Looks cool, the GTW will prolly be something like 5500kg or 5750kg Whats the trailer weigh empty though? Looks heavy, if its over 1020kgs then technically it needs an O licence

I once saw an excavator being driven out of an industrial estate at 3am, which seemed rather odd so I phoned the local cop shop but the bloke on the desk didnt seem too interested

I use a silverline firbeglass handle splitting maul most of the time, as I tend to be burning ugly knotty bits of wood I also have an old felling axe to use on the easy stuff, but think I could do with buying a new one as the head has a crack running down it and the handle is fairly battered

I've been using cheap (£2/litre) 2 stroke recently, think I'm gonna go back to better stuff as the saw seems a bit rough when cold Has anyone tried the "Supertack bio chain oil" Clark forestry sell? Its only £40 inc vat for 25l, same price as the normal oregan chain oil I've never used bio oil before, does it lubricate as well, and do you need to adjust the pump?

There was a guy I used to work with at the council who stood on the roof of the van to cut branches I also heard about the verge cutting team, the tractor with flail arm would get most stuff but signs etc need doen by hand. So they had one guy stood/sat on the back of the transit tipper with a strimmer whilst the other guy drove it, slowing down at every sign

I seen one once when I was down in the south of England, last year I think it was. Must've been Sussex or somehwere Brighton direction. Was a bright yellow open top double decker with all this warning tree cutting sign writing. I think it was a council not a contractor

Spotted this in a vaguely local forest today. At a distance I thought it was a new type of marking for trees to be felled, but then I realised it was a type of double sided tape like a fly trap. Someone had spray painted "100 ->" onto a log by the track, which looked to be the number of trees with the tape on Never seen anything like it before but from searching on the internet it seems to be a way of detecting the pine lappet moth Forestry Commission - News - pine-tree lappet moth found breeding in scottish forests

At college they taught us to use the Swedish brush axes (you don't often see them about), but they were very good for clearing small trees, gorse, broom, etc

Thanks everyone, wee Jim phoned us earlier to say that he now knows Grants of Ballindalloch have a couple of timber rigids or wag n drags (I only ever see their artics) Still have to sort out the land to put the wood on so we'll see what happens

Are there any locals on here who know of any haulage companies in the area who have a rigid timber wagon? (don't think I've seen any on the road) I might have a load or two of logs to be moved less than 10 miles, but I don't think you'd be able to get in with an artic. There's currently no machinery to load/unload so would need something with its own hiab/grab

Hi there, I'm looking for work in forestry, landscpaing, groundscare, estates, labouring, anything really, I like the outdoors! I have a CS30/CS31 chainsaw licence and past experience in tree felling & planting, operating foresty machinery like forwarders, tractors, skidders, saw benches, splitters etc. Have done the odd "homer" as a groundsman helping a tree climber I have also done grass cutting (stimmers, walk behind mowers, ride ons), brush/scrub cutting, fencing, weed spraying, turfing, seeding, and general ground care. I can do woodworking, metalworking, welding etc on a diy basis Would love to learn new skills or gain new qualifications. I have a driving licence and my own transport I live in Inverness-shire (nr Beauly), and would be willing to travel to remote parts of the Highlands for temporary contracts and the like I can work on an employed or self employed basis, permanent or temporary.
