its not only coloureds shot by police, its anybody, highest death rate for police shootings anywhere
  17. aye, left set, neutral, no set, right set, found this works best for me, nice clean cut, and once you get into the way of it, quick to do a band
  18. 30 25 20, horizontal, 10 off horizontal, every option has pros and cons, like a stihl chain or an oregon chain or a carlton chain, find one setting that you like, your saw likes and stick to it, there is no perfect answer
  19. little tickle with a file every fill up, and chain change at lunch if you want is fine, as for safety, get yourself at least a cs30(or new equivalent) and never work alone, a first aid course for both folk is money well spent(the one course you never want to need to use) treat the large saws with respect, never complaicency, and they'll be good to you, try to be clever,or stupid, and they're like a big dog, vicious when they bite........cut safe
  20. barton77, have a good search on you tube, I ended up making my own setting tool, do my own now with no problems, a couple of push clamps, 2 dial gauges, some angle iron, flat plate, and a welder
  21. the sharpener sold by woodland mills is the grindlux 4000 made by Markusson AB, very easy to use and set up,I havent had any problems with mine, plus it runs on 12v DC, so for me is ideal
  22. clamped onto the bed of the M7
  23. city and guilds are now the recognised training body
  24. 2 lengths of thick walled scaffie, and 2 good slings, never had any problems
  25. if you have any friends who are into knifemaking, your old cutting chains make excellent blades and the damascus pattern is amazing, but you need a knowledge of firewelding and forging
