1. Thanks Khriss, your machine looks nice and clean in the photo... hope you’re keeping it that way.. cheers
2. Hello all, i’m looking for any help or advice that anybody can offer regarding my Heizohack chipper. I have a Heizohack hm8-400 and in general I’m very happy with it. it was supplied with a 35 x 40mm screen and I later bought a 50 x 50mm screen for it in order to supply a larger chip for a customer. The 50mm screen had the Stop Bars fitted, I was advised to buy the screen with the stop bars in order to reduce the occurrence of long pieces in the chip and the stop bars do seem to be doing their job in that regard. My my problem now is that the machine seems to be producing a very large amount of fines in the chip. On the day when the 50mm screen arrived at the yard I had just chipped a few ton with the 35mm screen, i swapped over the screens and continued chipping and to be honest I couldn’t see any really noticeable difference in the chip size. Maybe I was expecting too much but the average chip size didn’t increase as much as I was hoping. The fines are now causing my biggest customer to complain. I fitted new knives, I have the intake belt running as quick as it can and I’m running the drum at 540rpm but that doesn’t seem to make any difference. now I’m wondering whether the stop bars on the screen might be causing the problem.. might it be the case that the stop bars are slowing down the speed at which the chips are getting through the screen thereby causing them to get another few whacks of a knife ? The timber I’m chipping is spruce with an average diameter of about 6 or 7 inches and it’s between 20 and 25 % moisture content. I’m also wondering if the small diameter, very dry timber is the problem, maybe it’s shattering when the knife hits it rather than being chipped.. Another thing which I need to mention is that I made a blunder a few months ago while I was swapping over the knives, I got distracted by the phone and as a result I forgot to tighten 3 of the knives, when I started chipping the knives came out of their mounts and completely destroyed all the other knives.. maybe the broken knives damaged the anvil while they were being thrown out of the chipper and this is causing the fines.. ? I'm hoping that somebody can offer me some advice on this .. thanks very very much for taking the time to read this.. regards Aodhagan O’Hara
3. Cheers Tom and everybody else who offered advice, much appreciated. I'm going to have a better look at this job later on today, the weather is nice over here today for a change. Thanks all.
4. Hi Tom, that's great information, what you are chipping in the clip is very like what I'll be dealing with aswell. I found the pressure assist setup on AC Price website, mine doesn't have it fitted but after watching your clip I reckon I'll be ok.. Thanks for the advice
5. Thanks for the reply John.. I'm not sure if mine has pressure assist.. What exactly is it ? I've only used mine to chip softwoods to produce chips for fuel. I've just this week bought a 50mm screen to keep my biggest customer happy, he wants bigger chips for his boiler. I'm thinking that the bigger screen might allow the green brash through the machine easier and not block up.. The brash I'll be dealing with will have a lot of green foliage on it and not much timber..
6. Hello all, does anyone out there have any experience of chipping brash with a Heizohack HM8-400 ? I've been offered a site clearance job which would involve a lot of brash from Lawsons Cypress. I'm worried that the brash would clog up my chipper... any help or advice would be appreciated. Tks
7.
Hello everybody, has anyone used a Heizohack HM8-400 on site clearance work ? I've been offered a job to remove Lawsons Cypress, this will produce a huge amount of brash and I'm not sure if my heizohack will be suitable for the brash.. I'm worried that the brash will clog in the machine.. any help would be appreciated. Thanks

9. For some reason I've been afraid to run mine at more than 600.. I Have it about 12 months and have only chipped about 200t in that time but I'm starting a 2nd supply contract on Wednesday this week and that'll take me up to approx 60t per month... after reading this from you lads I'll be running her at 800 for sure.. She's had her settling in time, now it's time to earn her keep.. Many thanks lads
10. that's great Tom, it's great to hear from someone who has ran the chipper at 800.. I was afraid to being honest ! I'm going to have a look at this tractor tomorrow and now I can look at it without worrying about whether it'll drive the chipper or not.. Cheers.
11. Thanks for the reply Tom.. The reason I ask is because there's a 180hp tractor for sale beside me and I'd be interested in it but it's only got a 1000 shaft, it can't be swapped over to a 540.. I've never run my chipper at more than about 600 revs, have you run yours at 800 ? Thanks
12. Hi everybody. I have a Heizohack hm8-400 chipper and I'm very happy with it. It can run up to a max speed of 750rpm but I've only ever ran it at about 580rpm. I'd like to know if anybody has any experience of running one of these chippers on the 1000rpm shaft ? Any advice would be appreciated.. Thanks
13. Hi Jim, Thats great information. I reckon it would suit my job well, the biggest I'd have would be 1m, with the odd bit a bit bigger. The skidsteer is rated at 57 ltrs/min so i'd say it would handle it ok aswell. What sort of money would it set me back and where are you located ? Thanks
14. Hi Jim, thanks for the reply. I am in the Irish Republic, not sure if there are any of them on the island north or south. I will want to split softwood mainly, the odd bit of hardwood. How do you reckon it would perform on fairly green softwood ? would it split or just drill a hole in it ? Thanks
15. Hi, does anyone out there have any experience of LASCO cone splitters ? I want to fit a cone splitter to my skidsteer. The LASCO units look weel made. There are none anywhere near me that I can see working. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks
