  1. I'm glad this has been resurrected Still no closer to a definitive answer though
  2. You as an employee can ask the taxman for an increase in your tax code to take into account laundry. That is a fact. It's not much though but it all adds up. I think a lot of the heresay on tax matters is a case of whether you 'get away' with it. For instance- can you claim for osteopathy- lets face it- you can't work with a bad back so it benefits the taxman if you get fixed quick. Any tax inspectors on hear who can put us right on these issues?
  3. I agree you did the right thing given these circumstances. I would definately put a disclaimer in though as you have not been present or responsible for their treatment before they came to you. I suspect you have:thumbup1: Just the idea of delaying the whole operation while the hay is harvested is like another world- this must have (will) add so much to the total bill! Makes me wonder in how many other gardens Chelsea plants are being transplanted right now- I remember on The Landscape Man program a guy buying a show garden but it didn't transplant to his house well as it was a one off just designed to look good on the day- black water etc. Still- this desire to be associated with chelsea is good for the trade. Work can come from the strangest of places:biggrin:
  4. If you are replanting in 3 weeks, would it have been an option to just keep plants above ground with watering system in place (just as nurseries do)- just a thought
  5. can't complain hats turned up within 3 days all nicely wrapped with the biggest bubble wrap i have seen- makes great machine guns:thumbup:
  6. actually leaves and bark scream 'pear' but fruit- i'm not so sure
  7. The picture with the clothes line looks like hawthorne but the others don't Actually the clothes line picture looks like a completely different garden!! Isn't the crown too dense for apple? Otherwise not sure
  8. Your first comment is untrue I agree though fussy drives the market and price Fussy gives those on hear who provide a superior product an incentive to work hard. Provided 'fussy' can pay for it.
  9. Just did 8 miles walking from kensington down to the river along the embankment up from westminster bridge to St Pancras and that near killed me so best of luck Ends of my toes killing today:001_smile:
  10. If you're just logging you could set up some screens to deflect the noise a bit. Or get one of those noise cancelling machines you hear about in tomorrows world type programs:001_tt2: It's funny but I don't notice chainsaw noise when I'm using one but when someone else is- then it does grate a bit!!
  11. I love this sort of fencing- it just seems to flow- so natural rather than all the standard cut timber featheredge etc. Cutting your own to do the whole job also sounds just the ticket. Did you price it up and take the time taken to make it into account- and did this mean the job worked out cheaper than bought in- or was it just the way you wanted to do it regardless?
  12. here we go:001_smile: make it simpler not more complicated or people will just ignore it is my simple message.
  13. That needs a degree of experience/confidence to do in budget- I'm impressed:thumbup1:
  14. News to me too. Actually though the world health organisation rate salt as more dangerous than roundup don't they? What you're saying though is that it doesn't have a COSHH label as it's a foodstuff- But if used as a poison then technically should you consider it's danger. I don't know about this - just seeing your reaction- maybe this is the 'green' way forward. Certainly customers would feel safer.
  15. To be frank This insistance for tickets in gardening/tree work is admirable as operatives are then feeling like someone cares for their safety and they always learn at least something- we all do however experienced we are- even if it is just the benefit of newer less polluting gear. BUT The COST Has got to be controlled- already you lose a days work and there is a cost to your firm for that- then travelling- then the course - then the assessment It's got to a point where the only profitable business is in running courses. Someone somewhere has got to get a grip on this. I remember spending 3 days doing cs30/31 and we had to learn such a load of cr*p that had no relevance to safety- To an experienced hand the course is doable in one day if it is condensed down to practical ability without all the naming of chain linkages etc that have been brought in to pad out the course. Pesticide course- 3 days much of the time spent going through EU legislation and just general chat. Cost £400 plus 3 days lost work. This could be done in one day. Then you see the local council spraying roundup on mini tractors - guys obviously contractors in green cotton boiler suits- no gloves- no masks/glasses- no signs- It's a joke:thumbdown: Rant over
  16. seems barrier tape is no longer enough need solid barriers
  17. i would say stick with it but self employment isnt for everyone if you came to it by default then it is likely you are not that type if you always wanted it then you will make a go of it regardless
  18. A bit heavy !! I know some very nice arses odviously:thumbup:
  19. been asked once for saw tickets- long long time ago
  20. As I understand it you can call yourself an accountant even without qualifications- same as tree surgeon. So watch out- the ones who claim they can save you a fortune in tax are often the ones the taxman investigates. Not only that but it is you who appoints your accountant and it is you who will swing:biggrin:
  21. Tigers are going to find this tough No Manu= no fisticuffs 3pm be prepared.........
