  1. If you are paying to tip (I guess thats £30/tonne) then the value of your 27tonnes of chip would be rather more than £10 per tonne so would be economic. Try golf courses/ fishing lakes/ garden centres etc etc they usually will be happy for a pile to use on paths and the like- though I doubt if they'll pay. Landscapers also looking for chip- you do need to do some phoning round though Could be good for business i.e developing contacts
  2. A good tip is that rather than drill the stump- just run the tip of the saw round the cambium inside the bark making a circle on the stump- then pour roundup into this channel- I like the idea of making a cap with a round of wood though- that's one I will use.
  3. forgot about that Does anyone on here keep records- I stopped about 1 month after getting certificated- a right pain Area treated Location Wind speed Date Chemical Concentration aaaaaargh
  4. I drive fast- I was going to say too fast but lets face it the speed limits are a bit ...well you know ... not always appropriate I would rather see variable limits based on weather conditions/ time of day I'm sure this will one day happen Common sense- now where did that go?
  5. Simple scuff up the old plastic covers and spray with car paint
  6. I reckon thats the answer. I can't believe a cut branch falling on a live tree would stay viable long enough to graft- but thats just me
  7. while you're at it Also a fine for those observing that people are posting complaining about pointless threads complaining about pointless posts:001_smile: How do I donate?
  8. I'd echo that If you are doing PAID work then you need a pesticide PA1 PA6 ticket. Include in this storing pesticides- not sure about carrying pesticides though as the delivery man from masstock hasn't got one! In fact he doesn't even have the pesticides locked up- but hey thats another story. I suggest you get the customer to do it:001_rolleyes: welcome to the world of H&S
  9. being self employed doesn't mean you have to work all the hours Get organised and put time aside for friends/family or you may regret it:sneaky2:
  10. just noticed i'm a senior member raffle sponsor 2010- how cool is that:001_tt2:
  11. or logs in a tonne- cut it out wet or dry- it's a saw point
  12. nice photoshopped number plate how much would that be worth?
  13. It was explained to me the best thing to do if someone attacked me with a knife was run and when available pick up a brick or similar- then if they are still chasing turn and hold it up - the point being the attacker could face a brick in the face and hopefully backs off. Never done it though:001_smile:
  14. why can't you use it?- it's got CE certification
  15. forgive me for appearing unknowledgeable but what is blue moon?
  16. Just ordered 10 pairs- skinflint i know but didn't want to pay £6.50 for delivery Hope they are as good as everyone thinks- been too long using protek cheepo builders gloves- time to treat ourselves methinks
  17. It's mine though I was assuming you are close to or in that situation- you know- delegation and all that. Still, you got to work but in other ways. Plus you need a good gang to work with. I don't see it as a skive- in fact I find myself working some evenings or saturday morning just catching up on things especially if I've helped out during the week. It's passing knowledge on and it's surprising sometimes how much you accumulate after a good time on the tools.
  18. sounds like you're experienced enough not to be asking really. It's all about time- If you charge in your head £25 per hour and guestimate 5 hours for lawn then if you can do it in 4 hrs you're quids in - simples Bear in mind if you get a good young un then you will want to think about keeping him through the winter so he doesn't go elsewhere- That is where the business really starts and you've got to maybe take a loss during your quiet spell to keep him employed- Welcome to the world of business:thumbup1:
  19. It's just great being in a position where you can choose which trees you work on and also what weather you work in- see it as a positive Get your danger kicks elsewhere- don't ask me where
  20. Thats not the case 4.30am till 10pm in summer-no way do a poll i guess most tree workers work about 40 hours per week averaged over the year The jobs too hard to work longer- you're more likely to have accidents
  21. I'd be worried as they are rhodies most roots in the surface layers suggest they like oxygen We are always very careful when putting residual herbicides around rhodies- they keel over easily though I've no experience with wild ponticum- would have thought it the same
  22. just offer him £20 per tonne roadside- then you do the work as efficiently as possible and make as much as you can Don't touch this one with his suggested terms Believe me farmers arn't as silly as you think
  23. spot on Even though i have staff who by law have to have statutary breaks- some days we have a quick one others take our time. This isn't a business that is run by the clock- other than that big clock in the sky:001_smile:
