  1. yes, no ball required for tree work..
  2. well thats instant dismissal for handling a mouse without the proper footware,
  3. You just have to go to A&E and hang around till you get a sick note. COPD is the horse equivalent, and you can pretty much ruin a horse forever by giving it hay that has mould spores, I was told by a vet doing research at Bristol, that allergic reaction were from moulds formed at high temperatures which caused serious and persistent problems. I imagine chip with leaves in gets up to temperatures as high as dodgy hay. Get the spanners out and fix the tipping gear
  4. Probably not relevant but celery juice is toxic if it is on the skin in sunlight. So if it is a plant, it may be one that usually causes no trouble. Hope you find the culprit.
  5. the rhi is fairly strict about what you can do with the heat, check it out carefully before you proceed.
  6. have you been to Shetland, there are only about three trees on the whole island! If it is genuine, its only had light use
  7. just get the Benny Hill music on there and it will look as if you meant it to be like that!
  8. its been a miserable year for most things that live outdoors, I put blossom on the hawthorn as three weeks late, is it all down to the icelandic volcano??
  9. check with your customer about the length, if you get that wrong the pile is virtually useless
  10. You should worry, I read a thread called climbing wellies, beacuse I live in wellies and though it would be impossible to get up a tree in a pair:blushing:
  11. It is a pity that you cant get 245-T (agent orange) anymore, it would reduce any jungle (including bramble and nettle) leaving grass only
  12. Thanks to everyone for the pointers, I have mulched with bark fairly liberally for the first two years, could go again with the bark as we have a heap of it, but would the addition of FYM be a benefit or the complete opposite? (being a farm we have more FYM than anything else)
  13. Ty , im not sure i can explain this without an open diff case, but if the pinion bearings are out of adjustment the pressures between the gear teeth go through the roof and the teeth, instead of rolling against each other rub as they go round. Might just need setting up properly or a new set of bearings, or if you leave it much longer .....££££
  14. I was half joking, we have a fair amount of ash in the shaws we are coppicing, and if this takes hold there will be a surplus of dead wood, the question is how long it remains useful, standing dead chestnut is good for years but how long will the ash last.
  15. aha! that makes sense ill give it a go
  16. Presumably all the ash trees in the uk arent going to die in the same year, how long will dead standing, ash keep standing?
  17. if it was guaranteed to work I would have a forest of those poles:lol:
  18. We had one in to do our chipping, and all of them have been through the boiler without blocking it up. You can get really uniform chips out of decent sized wood, but as you probably know rings can get the wrong way and produce slithers in any machine. I thought it was a decent bit of kit, are you going to get one and if so where in the country do you operate? Rod
  19. I'm on it when when the sun next shines, thanks for the advice. Rod
  20. So would it be best to prune now, ie during the growing season, or wait till winter and take side branches out, or even leave it for couple of years and then have a go?
  21. thanks for the replys guys, better get another load of bark round them and wait till next year!
  22. If you had the U frame on the back of the tractor,(facing side to side, unlike the ebay one) then fill it up with billets, throw over two chains/wire ropes attached at front to the drawbar and hook onto the back of the U frame, then lift the hydraulics enough to tighten, strap up and your done. does that make any sense?
  23. The nursery thing may be the clue, I just ordered whips, as we usually do, weve put in miles of hedge, so this may turn out to be more hedgy and less woody, but still a lovely colour! Thanks for the help
  24. Paul, thanks for the reassurance, Im hoping that they will grow up in a straight stemmed form, and possibly if I prune them the right way have dense canopy with a shady mown area under. (Trouble is I know zippo about trees)
