  5. get stuck in hullsmillfarm! last night i ended up in the shed with a few sticks, hammer, wedge and axe seems to work ok but now i appreciate how a froe will work and also that a large chisel seems to be no replacement for a drawknife has anyone done anything with laburnum, i split a stick into about 6 peices and think it might make something interesting, the colours are really nice
  6. cheers mate, excellent, I've got a 8' long plank of burred elm I milled out a couple of years ago, I've been wanting to make it into a table, when I seen your gates I decided that how I want to do the legs etc.. Defo interested in the tools, maybe some pictures - the names mean nothing to me yet

  8. after looking at cleft gates in another thread I'm keen to give it a go but not sure where to start. I amuse it goes along the lines of - take one stem, welly in wedges. But it cant be that simple?
  9. i did 2 last week also, bark had split, no sap, not even euc smell
  10. keep an eye out for the hitch catching on the top krab when you sit into your harness, i find that more than 4 turns becomes too tight and is a hassle
  11. dam strait, the hitch climber only allows you to work the prussik / whatever one handed

I'm a freelance climber, I turn up on site/yard with my own climbing kit, saw and fuel. at the moment I'm on 6 days a week, £120.00 p/d + diesel if you want me to travel out with my local area. at the moment i have about 4 regular clients that fight for days plus guys who use me from time to time, i pick who gets priority. this year at some point it's going up to £140 - £160. also fit in my own jobs when I can and that's bonus money pays tax, holidays etc.
  13. 4+ years experience, fit, good climber, own kit own transport etc. based in Dundee, willing to travel within reason (unless you want to put up board) Mail me for more info.
