  1. quite a few organisations i deal with don't have contracts for tree work but do tend to use preferred contractors- i.e. someone who over time has provided the quality of work they require at the right price and even given the best advice/ had the fewest complaints. It's not a contract as such but in many ways it works like one
  2. trouble is 357xpg is £450 +VAT claim tax makes it effectively £360 new plus it's not running well so is £280 a good price? Maybe if you can't reclaim VAT!
  3. similar thing happened to me
  4. others beat me to it The fact is if she was expecting compensation then it's likely she is a certain sort of person- compensation culture vulture You'd have cleaned her car then she would have said you damaged the paintwork then you're in trouble as you have effectively admitted liability Sorry if that sounds cynical but I've been there and it hurts
  5. Not always so though I would like it to be
  6. so if she drove through a puddle and got dirt on her car- then she would expect compensation from the council (us) stupid cow hope you told her to sling her hook but these days of customer first makes me think you bit on your tongue and apologised for any inconvenience gave her a fiver to go through ARC car wash Dear Mr Cameron - bring in some anti customer legislation:001_tt2:
  7. some good stuff up your prices a bit for individual touch can't like as not on FB
  8. happy prosperous new decade to all
  9. ppe is for employees and the self employed everyone else if unpaid for the work can do what the hell they like Thats the law Don't know how this applies to volunteers though- I guess the organisation using them have a duty of care so h&s laws must apply. Does anyone on here use a chainsaw at home- for firewooding- without trousers/boots/head protection. I know I feel vulnerable without but sometimes lazy wins.
  10. Round ones look best in a nice stack in the hearth Oh to have the perfect log (matron....) Best wood ever is the wood begged by a neighbour on the job you are on for a drink-well big drink. Sometimes we'll even round it up for them!
  11. always change the plug its my mantra start it in the dark and look for arcing from ht thats me done though it does sound like fuel filters/air cleaner
  12. what about the eyeball and huge tits:001_rolleyes:
  13. still short everyone clapped when we landed They now see the eucalyptus as invasive and are trying to control them- plenty still there though- mighty fine specimens too
  14. The trouble is what is considered good practice sometimes changes:001_rolleyes:
  15. then they get to the age when you feel they need you as an example of what they can achieve in life- tricky one Bit of balance- believe me they won't remember much of what has happened at their age when they reach 16
  16. come on we've all done that perfect crown reduction only for the customer to come out and request a bit more here, a bit more there- oh ' I wanted more light' etc etc It's just disheartening- but we have to try and educate though they still think you're cheating on them. If you didn't want a nice tree why didn't you just ask me to cut it down. So Not always the tree surgeons fault though I admit there are a few motorway maintenance fellas out there
  17. always been horticulture -33 years treework is a bonus:thumbup1: don't see myself doing anything else
  18. spot on- I see so many guys fail in business though they were good practitioners of their trade. You still got to put in a full days work and then some to make a business successful. Too many opt for the long lie ins /early finishes/ days off to do whatever. Having said that I suspect anyone starting out these days would have a tough time whatever they did.
  19. i thought green mech was designed originally to deal with flax waste- do they not deal with cordyline
  20. sycamores fine was it someone on here who mentioned that all wood dried to the same moisture content has the same calorific value of heat pound for pound
  21. 2010 been great 2011 - not so sure- VAT plus worry about job cuts will play a big part
  22. levarda do norte check it out on you tube- but expect it to be worse than the video
  23. Walk the Laverdas Some of them are mighty vertiginous especially with all the landslides last year. Laverda do nort was one i remember-Best way is taxi to the start then taxi back from the end. Hire cars OK but don't expect one without dents etc in it- they don't seem to check when you return them though. Brilliant place though- just walk as much as you can - there is lorisilva forest -think thats how you spell it- No real beaches
