  1. Lancashire has some very badly managed woodlands, but when you approach the land owner the only answer you get is ,it ll be right leave it alone, just done one job about 80% windblown the differance on the financial figuars between what has come out today and what would of come out 3/4 years when most of timber was standing and could of gone to a mill when it was green is about 18k and would of took alot less time,
  2. the sap wood where the mould is when fresh felled will be a higher moisture content than the heart wood and even tho KILN dryed it is still higher on the outside but sub 20%, i would not of thought it would of grown the mould on at 18% i have had it on larch and scotts pine but never seen it on any hardwood before,
  3. did you split that log with the green mould growing on it and do a moisyure test on it ? i bet moisture was above 30% ?
  4. its not unreliable at all just likes its fuel when pulling a bit of weight, 1 is 2.5ltr and the other 3,2ltr but weight about the same so shogun will pull better,
  5. my mitsibishi l200 might just pull the skin of my nannas rice pudding and when towing a ifor 10ft tipping trailer loaded with log i nearlly need a diesel tanker running along side as it can get rid of it quickly,
  6. 1st things first is the pump a vane/gear pump or a piston pump ? 2 different pumps with 2 different working pressures, check working pressure on chipper and then check pressure on your selected winch, being a tracked chipper it is most likley to be the higher pressure piston pump but it may all so have a gear pump on the end of the piston pump allowing 2 different working pressures on same machine ,
  7. some mills will buy pop saw logs that you would get a better price for as compared to chip wood at £56 per tonne, no abundance of timber any where in the UK otherwise we would not be importing it from Scandinavia and Canada,
  8. if they are Nordman which most are today they last a long time once cut, some trees will of been cut in late october?early november and left palletted up awaiting collection.
  9. yes duracell the best by far , today they will run a kidds toy all day for about 2 days, god knows how long in 10 years.? i will just get some ear plugs,
  10. Hi height of bed is 27" on 12" wheels, and the alloy floor yes i would agree it would not stand rings being slung in to it every day, as one lad i know with one has 2 £40 a day idiots chucking rings in to it and i am sure they run a book on who can make the bigest dent or split in the alloy floor its 3 yr old and floor is F - - - - d, some people dont like the new version why i dont know they say build quality is down as compared to the older version, mine is the new version 2014 had it 3 years and no issues at all its out nearly every day and it runs loaded so i wouldnt have an issue buying another one, and they hold there value as well,
  11. just sold a iveco pick up cheap to get rid of it 210k on clock ran as sweet as a nut pulled like a train and body and chasis all good just needed space ,
  12. the perfect truck has not been made yet, may be one day, but not in my time i will have to watch all you younger lads from up above or below ?
  13. split that green log and put a moisture meter on the sapp wood that is going green i would say that is still piss wet through and not dried out ?
  14. where you based at ?.
  15. out of some ones garden ? , or plantation grown,?,
  16. metal could of only been 2-3 inches in to the tree and the staining from the metal will sweat through the timber over time, even only a couple of nails banged in to tree will show a staining after a few years and the longer its left the further the staining will travel.
  17. cheap that, your 3 year old spruce should of been sold by the load ,i dont know what the supplies to the firewood guys are like at your side of the country but over here they are non exsistanant as chip lads buying every thing, some big and i mean big 4-6ft dia rough beech and oak sold at road side £60 tonne and one guy hauling seasoned ash beech & syc from northhampton £92 tonne, crazy"
  18. average price for s/w road side today chip/firewood £56 tonne fresh felled in the northwest, if you think you can get it for £35 a tonne go for it as that is cheap and if its been down 12 months you will never get a 25 tonne load if you paid £50 a tonne it would still be cheap as you would have a full wagon load but not full weight, wagon below full to top of pins but only 19.8 tonne at £1250 plus haulage a load, which equates to approx £72 tonne ,cut it split it sell it all in same day so no waiting to get your money back ,
  19. yes norway fine for christmas trees and back then i think that was all there was may be a bit of Noble fir about but not much and you would be hand cutting then, my grandad used to do same take the tops home a couple of wk before christmas and sell from his small holding,
  20. on a site tomorrow felling edge trees be hind a harvester and he will take 4-500 trees down tomorrow and all tops just get cut in half and put in to brash matt for machine to drive on, when you look at the state of a machine harvesting site, you have a job just to walk across it yet alone drag tops off for christmas trees, if you was to do this, i would say that you had just been let out from some where, and most of trees now a days on large harvesting sites are stitka spruce that dont make good christmas trees norway better by far,
  21. so you would just leave the bottom then ?, i think what is being asked is the top ok to use ,which in normal forestry practice would just be a wast product after saw logs fencing taken out of tree, so why not use it for a christmas tree i do just dot to get a good one,
  22. your right there Khriss bought 15 Rotatech chains last week for this job as i knew there would be half a roll of stock fence in each tree,, been there many a time,,,
  23. its not yours, it Billy,s from farm, been watching me for a few days and thought he would give it go ? if it was mine i would be proud of that,,,
  24. on the back of that Kubota at each corner 1 9 LED 27watt & 1 16 LED 48watt it lights the whole wood up nearly when forwarding out at night and just put 2 16 LED 48watt on the front and there ample, much better than the original head lights. that are like a brass button up a cats arse, them 16 LED lights work out about £7 or 8 each some been on about 5 yrs now ok odd LED gone but i am saving up to get some more to replace them but when they will get fitted, i dont know as time is the big issue at the moment,
  25. if you where only nearer i would give you a chance with a view to getting you your first saw ticket but your 80 mile away ,
