  1. the 45 degree limit is to prevent cold (45) water being pumped into the boiler/stove which would cause condensation and the early demise of the boiler. In many systems there is a loop which will heat up first by convection, (sometimes pumped) , the low stat then lets cool water into the loop, but prevents it from dropping below 45. There may be some issue with the design of your system, or you may need to give it more time to reach steady temperatures.
  2. probably is if it was blown over in the recent heavy breezes, beggars cant be choosers
  3. likewise and any ideas on access arrangements?
  4. yes but it was the most amusing thing Ive seen all morning, and makes me look relatively sensible:biggrin:
  5. I had a grab lorry the other day, 8 wheeler, probably six tonnes of wood grabbed up an tipped at mine. £150
  6. I agree, not that I could put up any scientific argument for leaving things be, it just doesnt seem right to be knobbing great lumps off.
  7. my advice would be to build it twice as big as you think you need, because that will still be too small.
  8. not what I was expecting quite, thanks for posting
  9. I dont know, a technical chart with technical words is a valuable resource for arbtalkers, we should vote to keep it
  10. could we have a picture of one of the berries/fruits cut in half please?
  11. they have a spray now so you dont even have to touch the terminals, and they call it progress
  12. Depending on where you are and the tree species, coppicing may provide a better and easier wood production cycle. Most native hardwood trees will coppice and the new growth is quicker to get away from deer and weeds. Last winter we cut one coup of mostly ash, 5 days cutting and one and a half days to forward down to the yard. I estimate 40 tonnes. That makes delivered in chip look quite attractive, and you have the advantage of being able to take artics so your delivered in price is considerably better than mine. Opinions vary on woodland management! I prefer to see land and woodland producing something useful and if that is coupled with environmental benefits then so much the better. There is a Forestry grant available at the moment which will pay for someone to draw up a management plan for your woodlands, which will at least give you a second opinion on which way to go.
  13. Just been to check, bit of a senior moment, its 75mm, 3-4 yrs old but been kept in a shed and well sheeted against the light, Six packs of four sheets 75 by 2.4 x 1.2
  14. what thickness is that, ive got a load of spare 50mm
  15. could you fax that across to the rabbits who have completely shredded the bark on my apple trees
  16. any ideas on just the empty box, pricewise?
  17. that was 87, did the same sort of thing to many trees but in a less uniform way. Good thread
  18. try this one... irritated tax official " Dont you keep any records" innocent business person "Yes, I keep Elvis and the wife keeps Barry Manilowe"
  19. if it was absolutely vertical, I think you could argue that it was plumb, so possibly there is:001_tongue:
  20. Get your screwdriver in the thermostat and leave a glossy woodburner brochure on the table by the TV, 14-16 degreesC I reckon youd have it in within a month:biggrin:
  21. I suspect that even 30 mm mild steel would succumb to the bending forces involved in log splitting, depending on the Ram size of course and the expected duty cycle. Far better to go for EN24 which is as tough as old boots. EN24T Flat & Round - Delivered Nationwide by West Yorkshire Steel Co Ltd
