  1. I'm running the same splitter as Matt off a JCB Trojan powerapack Here's a vid of mine, this is from cold and the ram is a bit slow until the machine warms up (dunno if that means it needs a hyd oil change??) You can get through logs at a fair rate with one person lifting them onto the bench and the other splitting [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyOUAgY69f0]YouTube - ‪Vertical hydraulic log splitter‬‏[/ame]
  2. Thats a baragain, there's other companies selling for around £150 m3
  3. Offers over £1k! loch ness monster hedge Other Miscellaneous Goods for Sale glasgow Inverness
  4. Remember that any tyres you fit to your van will have to be commercial rated I got some mud & snow remoulds on the back of my transit, they were about £65 each. Hard to tell how much of a difference they make over "normal" tyres but I did get on well in the snow (made it up hills that cars didn't) and haven't been stuck on wet grass
  5. I wouldn't worry though, I climb on my own timber pile

Is it just me, or is the chain hanging off the bar towards the end
  8. Have you tried mud/snow tyres on the back axle of the Transit?

  10. None of my log customers are interested in buying kindling, but yet the shops/petrol stations seem to sell enough of it
  11. I have cut rhodedendron bushes back to the stump and there was new shoots within a month or two. Would take a fair bit of time for them to re establish as bushes though!
  12. Seems to work fine? [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQ2FeXbKQS0]YouTube - ‪Motosierra Timbertech 52cc‬‏[/ame]

  14. I heard McDillen chainsaws are better than stihl and husky put together
  15. Another way I've seen is to bore down the middle 4 times to make a sqaure, then bore in from the side, a few inches off the bottom, and remove the long square piece. Then light a small fire in the hole.

    Fuel can

The stihl is easier because it's clear, much easier to use
  17. How much have you got to spend? There's a number of different Japaneese makes who do good strimmers/brush cutters in the 40-45cc range, probably about £200-£250 new. They're well built and reliable. The one I've got is a Daishin I think, with a Kawasaki th43 engine
  18. If anyone is interested, the castle/estate I work on some of the time is having its first of its open days for the year next week It's Castle Leod, which is on the outskirts of Strathpeffer Castle Leod - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia http://www.scotlandmag.com/magazine/issue39/12008687.html It's open Weds 25th to Sun 29th, 2pm-5.30pm Adults £7, kids £4, concessions £6, with money going to the clan Mackenzie charitable trust The castle itself is very picturesque and has a lot of history, but the main interest for me is the grounds which have some amazing specimen trees. There's the spanish chestnut, first recorded planted tree in the country (1550), and a pair of massive wellingtonias, one of which is the biggest in the country. Worth a visit
  19. What is a turning strop and how is it used?
  20. Aye but Rodney, this time next year we'll be millionaires

  22. I've had the rayburn on some nights, have a huge pile of rubbish bits that I would rather get rid of (bark/sawdust), better off heating the water than being left to rot
  23. Also if someone is on your books (rather than self employed) you will need to provide all their ppe, mess facilities, paid holidays, sick pay etc
  24. I would've thought £6-£7 an hour was a fair rate, slightly more if they're self employed
  25. If you live in Scotland you can get up to £200 towards B+E training with the ILA, all the centres are based in the central belt though
