  1. Sorry guys but typical arb crew cs31 only , first of all the traffic on the road should of been stopped, you dont need a saw that big to take a tree down of that size ?, at least 5 guys on site in hi viz, and why didnt the guy on the blower hold the wedges while the other guy hit them in ????, one man on saw putting his own wedges in, and guy on wedges and the guy on blower should of been banksmen stopping the traffic, the cut dont look that clever at all, it dont look that good at all a bit cowboy, ish and the guy with green hat on who was on the saw whats all that about at the end, was he knackered with lugging that big saw about or was he pushing something out ????
  2. no pop on this site all sitka DF and a few scotts pine all larch has gone but there is some fantastic big and i mean big mature oaks and beech big straight 3.5-4.5 diameter and approx 40-60ft poles been there for a couple of hundred years or more i would say,
  3. Thanks Mark and yes sitka but not that old really for size of tree, theres 2 more you can see in photo behind this one all simulare size and site was planted in 1957 by Bryant & May ? does that name ring any bells ? MATCHES
  4. yes got some big beech edge trees to fell in febuary and about 6 of them are 5ft+ diameter at the bottom,
  5. love them old logging films theres another one in BC guy stood on his spikes tacking tops of the big redwoods with a axe about 200 ft, the tops are bigger than most trees in the UK,
  6. i will put you right on this one, some answers are nearly there but not quite , the cut in the centre of the hinge is called a heart cut and i cant believe no one has said that, the whole idea of the cut is it allows you to fell large trees with smaller saws than needed, tree was just over 4ft across saw used stihl ms461 with 20" bar so tree diameter more than twice the bar length, so take the middle out the tree first and the bore in on one side and then sweep round putting wedges in as you go round ,and it all so allows me to have one side of the hinge bigger than the other side and this would be used in a situation where a tree have a lot more weight on one side ehan the other and i would have a bigger hinge on the side with least weight on to compensate the pull that would be created by the excess weight on oppositt side, dont know if you can zoom in on photo but one side of the hinge is about 3" and the other is about 4.5" hope this explaines it ?,
  7. yes thats the answer Lab, got one here that is on a course of tablets bit of bread cheese etc .its gone in a split second and looking for the next one,
  8. Well thank you kind sir, it had to be right J as i had Tilhills northern harvesting manager as a banks man at on end watching and Tilhills northern forestry manager as a banks man watching at the other end so no f--k ups on this one or the other 3 i did not like me dog shit cuts on some small birch and ash last wk,
  9. yep all the time,,,NO,,, had a shit time last week on some small birch but aint felled any small trees for a while either all wind blown or big standing spruce, If your man put the back cut below the gob cut on his accesment that would be an instant NPTC fail so how did he get a ticket, ???.
  10. A Donkey and cart must be looming ? must addmitt its crossed my mind once or twice,,,
  11. did a heavy reduction today ? logs cut 6 x 2.5 O/S, 4 x 3.7mtr sawlog and 5 x 3mtr chip + top, tree was 1.24 mtr across at the bottom so pretty big for UK,
  12. NO, looked at all this myself recently dont know about VOSA checks every 3 month but tacho, operators liecence and MOT yes, www.gov and your head will be up your arse,
  13. i will do 10 delivered for £199
  14. stihl expert, vented on the top, good ear protection, good view through the fine mesh visor had several helmets in the past and this is the best one so fare on the second one now ,
  15. i think i would be looking at the hinges on the cab, we have had a hot summer and lubrication seems to dry up/disappear then we get it wet for a while and corrosion sets in, our log trailer we norrmally grease once a week this summer every other day and then it took several more pumps than normall, on your cabstar there should be a grease point on the hinges WD first get it moving then grease as you should be doing, if that dont work your back to square one, we had a ford cargo years ago and in summer the cab seemed harder to lift and the above was the problem, hope this helps you out,
  16. most motor factor supplies ie the ones that go to garages with spare parts in small vans stock 1,8 mtr lengths of exhaust pipe in various diameters for repairs, had a few in the past and only about £10 a length would that not do your job ?
  17. You say you cant rely on subcontractor/cash in hand, i work with several arb crews along with my own work, 3 of them i get 2-3 wk notice off and occasionally less but one guy who proberbaly wants me the most i do the least work with, reason why he has this nasty habbit of ringing me and asking what you doing tomorrow tusday and wednesday so i just say working then he asks if i can alter things to accomadate him answer is no, then i ask him how long has he known about this job and it generally 2-3 wk so i have asked him and told him why cant he give me more than 24 hrs notice if he has known for a couple of wks so basically i have told him if he cant plan 2 wk in addvance and give me 2 wk notice not to ring me,the other 3 crews i have had to cancell one day in what 5 years due to a funeral , and yes NPTC training for chipper saw hedge cutter pole saw etc and all PPE will have to be provided plus employee liabilaty along with other things, personally i would wait till after this brexit deal goes through (if it ever does) as if some thing happens thats not forcast to happen and we go in to another reccession it may cost you quite a bit to get rid of some one i would mudell on for now till the future looks a bit clearer,
  18. hi where abouts in preston are you ? and yes could deliver 10 in one go
  19. how many you after ? have some just cages no tank to dispose of some are only used once and not that far from you garstang area,
  20. thats a very fair comment that, i dont like puting pics on net with machines in the background for the same reason ,
  21. i dont think cutting big spruce windblown with a saw with 25" bar on for 6 months helps and my next job is a load of tosh as well some big narly lodgepole edge trees that are nearly as wide at the bottom as they are tall so big saw again " great "
  22. No good me putting my CV in after todays performance felled about 7-8 birch and spruce today along with cutting windblown, felling cuts, a 3 year old could of done better but bear in mind i have been cutting big windblown for about last 6 months , only cut that was ok was a spruce 22-24" dia rest where a right dogs dinner i think i had better book on a cs 31 training course again ?
  23. when was the last time you lifted it to do oil water check etc ?
  24. snowing at Bleasdale this morn only that fine powdery stuff but it was there. and fxxxxxx cold in that wind this morn,,
  25. when you say you will proberbly put bigger wheels and tyres be very carefull as you just cant put biger wheels on either back or front they have to be paired up to keep the rolling radius other wise you screw the diffs up when in 4wd, i went through all this about 6 yrs ago when i bought my Kubota and decided to leave well alone,
