  1. So are you saying the mill wont work with a 36" bar? so what is the max bar length that will work, or what is the optimum length for the 395 to work an alaskan mill?
  2. As above, what is the best size bar to work the mill on a 395xp, is 36" considered to be to large to work well?
  3. i had a look at this just now, i think you may be over estimating the size of the areas in question, but good idea
  4. I think it would hold very limited 'wildlife' value, at least no more than any other small urban strip of trees. mmmm...... since its a conservation area, is there possibility of council taking it on?
  5. I have a client who's father was a property developer, the client has just recently discovered that he has inhereted 2 small strips of woodland that were not sold off by his father with the houses. Each strip contains aprox. 30-40 mature trees, Beech, Turkey Oak, Grey Pop etc, etc. and are within the bounds of a conservation area. We have just completed a survey for him which has not highlighted any major issues. The client lives miles away from the area and see's no value in these areas and see's them purely as a liability. He has aked for a price to clear fell theses areas, which i know he is never going to get permission to do and i am currently trying to convince him to change his veiw. The question is; does anyone know about donating woodland to charitable organisations / wildlife trusts / comunity councils??? hope this make sense? Brett
  6. seen somthing like this, guy had about 6 guys doing diferent things in a mature Beech, he was walking round the base with a microphone explaining to the crowd what each person was doing every now and then they would demonstrate a rescue, was quite well done actually, all vehicles and kit parked up round the tree, and a banner hanning from the tree.

    goin bats??

bloody bats! what good are they anyway??? (dont get me started on birds nests)
  8. Aye, you are leading, but you can lead on a sport route which has a pre determined direction, when you lead on trad (placing own protection on way) you are "free" to go where you chose, climbing without ropes is soloing. some route in the past were done using aid, then better climbers came along and "freed" them, not using aid but climbing and placing pro. then better climbers came along and "free soloed" them. Anyway its just a word and no one really cares.
  9. I'd like to clear somthing up here, - I'm an avid rock climber have been for some time, Free Climbing is climbing with a rope, pulling it with you as you go, fixing protection as you go, you are free to climb in whichever direction you like, the other end being held by a belayer. What you all talk of as free climbing is actually Soloing, as in by yourself, no back up, you fail you fall. Thank you for yer time on this matter
  10. there is nothing wrong with taking precautions, we all do, and must, but bikers wear back protection because they know at some point they will take an impact, tree workers should be working on the basis that they never put themselves in this position, if one of my staf turned up with a spine protector on because of what might happen, i would be asking some serious questions about that person.
  11. i would recomend you go for a job in some other field.
  12. and i'm sure its "oh-20"?
  13. side strop, saw, retreval ball,
  14. a dad of my mate paid £7000.00 per acre 2 years ago in Fife,
  15. If you have to go with hourly rate inc disposal, give your hourly rate +per ton disposal, ie; £26+vat per ton or whatever
  16. I got the medium isc pulley for £85+vat, bloody bargin if you ask me! I really would'nt want to use a cheaper one as my main pulley
  17. if you've got your own kit, its worth a visit, if you need to hire can be an expensive day. But about the only solid ice in scotland worth climbing this season.
  18. Not all people posing to be 'tree surgeons' know how to prune a tree. (verified by me, today, after attempting to sort out some idiots attempt)
  19. ? what do you mean ? is there something i'm missing here?
  20. Oh....... can you get a nipple to screw into the hole???
  21. Eh........aye, thats kinda the point, at the moment i have to buy them cause i cant figure out another way to get grease in the hole, cause i'm dumb. but there has to be another way, i mean, what, £12 for a wee tube of grease is just plain robery, granted cheaper than a new head. but i've got a box of grease gun tubes in the shed and it anoys me.
  22. On the adjustable head hedgecutter attachments there are the two grease points. take out the screw, insert sthils stupid wee grease tube and squeze. Is there an attachment for a grease gun or simmilar, or does anyone do it another way, I hate buying those tubes and as a result one of my heads disintegrated inside. I kinda want to save the others and the replacement from the same fate, a bit expensive like. Any ideas??
