  1. some very good points pointed out there and i know what its like to work with people with no common sense or who are not to be trusted while working in close proximitty of each other, a few years ago we where felling infected larch and some very small blocks like 20/30/40/50 trees while in one of these small blocks the lad i was with cut through the hinge only leaving a small triangle at one side hence tree went 90 degrees as to where it should of gone and hit me luckily it was just the brash, another 2 ft and it would of been me, this guy would work his nuts off but was far from safe, put him in a stand of trees and the saw would never stop but when it came to cs32 trees we used to take bets on how crap the cut would be and how far away it would land as compared to where it was supposed to land.
  2. a timber wolf 150 wheeled chipper will have a higher ground pressure that a 13 tonne digger has,
  3. there was a goverment add on tv a few years ago about driving at speed through road works on the motor way with a sign with a young boy on it saying, my daddy used to work here, i fully get your point as that add made me think,
  4. down to upbringing and associated traits,,, good quote that but very true , started driving tractors when i was 8 gathering small bail hay at my grandads uncles and several other farms then as things progressed we used to cart silage for a agri contractor, accidents had one since 82 but had a few offs when i was 18,19,20 when i thought i was Jimmy Mccrae in my opel manta ,but always kept it right end up, only damage i can remember was i smashed a headlight one night and another night i ripped both spot lights off the front bumper (road was not wide enough for length of car) on a fence post but i lern,t a,lot about driving and handling a car in them days would love to have another go at that in a manta but today i couldnt afford the petrol we used to burn it off at a alarming rate back then but at 82p per gallon you could ,
  5. i have one about 12 month old and i bought one in july from your kneck of the woods of a lad down henthorne that had had about 10 ltrs through it and i flipped it, kicking myself now that i should of hung on to it but buissnes plans change and now need a couple more decent saws for some big beech that we have to fell and some storm damaged sycamore we need to clear just out side your back door, i dont think i would buy another saw off ebay as thats where i get rid of all my older stuff that dont look like its done much but it has, cheers for that,
  6. Hi all got some quotes today for some new saws was looking for another stihl 461 as i thought i may get it a bit cheaper as they are no longer made, how wrong i was 461 was £48 more than the 462 bloke at dealers said he had sold more 461,s since the launch of the 462 than he had 462,s but 462,s are now starting to move a bit faster now people are hereing more about them, any one on here using a 462 on a daily basis in forestry that could share there thoughts on one with me, i tend not to listen to what the dealers are telling me about performance and reliabilaty as all there trying to do is make it look as if its the best saw ever, i would value a view by some on the ground using one tho, many thanks,
  7. mine was back in 1982 when all driving test inspectors wore a trilby and smoked a pipe while testing you, test center had red and cream lino tiles on the floor and a vending machine that dished out coffee you could,nt drink fo 2p a cup, both my daughters have both past there driving tests of late and one was telling me about it and it makes mine look like a walk in the park,
  8. passed my driving test 3rd time 1st fail was 4 days after my 17th bday 2nd one was just after a massive storm in morcambe and ended up behind a skip full of sand with no cones or signs there and 3rd time was 3 days after 2nd on a cancellation hence wheres that skip at ,,,
  9. deluded i am not, but may be going insane, and when your driving reaches the top what happens then ? not saying that mine is at the top, but when it comes to driving i may not be at the top but i do know that i am a long way of the bottom, and what have i said that i need one day on a course for ? if you would take me for a days course i would welcome that openly and if all went well i would recomend recomend recomend you nationwide as i do with several other trainers and ascessors ,
  10. sorry mate no re test or refresher needed on the driving front by a long way for me i drive fare to many miles and hours both on and off road in quite a few different types of vehicle,s but i know a lot of people who would benifit from some driver training BUT i must addmitt today i was stumped when i was asked to pull a drilling rig out that the driver had nearly buried. with a quite new john deer tractor about 280hp when i first jumped in the cab i thought F = = k me i need a degree to drive this buttons leavers switches and lights every where but after several minuets with alarms and lights flashing every where i finally worked it out and we towed the drilling rig out (31 tonne) and that made that tractor cough a bit,
  11. if your cutting trees in peoples gardens where the trees are generally full of nails and washing lines, the ready made Rotatech loops offer good value for money, i have just ordered (expecting del today) 17 chains for various saws from 14"-25" for a shitty old windblown job no nails but plenty of grit/soil on timber £124+VAT if i was buying stihl or oregon 5 chains would cost me that, buy a few and try em,
