  1. You can't just assume You need to look at circumstances I'm not that familiar with the ins and outs of the wildlife and countryside act what does it actually say? Quoted not assumed? For example- if a tree was dangerous and lives were at risk- should that require you to wait till they have fledged. What about property- does the same apply? What value property?- A house. A car. Another tree?!! Would your insurance company pay out if you knew a tree was dangerous but left it because a tree surgeon said there was an occupied nest? Would you climb the dangerous tree and remove the nest to a place nearby- Can you do this with all bird species? What if your risk assessment said the tree was unclimbable. Should you get in a MEWP?- at what expense?- and for pigeons?!! I'd be interested to know if anyone on here has definitive answers to these questions and not just assumed answers. Now THAT would be a resource:thumbup:
  2. just noticed this thread we used a couple but found that after a while they stopped retracting. It is a good idea and very professional Just think you might want to road test them for a couple of weeks before buying loads
  3. can't you get some filler on that crack:001_tongue:
  4. wood ash Provided it is just wood and not coal and making sure you haven't burned any tanalised wood in there ( as the arsenic apparently accumulates in the ash) is great as a cleaner/ fertiliser (potash)/ slug repellant
  5. BBC News - Grangemouth biomass protesters arrested This subsidised market is distorting the market Profit for big companies at the expense of our taxes- discuss
  6. maybe thats where the 60 comes in I'll check my torque wrench setting tomorrow to make sure:thumbup1:
  7. need to check but I torque them up to 66lbs I remember that being correct but could be wrong. Just to make sure as undertightening could have repercussions as overtightening would. I better check my manual. We're tree guys but if anything ever goes wrong- the'd be repercussions on something like this:blushing:
  8. saw one of these the other day that had failed not much root on the half that went over
  9. I know!! Mechanics is frustrating specially when you've had a hard day/ in a rush/ it's about to rain. I agree it would be great if TW came up with a simpler system but there you are My solution works every time. Give it a go. Still having said that, I'd love TW to get back to us on this. With a reason/upgrade
  10. C'mon lads a bit of mechanics subtlety needed on these If you put torx into extension on a long arm wrench Jamb the flywheel with a bit of wood Then and this is the clever bit as you exert pressure on the wrench keep lightly tapping with a hammer( well get someone else to do this) works a treat Also helps if you clean out the torx with a sharp object first. Also put copper grease on threads of torx bolt before fitting after putting in new blades There you are My simple( well maybe not so simple) solution to a TW problem we've used the same torx bits now for about 20 blade changes
  11. commercial contracts can be good/can be bad all eggs in one basket comes to mind if they keep piling more sites on to you. Also you and your staff have to keep more than one person sweet- there may be a maintenance manager also a general manager plus the odd bod who comes down from head office- you need to wise up quick I do though prefer the feel of working in the commercial sector- a bit more grown up:001_smile:
