  1. funny thing is I have no interest in a mog whatsoever, to me old mogs just seem like such a huge money pit.
  2. That's verry nearly it. the closest I've ever seen.
  3. what do you reckon that weighs?
  4. how easy is it to mount a pto on a 90? is this possible on any other pickups?
  5. Scraggs - what's that crane on the trailer on your picture?
  6. exactly! I think it was seeing a 90 with a basket on it that sparked the thought process. Yeah a folding & telescopic crane would be ideal but looked on palfinger website to get an idea of unit weights to see what we could get away with, but no info like that available, plenty on reach etc. but no individual weight of units.
  7. I have had an idea floating about in the back of my mind for a while now. The idea is to mount a hiab style crane on to the back of a 4x4 pickup, hilux, navara, l200, landy etc. this vehicle would have the rear bed stripped off and be used as a dedicated crane unit only. This is the closest thing I can find, but not quite. I would want the crane to be bigger ideally with a reach of 5-6m min. The questions I have at the moment are: a) is this even feasible? b) how big a crane can we mount thinking about vehicle payload wise including stabilisers and associated plumbing etc? - would we get away with just 2 stabiliser legs or would it need 4? c) how stable would it be in use? d) what obvious things have I not thought about yet? Has this been done before? if not, why?
  8. check the wee grey computer on the side, the speed should read around 12000 +. If it reads any less, like 600 or so then the big flywheel type thing is drifting off the spindle, perhaps need new taper lock. easy to fix. a quick temporary fix is to readjust the sensor closer to the wheel
  9. in house training is perfectly acceptable, as long as it is set up and done properly with appropriate records kept etc.
  10. we had a Slovak guy working with us. he was keen and would ask a lot of questions. he asked one of the guys "what kind of tree is this?" guy replied "its an Elm, init?". from that moment on the Slovak referred to every similar tree as an Elminit. we never corrected him.
  11. Bump : there would be timber free for uplift also.
  12. god, this remnds me of the time I had to walk for miles over plough / stubble fields to fetch my old man because i got his Suzuki stuck (I must have been around 13-14) he raged for the whole walk back to the vehicle then simply slipped it into 4wd and pulled away leaving me in the field to walk back to where we were working, lesson learned and plenty of time to think about it.
  13. We are looking for a contractor with their own tractor timber trailer set up located within or near the Angus Dundee area to help us out on jobs moving and stacking timber. Please PM me to discuss: [email protected]

    Competition...

Be honest with your clients and do a first class job, you will soon stand out from the rest. I dont know how many "tree surgeons" are around my area, they pop up come and go, some stay around but I only know of maybe 2 out of the lot I would recommend as being good.
  15. whats the best way to get the old shaft out the wedge?
  16. If your looking to do it yourself, I cant recommend Akro's machines enough. I hire from a few companies but in my experience no one looks after their machines better than them. always flawless. I hired from another company recently and the machine hadn't even been washed from the last hire and was missing teeth , so time wasted before I even arrived onsite. luckily I checked.
  17. Well, if it's down the road £80. If it's in Newcastle £1800.
  18. Does any one have one of these for sale, I've called round the dealers and there seems to be none left in the country and the importer does not seem to know the date for next shipment. perhaps you have one you don't use sat on the shelf?? must be the 5000 version. Cheers Brett
  19. I'm reading through this with dread thinking of the one I have to do, but we can fell and chip to site.
  20. I think we all come into this at some point, but I remember back to when I first started out and with not a clue. me and my mate would happily have chugged away for a week at 750. we had no/little overheads, borrowed equipment and keen as mustard just to do the job especially the opportunity to work on a big tree!. we really had no clue what we were worth. sometimes I miss those days, but not often.
