  1. a sling is a sling is a sling, as long as your slings are properly manufactured, labled, and carry an swl tag, find the cheapest supplier you can, screwfix and toolstation are hard to beat, and as slings used for pulling timber get a really hard time, there cheap enough to throw away if in any doubt
  2. if its agri registred, its not allowed on the motorway
  3. agrimog

    Oops

now you can say you'r a real logosol user, welcome to the club
  4. are you running it on an ext lead, check the voltage at the motor end, you know the crack, low voltage=higher amps= higher load on motor, etc, and the cap takes the brunt of it, a very common problem
  5. yes the millis made in china, but its a canadian company, they distrubute worldwide, and we now have a uk contact, both the hm126 and the HM130 are cracking pieces of kit, you would not go wrong with any of them, backup from the company is great, tech advice, wonderfull,(how many companies will give you a drawing for a trailer because they know you can probably build it cheaper than they could supply) and the rest of there kit is starting to make the big players look again at some of there prices. lookat woodmizer, now marketing the timbrey T100 as there own sothey can get in on this small mill market. Do your research carefully, try and get a look at as many types as possible, even hands on if possible and let your own findings guide your purchase, (remember to consider the cost of ALL the consumables in your costings, not just bands, and how available they are)
  6. by playing the councils game you help perpepuate the myth of there authourity, as long as you have complied with the legal requirment you are good to go, councils need to remember they are public servants, there to facilitate the elected members carrying out our wishes, not gloryfying there own importance
  7. further to the standards of education, and those who are suposedly the "clever" ones, I am having to re-write a report on a roundwood timber construction because my calculations are too difficult for a university educated structural engineer, he is unable to transpose my formulas and cant get his head round how a whole non machined log can be stronger than a piece of machined timber. these are the people signing off on new structures, what chance have we got
  8. all my risk assesments are done on site prior to starting work, to many variables to do them any other way, even the weather affects the outcome of some decissions
  9. a landowner with some of that thing that seems to be in short supply these days........common sense and ability, good on the guy
  10. being involved from time to time with an orginisation that trains younsters in various outdoor jobs, striming, spraying timber felling, planting, etc, and takes them to certification, it is astounding to find some of them who have problems with basic numercy and writing skills, these days it seems all they are bothered about in schools are the exam pass figures and goverment quotas, if you cant do it your cast aside and ignored
  11. cant make this one as it clashes with a previous engagement, and its a bit special
  12. the law, as written down, is as "If you passed your car driving test between 1 January 1997 and 18 January 2013, you can: drive a car or van up to 3,500kg MAM towing a trailer of up to 750kg MAM tow a trailer over 750kg MAM as long as the combined MAM of the trailer and towing vehicle is no more than 3,500kg" MAM, is to be taken as the maximum gross weight, as I said before you cannot be prosecuted for NOT commiting an offense, irrespective of what plod or DVSA might think.....if it isn't written down in black and white on an actual act or statute......it dose'nt exist....
  13. you CANNOT be prosecuted for a possible offence, only an ACTUAL one, otherwisw every vehicle driver in the UK would be charged with speeding as there vehicle was capable of exceeding the posted speed limit......same as the plate on an hgv trailer, shows what is the maximum it can carry, not what it actually IS carrying.......plod and DVSA will try and bullshit you, ask for a supervisor and proof in black and white on an official DoT document
  14. get it into your brains, there is NO MORE NPTC AWARDS, the new qualifications are CITY AND GUILDS, none of the old numbers still apply, and most of the level 2 and some of the level 3 awards have both an independant assessor oran integrated assessor option, the last digit in the award code signifies this, it makes absolutly no difference to the award.......just get it of your heads for calling things NPTC CS NO.s....they dont exsist any more
  15. 4.65m works out at 15.25ft, going to be an awfully awfully big bar for that........
  16. agrimog

    Knife

lovely razor edge, but will it hold it for more than 30seconds in use, it's striking that happy balance between razor and usable thats the real trick, and being able to touch it up quickly whilst in use
  17. as has been said, the longer run increases the resistance in the cable leading to a voltage drop, the motor and capacitor have been designed to work at 220ish volts, getting less than this will cause the motor to work harder, possibly never quite getting up to full speed, this will in turn put a greater load on the cap, causing it to heat up, swell internally, and eventually fail. the best solution is as short a cable as possible, or at least an extension made with 4mm cable, and change the plugs to blue 16A ones. Running on long thin cables will keep killing the caps, but will eventually kill the motor as well due to the heat build up in the windings eventually melting the varnish insulation
  18. f**k that, only time Ive seen sheep move that fast was when someone with a welsh accent was present..............lol
  19. with it having the pippy figuring in it, I would tend to go with the higher figure J, maybe split the difference on a haggle buyer, but a nice piece of timber
  20. you have used it for a"few months", how often do you check/rotate your bar, or check drive links, obviously forgoten about things like that
  21. if your using them comercially, a record of training is reqd, doesnt actually state what record, but advises, for private use.......knock yourself out, no requirments at all
  22. A: they are NOT licences, they are competency certs and B: there is no legal requirmet for any certs, only advisory guidence,(get out clause for H&S)
  23. if you care to read the H&S guidlines, you may dispense with the wearing of certain PPE if the tempratures may lead to the onset of heat exhaustion. Its always your call, remember they are guidlines, not you must rules.
  24. surprise surprise, the very day the final pages of the 9/11 report are released, there is an event that catches the world medias attention...........
  25. shepach do a direct copy of the tormek system, available from screwfix for £219, and all the fancy tormek jigs fit it
