  1. Someone should tell the seller he can do a 2nd chance offer to the next highest bidder!
  2. Still got to stack the logs though! If you had a concrete floor you could use supermarket style cages and just wheel them about without a machine
  3. You could also look at a 4wd dumper truck. not as versatile as a tractor but can be used both on and off the road. Shorter than a tractor with trailer so can turn where there's little space.
  4. Cheers for all the ideas everyone
  5. Hi, just wondering if anyone has any past experience on carrying extra petrol for a strimmer about your person. For when strimming long distances away from your vehicle. I'm thinking some sort of smallish container to carry in a rusksack or similar I looked at the alloy fuel bottles for camping stoves but it's nearly £20 for a 1 litre bottle Many years ago when I was at the council you'd sometimes take an old plastic bottle out the bin, fill with petrol mix and stick it in your pocket, which never seemed ideal!
  6. I thought the mad part was the fact it's made by silverline
  7. Blackcurrant/gooseberry cross = Jostaberry
  8. Try Hills of Devon for the weldmesh Chicken Wire | Welded Mesh | Aviary Mesh | Wire Netting | Thatching Materials | Wheat Reed | Water Reed
  9. Yeh works well but you get covered in cr@p I use a full face clear visor anyway but you'd really need a chinguard too, and overalls/waterproofs
  10. Rather than burying the mesh you can use paving stones, all the way round the outside, this stops them from digging under the fence
  11. Don't know if anyone else uses one, but I saw them advertised online so thought I would give it a bash Airecut – The revolutionary brushcutter blade for serious cutting Got a 300mm one, £18 delivered from Mister Solutions. It cuts well, and does what it says on the tin - lifts the cut material up. The only problem is the operator gets covered head to toe in grass cuttings!
  12. I don't know if he's got a timber trailer but try speaking to Wee Jim, he's 25mile down the road and has a tractor http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/members/wee-jim.html
  13. Well decided on the top of the range tanaka, the tbc600, but after over 2 weeks of it being on order, have been told the supplier can't get it!! So back to the drawing board!
  14. If it's likely to fall on a road then you could let the local roads department know of the danger, and they will send an inspector out. You can usually do it anonymously.
  15. Sharp sand is more gritty and has bigger lumps Paving Expert - AJ McCormack and Son - Aggregates for Paving and Drainage
  16. You want sharp sand for laying slabs on
  17. Have just found out that the top of the range Tanaka (TBC600) has vibration levels of 1.4-1.5 according to the book, that's 47cc, but about £600, ouch.
  18. Seems to be mainly banks, rough areas of grass and bracken etc, very rare for me to use the metal blade on this machine (always 3mm square line) but it does need to have a bit of power The TH43 is the ideal machine it's just I don't think I can take the vibes much longer!
  19. On the hunt for a new strimmer/brush cutter with lower vibrations. Use a Kawasaki th43 most of the time, which is a great tool that has never let me down but finding it's starting to get sore on the hands, especially the right (trigger) hand Want a good machine to get many years of service out of Open to any suggestions, even a Honda with a 4 stroke engine (have never used them before - what are they like?)
  20. Nearly had to dig one last week (reopening) but fortunately they paid and got the 2 council lads in. It had to be done by hand as up a path through a gate and up a steep hill. They did a very neat job, shored up the sides, built up battens round the hole to have something level to stand on and covered it all in the butchers astroturf stuff! Defiantly a skilled job!
  21. Yep it can run a nice long line (with the strandard guard on!). Seems to have gone up in price since last year from I think £350 ex vat to £440 ex vat on the Abbey website
  22. I use a Kawasaki th43 which seems a good all round machine and a Tanaka tbc550dx, which is a beast
  23. What do you expect for Alness!!
  24. I'm after a new set of loppers for general use, has anyone tried the 28" Stein ones? They're about £40 on frjones, the same price as 1 replacement blade for my old bahco ones
  25. Are you ever looking to tip near Inverness or Dingwall? Will pay cash for logs, or could collect May also be able to take woodchip if it's to my advantage
