Just thought I would bump this old topic and see how folks are getting on with the barrow bags? I'm kinda thinking about them myself right now I only run a small firewood business. I have a LWB transit (panel van) and an 8x5 drop side trailer (not tipper). I fitted mesh sides so I can offer two load sizes, a "single" at 1.25 m3 and a "double" at 2.5 m3. The larger load is proving the most popular, as it works out slightly cheaper for the customer. Also I think that a nice trailer load of logs with my sign on the back makes good advertising As it's not a tipper, it takes around 20 mins to handball the 2.5 cube of logs out of the trailer with the customer helping I haven't really got the money for a decent 2nd hand tipping trailer. Also a lot of my deliveries seem to be to places where you just can't get a trailer as close in as you're like - narrow busy city streets or single track roads with tight driveways, cos it's a long wheel base you run out of space at the front wheels Does anyone use barrow bags for large deliveries of 2 cube or more, or is it just folks buying a bag or so at a time? Do you think they would be quicker than handballing a load onto their drive, or do folks expect you to take it round the house down the path and to the far end of their shed just because it's on wheels? Does anyone know of any of the bag companies that would sell less than 50 units? I think I would only need half that

I remember one we were taught at college, you make a slit in at 45 deg nearish the top on a high stump, then you stick your pulp hook into the slot to hold the bottom of your saw, and make another slit in the top of the stump for the bar to sit in

How easy is your wood to split? What I do with big rings (simillar size to yours) is knock them in half with a wedge so you can lift them up onto the splitter

I built mesh sides for my 8x5 trailer a few weeks ago It's inch weldmesh, you could cable tie tarpaulin or black plastic dpm to the inside for a light way of holding chip? (halfway through painting)

You will need a calibration cert aswell, tachos need to be calibrated every 2 years And make sure you get the right discs, it's probably a 180km/h model, HGV ones will be 125km/h

What is he trying to make the charcoal from? We had a go at making some at college, I can't remember what species we used but I think we opened it too early, although we did get a bit out of it. You can use an old oil drum as a small kiln for charcoal, might be a good way to start off?

I've got two mk6 transits (panel vans), each with around 200,000 on the clock If I was short on cash and I wasn't planning on doing any long distance I might look at an LDV though Earlier ones came with the 2.5 transit engine or peugeot Later ones (2002 on) had the Transit 2.4l, same as RWD mk6 transits. LDV offered the 2.4 engine in 75ps and 90ps, from what I've heard I would avoid the 75ps

What about briquettes to get you up an running? All you have to do is buy them in, sell them on straight away. No seasoning, storage, cutting, splitting, noise, waste, etc

You could look at motorbike intercoms, every so often lidl/aldi do a basic rider to pillion one (so doesn't use radiowaves) but for a few quid you get a 2 earphones with mics on sticks which you might be able to bodge into some ear defenders and PMR446 radios The motorola units tend to be a lot lot better than the argos cheapies though Also have a look on ebay for radio headsets, there's all sorts of things on there that look like you could fit them into ear defenders

Just looked on ebay, going by the pic in the first post you bought your splitter from the same person as me? (Harrows are us) I got the tractor mounted one, yes it's made to a budget (the blade is only mild steel), but it's a good enough bit of kit, and before I bought it I had spoke to him on the phone and he seemed friendly enough

I would say both, typical chinese gear, poor quality metal and poor coatings meaning brand new stuff turns rusty very quickly If you want a diesel splitter get something like this JCB Hydraulic Breaker pack Hose & Gun.
