  1. What about a wee packet of seeds, with a note saying how to grow them etc Many many years ago on a school trip we were all given a wee bag with a handful of scots pine seeds and a bit of paper. I think I may even still have it somewhere (never got round to planting them lol)
  2. I don't like the greens - I don't like wind turbines and pylons. We have too many as it is!
  3. The toolstation price is the best going on the Nightsearcher You can get cheaper rechargeable LED floodlights (£25 ebay) but you get what you pay for
  4. Not quite what you're after but I bought one of these recently and it is pretty impressive! Workstar Li-ion Portable LED Floodlight With Wide (SMT) Angle Rechargeable | Toolstation It charges off mains or 12v. I mounted it on an old halogen site light tripod so it's at a better height.
  5. I liked this - big limb came down from the sycamore and voila, ready split firewood

    Waste of space.

Midges (not that they take up much space anyway!)
  7. Trying to read that advert gives me a headache
  8. How's everyone else in the north of the country been getting on after the winds last night? I was woke up about 3-4am by the carbon monoxide alarm in the lounge, think smoke was being blown back down the chimney! Power was off but luckily I remembered to leave a torch by the bed Took ages to get back to sleep with all the noise outside. At daybreak I noticed our trampoline right outside the cottage window, it normally sits over 60ft away! It was upright, and no damage to the grass etc, looked like someone had just lifted it up and carried it across A few trees down on the estate, lots of big limbs too. One came down and split a small tree completely in half, still standing, I will have to get a photo of that. A mile down the round there is a old shelter belt of scots pines, unfortunately it looks like a war zone, only a couple of acres but 30+ mature and hardy pines on the deck or hung up Power came back on about 3.30pm (not bad going ), just as I was about to go out and start fettling with an old generator. SSE must've been using a helicopter to check the lines as there was one doing some funky circles above!
  9. Eucalyptus is the only tree my log splitter has been unable to do anything with. Fortunately there's not much of it round here! Good luck!!
  10. The oxdale trailer mounted splitter looks good, but the table looks awfully low?
  11. It's a bit like one of these [ame] [/ame]
  12. Looks nice, but will water drain off the roof?
  13. If you can't be bothered with all the stacking, make a ring of mesh or stock fencing, then you can just lob the logs in!
  14. I personally charge £20 an hour (if you're local) which I think is a fair price
  15. Welmac UK Ltd: New equipment in stock
  16. Will cost you 5p a shot up here though
  17. This guy made me wince
  18. Come up here, we've got the snow!
  19. I think it is possible to get some kind of gen that runs off the engine, never actually seen one though. Inverter is the simpler option, I have a 2kw (4kw peak) one in my van, haven't used it in ages though!
  20. Muck truck is handy if it's over a bit of a distance
  21. Saw this advertised on ebay, I'm not really in the market for a new splitter, just like seeing what's out there! 26 Ton Diesel Hydraulic Log Splitter Lombardini Engine Fast Tow Trailer | eBay Looks a good well made bit of kit (not the usual chinese rubbish), even has a jockey wheel and legs so you can use it without being hitched up. Looks pretty sturdy, and works vertically at a good height. The only drawback is the controls are round the corner from the table! Doh!
  22. Saw an ad for this in the paper, a windfarm developer who is wanting to get permission to build 23 turbines on a site in Sutherland, is offering £20 a month off local people's deliveries of logs! You even get to choose the supplier yourself Muirhall Energy - Caplich - Tackling Fuel Poverty Never seen firewood used as bribery before lol!
  23. Is there anyone in your house on benefits, any oaps, kids etc? You may be able to get funding for a stove or insulation etc We both work so don't qualify for naff all in our cold (and rented) stone cottage! The woodburner is the main source of heat. I think I read an open fire is about 10-20% efficient and stoves are 60-85%, so quite a difference!
  24. I had a machine delivered on a pallet to me a month or so back, cost was £35 (+vat of course!), and I doubt the seller was taking a hit on that!

At the black isle show this year a local supplier of kiln dried logs decided to put hundreds/thousands of flyers out in the car park under people's wipers. Not sure if they had permission from the show organisers, doubt it. Unfortunately they used cheap double sided flyers, there was a little rain during the day and half the paper stuck itself to the windscreens! The car park fields were full of people at 5pm trying to scrape the cr@p off. Not the best advert for your business!
