  1. Yeh Blokes getting into weddings:confused1:
  2. It's true you charge what you want- at least you ask for what you want The customer has two choices BUT This guy seems to be preying on the elderly who tend to be more trusting and also more easily frightened and also sometimes having mental issues so it's totally below the belt in my eyes. I suspect he also knocks on the doors of the recently bereaved.
  3. I lost all Cried a bit Swore a lot Ran around a lot looking for someone to hurt Got savvy Got bigger locks Basically stopped being naive(thinking the world was nice) Got stuck in determined that the b......s wouldn't get me down I still like the world though... just with a different understanding of how things work Just don't give them any opportunity
  4. when you're busy- charge more when you're quiet- charge less Works every time
  5. Out of self interest-having had many items stolen over the years How did you know it was your kit? Have you discovered some special marking system that you could share with us?
  6. That is now my understanding- if you make the waste, you don't transport it for someone else and so are exempt. That's 15 years of licence money wasted But everywhere I go(tips and from officials) I get asked for my ticket so I pay for an easy life. Total -------- (insert word of your choice)
  7. just because you are a skilled climber doesn't mean you can run a business. I've known many. Almost all really great blokes. Almost all don't want to be businessmen- they just want to be free.....
  8. If I was lending to a business i'd take a number of factors into account -level of profitability - how much profit you are making before debt servicing costs and whether this level is enough to service the debt- that is profit after you have taken a wage(have a realistic figure in mind say £30k p.a.) and paid all other bills -how illness would affect liquidity/profitability of the business- one man bands often at the mercy of this -what are the firms assets and would their sale cover the debt -eggs in one basket- how much of the firms turnover and profit come from one or two major contracts and whether these are 'safe' contracts -adaptability- whether the firm can adapt it's services in the event of a downturn in a particular market - how young the business is- ie what sort of track record has it got and has the owner got a good track record in business and a good credit report - history of success in that business sector In short- no simple answer and two years ago there was a different answer- we all know what happened then:thumbdown:
  9. Copper has come up quite a few times now- is it that poisonous to trees- If so would a solution of copper sulphate(frozen in ice cubes) be enough to kill a tree? Obviously I'm not going to do it but out of interest does anyone know if that would work- Knowledge is power and all that.
  10. watch it saying you do that sort of stuff on here the forum police will do hissy fits- they're whiter than white:001_tt2:
  11. And your approach to conflict resolution is to openly slate a member for asking a question on an open forum. Fantastic At least I just consider these things. Am I really in a minority. The only time we have killed a tree on purpose is the poplar issue as I've found that if you just fell them then they sucker for yards around.
  12. This may be the answer though it won't prevent damage to her foundations- a newer house admittedly but not modern massive foundations
  13. Why do you say myths We have been asked in the past by insurers to stage reduce -Conifers and yews Is this practice now frowned on?
  14. Gut feeling says yes though I'm open to correction
  15. I've got a birch in my garden that has been totemed for about 10 years- redone it twice. No rot yet so thats my experience. In fact strong regrowth The resulting tree is a great anchor for my hammock It throws up fantastic straight regrowth giving dappled shade. Call it art if you want It's just a different looking tree- like a coppice but from 7ft up. Time will tell but no problems yet Oh yes it is pendula so that might have a bearing
  16. easy fellas:001_smile: obviously as I said as a first call we're going to talk to the home owner The issue is that this conifer on clay soils will if left cause subsidence- I've seen it happen to too many houses round here. I'm looking for a fallback just in case the neighbour digs her heels in and says No! Agreed it would be criminal damage and I'm not keen to go down this route but I'd rather risk that than all the upheaval that subsidence causes. I'll tell her I'm a banker:thumbup:
  17. thats a good idea:thumbup: lets hope she goes along with it Her house is on the market so she may not care- I'm considering this action because you never know who will move in
  18. spot on what a complete con this is fortunately we've never been asked to produce one which makes it even more of a con if you think about it
  19. maybe kill all the young people and save time:001_tt2:
  20. This is not a problem quite yet I have a neighbour from a sideways on house-so we don't treat them as a 'proper' neighbour. She has a leylandii growing about 4 metres from the corner of our house which has minimal foundations-about 6ins of concrete about 6 ins down. On clay soil. It's been pruned in the past but is now rocketing away. We are going to ask her if we can either remove it or cut it back. My thoughts were that if she doesn't want this- Is there anyway I can kill it without making it obvious it has been sprayed or otherwise We do sometimes kill trees before removing them namely poplar by drilling them low down and putting in neat roundup which is quite effective- I can't do this as it's in her garden. Any thoughts would be welcome
  21. In my experience birch roots arn't too bad Sounds like there may be a problem with windage if exposed Maybe cut the birch back to a totem pole every say 5 years- they respond quite well to this although it appears a bit severe. This will restrict the roots
