  3. you're young in 30 years you will see life completely different Just you wait embrace everything and make the most of now
  4. never been checked in 30 years what's the deal?
  5. why would you not put red in your van?
  6. It's a nest Quick- stick it through the chipper (Joke)- just in case I get stick:biggrin:
  7. When they lay into you, you well and truely know it Happened to me once- but thats another story. Best advice I can give is that if you ask for advice don't be offended if the advice you receive is not what you wanted to hear. Thats the way of things on forums. In the real world it's a bit different as you know:001_smile:
  8. we've given it away fro free especially when working a long way from base
  9. I like crappy little £500 domestic jobs In and out in one day Move on to pastures new:001_smile:
  10. Thats so true You need to assess the situation and quote with this in mind. Some customers don't understand the cost of removing waste and are quite happy to have a burn up after you have left. Specially if it saves a bit of money So long as they don't start burning while I am working- can't stand smoke in the air
  11. Well good luck- let us know how you got on I think it's best to work out your minimum cost then up it by a percentage that depends on gut instinct and customer relationship. And obviously the big one- 'how much you need the work' And as someone said earlier- being ballsey:001_smile:
  12. I must remember that line It's cheap but not as good as the good stuff:thumbup1:
  13. Can you get a chipper in without difficulty Do the chippings have to be removed from site Is the wood saleable as logs Do you have customers for this If not can you sell wood anywhere Do you have a yard for storage of logs How far from the site are you based I'm trying my best to help but I think you can see now there isn't not a simple answer
  14. I've never asked for money up front, only on completion. Only once had to call in solicitors- he paid up instantly after receiving the letter I do agree though- with private customers they think they can sit on your invoice too long IMO. Not much you can do If you make a scene they won't recommend you in future so defeats any benefit. Often they are not about when you finish the job either so posting an invoice seems the best solution. You just need enough liquidity to ride the cash flow storms.
  15. Seems crazy to ask prices on here We all charge different rates depending on a number of factors Can you not just judge how long it will take and what kit you need and then price in a bit on top for profit.
  16. It gives them a good excuse to go to america to get an obama That guy must have air con cool knowing this. And a great deal of trust in the security services. Somehow I don't think the americans had any alternative- could they just let osama carry on?
  17. People often say they want the freedom of self employment Well You're swapping one boss (who knows you and probably makes allowances when you have a bad day) for a new boss every day who will expect a good job every time. Plus they will phone late at night/ Sundays in fact anytime they think to do so. I've even had 4 in the morning. If you are ill, will you have cover- this applies to contract work especially. Actually there are many negatives that you should think about but For me after the first 10 years things got easier - now it's a breeze! So in essence- it's a mountain to climb Sorry- you asked what you need to become self employed My answer Luck
  18. whichever!! still operate 2 tiers depending on volume of work former though obviously don't and can't really go down so low
  19. i reckon theres a few on here who fit the bill A salesman in another business who sold high would be applauded We're not that business- surely
  20. The honey fungus thing isn't a misdiagnosis It's a disease he knows alot of folk have heard of and some know if left unchecked it will often work through a garden. So he uses it to scare people into having work done that is unnecessary. Basic cowboy tactics. Wouldn't be surprised if he didn't have some old bootlaces in his pocket for emergencies
  21. what is wrong with people? still banging on about bad stuff the monarchy did years ago they don't now, well not really bad stuff - times have changed Change with the times Look how in America people go mad for the new president only to change their views over the next 4-8 years so much that he's a yesterdays man- How much pressure on the Queen and the Royal Family to still be basically... loved after 60 years- Phenominal(don't know how to spell that word)
