  1. How come he lives in america but is dressed like he lives on a council estate in manchester?
  2. Best off with an analogue one as otherwise you have to apply for a card, though newer vehicles are supposed to have digital Once it's fitted the only costs on an analogue tacho is a calibration every 2 years (£30/£40), and a fiver for a pack of 100 discs
  3. Well in the end I cut about 70mm off the outer shaft and have used it full whack all day long with no more issues
  4. I take the trailer as far as I can get then handball off. I would happily stack if someone asked in advance, and they were willing to pay for it I once turned up to deliver to a pub and their woodstore was only 10m through a small gateway, seemed pointless to dump it on the ground so close so I got the guy to help and we put it in the shed (not stacked though). There was no barrow so we used the bread crates that were stacked at the back door :laugh1: Infact I'll be back there with more logs on wednesday
  5. I got mine from "harrows-r-us" who trade on ebay, just a cheap one (£450), you can tell it's made on a budget but it does the job for me
  6. What a waste of good food!
  7. The vehicle itself is cheap compared to what insurance now costs
  8. I'd never worked on the machine before it went into the shop Maybe the end of the shaft has sheared off, and thats why it wasn't allowing proper drive, (but the end of it doesnt look like it has been snapped). Or maybe there would normally be another piece of gearing on the end of the shaft that was damaged, but not returned with the strimmer Hmmm think I might take my own strimmer apart to see if I can get any ideas
  9. I hate to say this, but I did some calculatons with the calipers, and "removed" an inch off the end of the main outer shaft, then realised that I had made a mistake and would actually have to remove several more inches for it to actually work, dunno if it would still touch the ground after that lol
  10. I've got a problem with a strimmer/brushcutter at one of the places I work at It was losing drive, you put the throttle full on and the head would spin to an extent, but try cutting something and it would stop, with the engine still going full whack. So obivously a problem in either the clutch or the drive/gearing It was put in to a machinery centre for repaired and they came back and said it was a fault in the gearing but they can no longer get the parts (it's a Komatsu Zenoah), and that they could do a good deal on a new machine! I collected it from their workshop (in pieces) From looking at it, I can't see anything damaged, but the inner shaft (drive shaft) appears to be a few inches too short So with the parts assembled onto the main outer shaft, the drive shaft can only be in one end at a time The drive shaft is a round bar with about an inch of spline at either end :confused1:
  11. If anything spruce is better than hardwoods Sustainable, as most is grown in plantations Easy to light Cheaper Burns with a good heat Splits easy Lifting big rings won't do your back in (as quickly) Gives off wee crackles/pops when burnt, so you have the effect of a fire even in a closed stove
  12. Softwood is good wood All I sell and burn is sitka
  13. lol aye it's a good tune Here's a slightly better video, recorded today [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nuSLDVIDw-s]YouTube - ‪Log splitter for hire Inverness‬‏[/ame]
  14. Nah when I was buying the older ones seem to be £250-£350, but the key is how far away from you it is. I paid £400 for my trojan which has a slightly bigger engine and it came with a breaker gun (yet to find a use for that!) but the hoses are pretty worn
  15. I'm running the same splitter as Matt off a JCB Trojan powerapack Here's a vid of mine, this is from cold and the ram is a bit slow until the machine warms up (dunno if that means it needs a hyd oil change??) You can get through logs at a fair rate with one person lifting them onto the bench and the other splitting [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyOUAgY69f0]YouTube - ‪Vertical hydraulic log splitter‬‏[/ame]
  16. Thats a baragain, there's other companies selling for around £150 m3
  17. Offers over £1k! loch ness monster hedge Other Miscellaneous Goods for Sale glasgow Inverness
  18. Remember that any tyres you fit to your van will have to be commercial rated I got some mud & snow remoulds on the back of my transit, they were about £65 each. Hard to tell how much of a difference they make over "normal" tyres but I did get on well in the snow (made it up hills that cars didn't) and haven't been stuck on wet grass
  19. I wouldn't worry though, I climb on my own timber pile

  24. None of my log customers are interested in buying kindling, but yet the shops/petrol stations seem to sell enough of it
  25. I have cut rhodedendron bushes back to the stump and there was new shoots within a month or two. Would take a fair bit of time for them to re establish as bushes though!
