  1. Unless they've changed, the stihl helmets are rubbish, the visors fall apart very quickly. Husky ones are good though Chainsaw wellies are ok, better than nothing
  2. The ram movement isn't going to affect the suspension, but if the log went with a bang then it might rock the trailer slightly. Also if you lift up a big ring and drop it down onto the table the trailer would obivously rock about. The amount of movement would depend on the type and age of suspension. Personally I would fit 2 wind down legs to the rear corners of the trailer chassis so it was rock hard, espicialy if it's unbraked
  3. Has anyone else got a simillar sized stihl, and does it have the hole going down by the exhaust?
  4. Just wondering, owners book says Stihl oil at 50:1, or "other branded 2 stroke engine oils (classification TC) 25:1" So what mix rate should Oregon semi synthetic 2T be at?
  5. I wouldn't think you'd have much luck phoning the council offices. You might be best off stopping and talking to a gang of parkies and see if they will let you have some wood for beer money (but you might find at this time of year, a lot of wood is already spoken for)
  6. The hole by the exhaust seems to meet up with the normal hole for the guide bar (so not into the tank). I just can't figure it out. I tried blocking the hole with a short thick screw, and with the bar off, oil streams out of the hole for the guide bar, as it should. But when you put a bar and chain on, the oil doesnt seem to run along the bar. The bar and oil hole are totally clean, and I even tried a different bar. Also tried blowing out the hole with an air line

    prices.

FSC = FSC UK - Forest Stewardship Council Suprised you have never seen it on cardboard boxes/sawn timber etc
  8. Silverline Fibre Shaft Log Splitting Axe 6lb - Transtools Not fancy, but does the job for me and has taken a good few years of abuse

    prices.

And, of course, the cost of signs saying "warning forest operations"
  10. Yeh I've got the parts diagrams but I just can't see it mentioned anywhere
  11. Is there supposed to be some kind of bung/plug/breather or something in this hole? It seems to go down into the oil tank, and lets out a small drip whilst the saw is running. I have parts diagrams but I can't see it anywhere! Saw is a stihl ms250
  12. It was chains direct (.co.uk)
  13. Here's a fast splitter, looks fun [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=th0aAZPBcM0]YouTube - True air powered log splitter[/ame]
  14. Just noticed this as I was about to sharpen it Only had a few days use aswell
  15. If you could combine it with this turntable, then it might be a bit safer http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/firewood-forum/22652-they-might-something-here.html

    Splitters

I think something road towable would be the best, can make or modify a trailer if needed. Although I have a 4ft wide ramp on my van so might be able to load somehting in there. It will probably be mainly for splitting softwood up to about 2ft round 33bk, any idea on costs?

    Splitters

I'm thinking about a powered splitter. Don't have a tractor or anything to run one off Although a electric one would be cheaper to run (and possibly more reliable?) I think something petrol powered would be more useful I've used a tractor mounted vertical table type splitter before which I liked, some of the petrol ones I've seen for sale look like backache unless you modify them I can weld but don't know anything at all about hydraulics Is it possible to run a splitter normally mounted on a tractor off a hydraulic "power pack" As an example, would this splitter: LS 2 10 Ton Tonne Hydraulic Log Splitter ( Heavy duty) on eBay (end time 23-Dec-10 19:19:31 GMT) Plug straight into and work fine off this engine/pump: VANGUARD 9HP HYDRAULIC POWERPACK ( HYDRAULIC PUMP ) on eBay (end time 04-Dec-10 14:06:49 GMT)
  19. Sitka spruce and the odd bit of leylandii in the rayburn that does the radiators, hot water, and cooking
  20. Theres always old touring caravans going cheap if you're in the right place at the right time I've had 3, the current one was the most expensive, it cost £20 Also folks usually give statics away for free so long as you arrange your own transport I think you need planning for statics though? Maybe there is a time limit? I would say get something cheap/free, fit a woodburner, if its still cold bodge some insulation on the outside
  21. I've got the clear stihl combi can fitted with both the anti spill nozzles, best thing since sliced bread The only thing is, some petrol station cashiers don't like the clear cans and won't turn on the pump
  22. I recently put a pair of mud + snow tyres on the back wheels of my Transit, they seem a bit better but I haven't really tested them yet Mine are made by Collins, Polish I think, they're retreads
  23. Ford Transit Forum • View topic - MK6 fuse, relay and diode locations/ratings Just watch, as I think there was 2 slightly different layouts depending on the year
