  1. my trailers and trucks wired as they are for the simple reason i got pissed off with people borrowing trailers and not returning them and when i wanted it i had to go and get it, so wired it a bit different so its all to cock on other cars/vans/trucks if i did need to tow with something else it would take me 60 seconds to split plug and swap 2 wires over,
  2. Dont know if these would live with the high standards of hinges on this thread,? ? Last one is nothing to do with me i just went and cut tree up when they had trashed all there saws the tree was across a farm road,
  3. yes you could mine is on brake lights i think but both my trucks and trailers are wired as i want them, lights wont work on any other car/van/truck hence it stops people asking can i borrow your trailer,,,
  4. you put both brake lights in to one to free up a spare terminal in plug and then wire that in to reverse lamps, got totally pissed off with hazzard lighs fog lights and brake light trick no where near sufficent for what i needed so fitted a 9 LED light wired in to reverse lights works a treat and you can see what your doing very well, 2 holes to drill and a bit of wiring about an hour to fit,
  5. big area west yorks so could you name a town village to give me a better idea of location,
  6. Who can kill the other first i would say ?? i might be wrong tho,
  7. letting the client sell it is proberbly the best rout for you, but its a timber you dont see for sale very often and i would think would be a easy sell, ?,
  8. Oh yes its worth money and i would say good money but your biggest problem is moving it, you would have to quarter saw it down length to get it in to managable lumps, i would get some proper dimensions and photos and addvertise it in as many places as you can and i am sure you will have a bidding battle for it,
  9. i was going to ask how many sweaty socks can you get in that trailer with cage sides on ???????
  10. and what you loading the trailer with ?, with it
  11. kubota u20 definatly a big no from me not big enough, we have had a kubota 5 tonner on a job this year and a hitatchi 2.9 tonne both with fixed geared rock grabs on, and as the hitatchie is ok and we have moved some biggish logs about with it, its no where near the machine as the 5 tonne kubota both machines have the same grab on and do make things easier like moving brash about and if there is a stump in the way just ripp it out, and when your loading timber you wont be loading it with crane on forwarder for long if you have digger and grab on site as with digger it takes a lot less time to load, and just to be curiouse how many lengths of timber you putting on forwarder if you can load in 3 mins or less it cant be many, first photo 5 tonne kuota 2nd 2.9 tonne hitatchie 3rd the grab and 4th 2.5 mtr O/S 740mm diameter moved with hitatchie but very carefully the amount of times i have had that on one track is unreal as compared to the bigger kubota, and a sound word of advise is if you can hire one in DO it as if it wont do your job you can all ways send it back just go as big as you can and steel tracks better than rubber in a forest enviroment.
  12. he is a good lad to get on with, he trys hard , he is reliable, but a bit slow on the up take not with one or two things but all, he is very willing to do any thing you give him to do no matter where it is or what it is, but £60 a day is about all he is worth, but its like he says if i only work 2 days a wk i am twice as better off as being on job seekers,
  13. i fully understand the waiting for groundie and as i aint climbed for a living but done a lot of roofing in years gone by i know where your comming from as you only need to be 15-20ft up and all protection from buildings has gone, and groundies when rigging down you should not really waiting for them ? 2 arb crews i work with now and then could not be any more different to what they are one crew climber up tree lad on lowering gear is the co owner and things move fairly quickly climber is not waiting much and the other crew well everything seems to take a life time like you cant start chipper till we have a big heap and we have been working round it for an hour and the main groundie has to be told everything but thats what you get for £60 a day,
  14. SORRY lads proberbly get slated for this, but if your cold in the arb & forestry buisness your not doing enough ? to much standing about and you will go cold dont seem to suffer my self much, but keep myself going only problem i have is when in shed splitting logs my feet get cold but thats with not moving about much, photos below is of one lad who works with me not a lot of clothing on and as you can see not the warmest of days but i cant remember any one moaning about being cold, more than likely felt colder on way home in truck than out there working,
  15. putting anything on wet is no good to anyone, boots are about the hardest item i find to get dry for the next day, my boots have just felt a bit damp on the inside this last week resulting in cold feet on the odd day, so second pair of boots have been dug out to day and will alternate them now on a daily basis through the rest of winter. Saw pants next worst to dry but have a second pair of them as well, hands never really have a problem but all ways 4 o 5 pair of gloves in pick up
  16. that video was of great interest and some good information on there, and i did not know you could buy the spores to kick start the process ,
  17. Hi all can any one shed any light on weather beech ash & sycamore will still take spalting on if stored in 8/10 ft lengths inside a agri building, or does it need to be out side in the weather, i dont want a bit of light spalting ,i want some deep heavy lined spalting, its something i dont know much about but have had it in some beech and ash of late that was fantastic looking wood but it was only smallish diameter firewood and looking at stacking some beech ash and sycamore from a job after christmas, many thanks
  18. Anothere here for the 462 i know one lad with one who is a avide husky fan, and all he can say is what a saw, get one you wont be dissapointed , i run a old ported 460 on a 20" and a newish 461 on a 25" both seem good saws the 362 i dont know about and can see that being discontinued the new 261s seem a decent nippy little saw, and another for 2 saws in the woods one for felling then smaller saw for snedding out seems to work ok for me next saw will be 462 as i priced one up last wk and it was cheaper than a 461 ? which was going to be the original purchase as i thought dealers would be wanting shut and give a bit more discount ,
  19. Lancashire has some very badly managed woodlands, but when you approach the land owner the only answer you get is ,it ll be right leave it alone, just done one job about 80% windblown the differance on the financial figuars between what has come out today and what would of come out 3/4 years when most of timber was standing and could of gone to a mill when it was green is about 18k and would of took alot less time,
  20. the sap wood where the mould is when fresh felled will be a higher moisture content than the heart wood and even tho KILN dryed it is still higher on the outside but sub 20%, i would not of thought it would of grown the mould on at 18% i have had it on larch and scotts pine but never seen it on any hardwood before,
  21. did you split that log with the green mould growing on it and do a moisyure test on it ? i bet moisture was above 30% ?
  22. its not unreliable at all just likes its fuel when pulling a bit of weight, 1 is 2.5ltr and the other 3,2ltr but weight about the same so shogun will pull better,
  23. my mitsibishi l200 might just pull the skin of my nannas rice pudding and when towing a ifor 10ft tipping trailer loaded with log i nearlly need a diesel tanker running along side as it can get rid of it quickly,
  24. 1st things first is the pump a vane/gear pump or a piston pump ? 2 different pumps with 2 different working pressures, check working pressure on chipper and then check pressure on your selected winch, being a tracked chipper it is most likley to be the higher pressure piston pump but it may all so have a gear pump on the end of the piston pump allowing 2 different working pressures on same machine ,
  25. some mills will buy pop saw logs that you would get a better price for as compared to chip wood at £56 per tonne, no abundance of timber any where in the UK otherwise we would not be importing it from Scandinavia and Canada,