  12. who said any thing about passing on bad habits ??? because you or i wont and no one should be passing any thing on bad habits, been driving 37 yrs and never had to or will need to go for a re test unless the goverment introduce something ?, as with saws been using them now on a commercial basis for 38yrs did,nt have the need for a chainsaw ticket untill about 7 yrs ago went on a 5 day course and got told to go home on second day and come back on sat for my assecment, but befor this been cutting large trees and severing windblown for years, in my book expieriance counts for alot and as some one has said some people who have tickets should not really have them, i have had young lads come working with us expecting to fell 3 or 4 trees aday not 23 or 24 , one lad came felled 9 cs31 size trees in the day lad on other side of stand 57 big differance, and another one came had cs31 & 32 said he had loads of expperiance of felling big trees put him in a stand of spruce trees 15-25" looked like he was shitting him self, couldnt fell a tree to save his life that guy i think he got 5 out of seven befor dinner hung up, hence never seen him since but how do they get a ticket in the first place i personally think the basic standards are set to low.most of my work is sorting windblown out and for the guys on here who do the same i think will agree with what i am about to say and that is sorting windblown is totally different to felling standing trees and in my oppinion its chuck the rule book away on this subject and do what your expeirance tells you as every tree in a windblown stand reacts so much different than the last one, been cutting windblown today and the when other lad went at 5 i stayed and forwarded all timber out ready for clean start in the morning,
  13. pretty sure refreshing your windblown should do all tickets below, if it doesent i will be pissed off, as it will have to be 2 refreshers one for felling and one for windblown, but as we know there is more to cutting windblown than meets the eye, i will have to look in to this as i think i am up about march, ish,
  14. but not now a days. its some smart arse kid who got a ticket a few years ago did a bit of cutting got wet a few times then got a job sat on his arse in a office then went and did a training course and thats it £300 + a day,
  15. Yep agree with it, its just to line some one elses pocket, i for one will be coming up for a refresher soon and only thing i can think of is doing a pole saw ticket ,as got all others, i dont think i would pass a driving test again first time as way to many bad habbits now and its the same with saws, if i just did the refresher course i would have to really think of what i was doing, so for some one half my age with very little expierance compared to myself to be telling me where i am going wrong dont seem right, should be me passing my expierance on to the younger generations,
  16. i dont think your 181 would pull that length of chain ? proberbly enough metal in that 60" bar to make a couple of 181,s
  17. big jump from a 181 fartbox to that ,,, could you not just bought a bigger bar like that one for your 181 ????
  18. this is that farmer under cover from another post, who has just upgraded his saw from a 180 to a 880 ??????
  19. impressive range for lr22 that and that sniper shot is bloody impressive, about 3 mths ago i was flicking through tv channels and came across a program about snipers and there training and it was very impressive at what they where doing, 30 seconds to fire 5 x 50 cal rounds at a target at 1500 mtrs all bullets through the same hole hence the hole got to about an inch in diameter,, i thought that was not bad at that range and in the time given to compleat the task,, very impressive,, and my tea went cold watching it,
  20. Hi i was with this guy yesterday and i mentioned it to him, its a dont know if i should sell it or keep it situation, he all so has a ifor tipper that he has been on about selling for about 2 years now as he only has one tractor left for shows
  21. hi, i will be seeing Dick before christmas i hope, need him to do some digger ascessments for me and a couple of lads on saws who work with me
  22. whats the crane rated at J ? would be good if you could upload some vids of it working, i was talking to Dick Bradshaw the other day and he was on about your machine he said machine was pretty niftey and as the operator gained more experiance on it it would be a good package,
  23. Hi does it have to be 09 onwards ? i no of a 06 plate 3ltr tipper that is in near mint condition with only 34k on the clock its an old guy who has used it for transporting a grey fergie to vintage shows been dry stored since 08 wax oiled every year and serviced every 12 mth never had a tow bar on it so never really done any work,
  24. thats exactley what i thought, the way he ran away from the tree says a lot,,,,,,
  25. the guy in question stands there waving traffic then when things start to go wrong he goes and gets a blower and starts it, then waves a few cars on then disapears out of shot, but the point i am making is why 2 guys to drop a tree of that size ?(why not have 3) the guy on the wedges along with the blower guy should of stoped the traffic for a few minuets, i for one would not want any one banging wedges in on a tree i was felling, as if it went wrong you only have yourself to blaim i bet them 2 where arguing about whos fault it was that the saw got crushed
