  1. this step cut idea seems to me to be a reason to utilise extra equipment to justify a high price to the customer. The 'Oh I couldn't do that cos I haven't got a bulldozer' For that alone- It's a great idea:biggrin:
  2. did that myself a few years back- bought her a miele Still get reminded though she did vacuum the house twice on Xmas day So How come a wife can buy a hubbie a power tool I just don't get it I just don't
  3. chopping with an axe would be easier and more therapeutic
  4. personally wouldn't touch northern tool ever again they did the dirty on me several years ago delivered a broken heater which we only discovered over 24hrs later as it had been delivered to the farmers barn. They refused point blank to offer a replacement or refund as they said their terms and conditions required us to notify them within 24hrs. Absolutely........... Sorry..... just reminded me of them!
  5. that'll be a lottery grant for a glastonbury thorn centre and car park. Just created about 50 jobs:001_smile:
  6. cumon... put a lid on it
  7. so next time you see a naked tree surgeon rubbing themselves up and down a birch tree- you'll know why:001_tt2:
  8. great photos I haven't had a good bonfire for quite some time but I remember how some on the firm just couldn't get the hang of starting a fire- i.e. loads of petrol etc but no common sense. I used to find a firelighter coupled with a kindling stack worker almost always
  9. very neat very smooth I love innovation in tree work
  10. if there were an industry body they could fund accurate scientific tests to get calories numbers for all wood at say 2 different moisture readings 20% and green. Would be a great source of knowledge. And Finally put to bed the firewood poem:biggrin:
  11. drop it on the shed get client to claim on his house insurance for new shed u put it up
  12. i thought of this but there's so many things you can't do on woodland including 'run a business' so i ruled it out- I'd love to hear from anyone who has managed to get round this one. Trouble with woodland is there's generally a neighbour or a footpath nearby that is used by walkers who would complain if you started messing things up which you would invariably do with a business( hardstanding/structures that are secure/ tracks in and out/ bonfires/ compost heaps/ woodchip heaps)- would be a great place to run a landscape orientated business though
  13. Brian spelt bryan
  14. can't sell by the ton/tonne as dryness is an issue can't sell by cu. m. as airspace is an issue. so sell by 'the load' - everyones happy
  15. proof of the pudding
  16. if you'd just chucked this on loose how far up your side panels would it fill?
  17. so you give 2 different prices wet and dry everytime i've been hesitant over wood because i think customers will not like it i've been unable to sell it now i just big it up- most customers are predudice
  18. loving it latin distinguishes us from the crap cockburianus is a classic who would consider doing this with this from abscind to zylem its all good thats a challenge anyone up for it?
  19. but when the work dries up will have 15 men to pay from what angle do you come from?
  20. too true
  21. by the ton? thats just an excuse to sell wet wood a load is a load and your customers will soon work this out
  22. i'm with you don't rent as landlords are just in it for their own gains you want to develop the land not their pockets
  23. Have a chat with others in your area see what happens with them If you find a boss who is working or paying when unable to then phone him up in the spring and see what he has to offer for next year. Above all, don't have a go at your boss- in my experience you get the boss you deserve. Just don't stick with him/her if you're not happy. If it's a new business then offer to do some phoning round cold for half pay- it's better to be constructive whatever happens. Or maybe offer to get work in for a cut of the profits. Do all this and you'll prove to yourself whether you will maybe make a boss one day.- just remember if you do- treat your staff right
