  1. ^Thats what I was just about to say, maybe you could score your initals onto the ends of some of them, or dab a bit of paint on? Btw if you're wanting any signs made up, get in touch cos I could do you a good price
  2. We have an old (older than me) Rayburn Supreme. It does the hot water and 7 radiators, most meals in winter time, and today I was even using it as a makeshift forge to bend steel Usually softwood during the day and coal overnight. I don't keep track of volume, but the logstore at the side of the house usually lasts a week to 2 weeks max. I reckon that must be about 0.6-0.7 m3 of stacked wood
  3. The GB driving hours apply to commercial vehicles below 3500, it's just that you are not required to record them
  4. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3G0GulNP_M]YouTube - Ultimate Towing - Pikey Special LOOK Carefully[/ame] :001_tt2:
  5. Unless you are exempt, you need a tachograph when the gross train weight is over 3500, and have to stick to the EU drivers hours. So a 3.5 ton van towing ANY size trailer for hire & reward needs a tachograph The tachos also need to be calibrated every 2 years Commercial vehicles under 3500 are also subject to GB drivers hours, (so a plain transit van without a trailer being used for business). But you are not required to keep records, and I doubt you'll find anybody who does!
  6. Apparently when reversing you steer as if there no trailer (opposite of reversing with 1 trailer on), never tried it myself though Also I notice you haven't connect up either of the breakaway cables
  7. Chuck the birch on and buy yourself a set of drain rods
  8. I saw this last week, looks cool, but a bit pricey for me! Funnily enough I was thinking last month about modifying an old wheelbarrow into a flatbed, with uprights, to carry logs say 4-5ft long
  9. Is it the one stop shop body, or someone else? The cochbuilders who made it might be able to supply alloy sides to fit, if not you might have to get them fabricated?
  10. I'm personally not fussed about what day of the week it is
  11. Any decent lengths of wood like 3x2, 4x2, beams etc, keep to one side and build something with them, it would be a shame to see them go to waste
  12. I've never been on a sea kayak, but when we were kids we used to take a canoe to a local loch in the summer, I always loved it and last year I dug out the old 12ft college type fibreglass canoe, but I was too fat to fit in it !! So I bought a very basic 2nd hand sit on top type canoe last spring, have taken it to a few lochs, and hope to take it to many more this year! I don't have any of the fancy gear, just my old kayak, an old paddle, a bouyancy aid, waterproofs if it's cold or shorts if it's warm! Loch an Eilean Tiny island on Loch Lomond
  13. Although it shouldn't be burnt, you will probably get some mugs willing to pay you a few quid to take away an estate car full If you were local I would come an have a rake through for any timber for future building projects

    ???

Nice, would make a good advertising tool with a bit of sign writing on the trailer and the bike frame
  15. Mind on the Transit you can get different drive ratios aswell as power outputs (and also have the ecu remapped for more torque!)
  16. The DVLA must've made a mistake on his licence, as he should've got his B+E How to add higher categories to your driving licence (staging and upgrading) : Directgov - Motoring
  17. Although probably not very legal, I reckon you should move anything of value out of the shed that was broken into, and booby trap the place (home alone style), set up some cctv, and wait for them to come back!
  18. There's a company in Newcastle who sometimes advertise a petrol powered 2 way splitter on ebay, if you're wanting to have a look at the design: NEW DUAL ACTION 20 TON PETROL DRIVEN FAST LOG SPLITTER on eBay (end time 24-Jan-11 20:05:04 GMT) (obivously made in china!)
  19. I dunno what your barn looks like, but could you fit mesh windows/grilles/vents above head height? Or just airbricks or something? I've also seen people use pallets standing vertically between piles of split logs, to get air moving right throughout
  20. Bare in mind that if he's gonna let you store and work the wood on site then that could be in your adavntage as you're not paying out on haulage and rent for a yard (and also disposal of sawdust!)
  21. See this PDF for info on the JCB powerpacks http://www.jcb.com/products/lightequipment.pdf A new machine can give up to 20ltr/min and 138 bar I've got a "10 ton" splitter which runs well off a Trojan, there's a vid on another splitter thread of it working

    Splitters

Aye it's pretty good You can change the "polarity" of the lever by swapping the hoses to the powerpack over I hooked them up like that so that if you were to fall on the lever the ram goes up, rather than down onto any bodypart which may be in the way

    Splitters

Thanks for the advice folks If anyone on here is interested, in the end I got a splitter from "Harrows are us" and am running it off a 2nd hand JCB Trojan, here's a wee video I made up a workbench out of pallet wood to sit it on at a nice height [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyOUAgY69f0]YouTube - Vertical hydraulic log splitter[/ame]
