  1. did you try Jacksons BTW
  2. Frankly impossible to answer without a face to face interview Regardless There's so many things to take into account including Energy Knowledge ability to keep quiet when the boss is talking to customer about something Not trying to be clever Fitting into a team appearance elocution do you smell? etc etc etc Tickets basically mean little- I've employed climbers who were cr*p even though they had tickets. Chainsaw tickets given out like confettii by colleges to guys who basically don't understand sharpening or respect for the chainsaw. You live and learn
  3. av it out or face the consequences:thumbdown:
  4. Did you PM me by chance

Nothing came through though i got a message to say you had?

  5. Just been quoted £14.95 +VAT if I take 6 cans:thumbdown:
  6. How much would a pallet be delivered on the assumption that we could use 4 pallets a year
  7. If you take off the vat and your tax the price becomes £10 for 5 litres compared to £4.30 for unleaded + about 20pence of oil= £4.50 So... roughly double Is it worth £5.50 to work in a cleaner environment If we use about 25L of 2 stroke a week at the moment- thats £27.50 xtra costs per week from your bottom line. Doesn't sound too bad x 52 not always using so much equals about £1000 per year I'm going to try it and get feedback- the hedge cutter in conifer on a hot day is likely to be the clincher
  8. Robinia is the way to go but not many stock it Try Jacksons fencing in Ashford or Bath- they deliver Nationwide and use Robinia which is then treated like their softwood I think to give it the same colour. It's used in their H section posts (almost certain) but check They are on the web too
  9. The current 'rich' peoples thinking is that a trendy name is for a firm that doesn't last. Solid like your name and you can't go far wrong- just look at a few in the trade Gustharts Jones Honey Bros Barchams I know theres others and very successful ones In the end it's all about commitment to customer service and professionalism and just doggedness. I've known so many round here who have had a catchy name and lasted 5 minutes. Tree monkey is something we use in the trade but think how it will be perceived by your potential customers. Not good eh?
  10. This is so true We have been dropped by sites only to get reoffered the contract years later as they find the 'cheapest' option doesn't give the best service. Leave the site without looking like a sore loser- head held high/ smile on face. The manager will then 'have' to get someone in better than you or look foolish. I know this may not be your preferred option especially if the loss of this site would have serious financial considerations. That's probably your dilemma. BUT- if that is the case you need to work harder at getting more sites rather than resting on your laurels- become active not reactive. BTW- £12 per hour is cheap if you are providing everything!! You could put up your prices and see what happens- I mean put up your prices to everyone- If 90% accept the new rate, then you could afford to loose this site and have more free time. Good luck- let us know how it ends up- but don't blame us- this is just free advice!
  11. buy low sell high
  12. We've all heard of them shortages If it's not fenceposts it's cement or the other day I was told building blocks. It may be true or it may be an excuse. It is a damn fine way of increasing demand for a product though:laugh1:
  13. respect the silky such a little friendly tool Vicious too!!
  14. Just go then he'll get the message
  15. We mainly use kwakasaki easy start- low vibration- last forever- bit pricey but you will prob get discount from dealer. Or boot fair beware:001_smile:
  16. I think the original poster has given up on us. Do they mean magnolia salicifolia? or is it a salix? The problems with common names!!!
  17. I admire your honesty I do though believe there is some benefit to be had from leavin g nests Your customers will definately talk to people about you- especially when asked why the tree surgeons have left the tree looking deformed. It is though a difficult decision when you've travelled 60 miles with 4 blokes to do a job:confused1:
  18. Don't you just hate it when you get a call on the mobile and struggle to answer it only to get sales cr*p. I'm so rude they just get the off button- generally you can spot them a mile off- hope I've not done this to too many genuine customers.
  19. I always put my rear fogs on:thumbup:
  20. You can't just assume You need to look at circumstances I'm not that familiar with the ins and outs of the wildlife and countryside act what does it actually say? Quoted not assumed? For example- if a tree was dangerous and lives were at risk- should that require you to wait till they have fledged. What about property- does the same apply? What value property?- A house. A car. Another tree?!! Would your insurance company pay out if you knew a tree was dangerous but left it because a tree surgeon said there was an occupied nest? Would you climb the dangerous tree and remove the nest to a place nearby- Can you do this with all bird species? What if your risk assessment said the tree was unclimbable. Should you get in a MEWP?- at what expense?- and for pigeons?!! I'd be interested to know if anyone on here has definitive answers to these questions and not just assumed answers. Now THAT would be a resource:thumbup:
  21. just noticed this thread we used a couple but found that after a while they stopped retracting. It is a good idea and very professional Just think you might want to road test them for a couple of weeks before buying loads
  22. can't you get some filler on that crack:001_tongue:
  23. wood ash Provided it is just wood and not coal and making sure you haven't burned any tanalised wood in there ( as the arsenic apparently accumulates in the ash) is great as a cleaner/ fertiliser (potash)/ slug repellant
  24. BBC News - Grangemouth biomass protesters arrested This subsidised market is distorting the market Profit for big companies at the expense of our taxes- discuss
