I think something road towable would be the best, can make or modify a trailer if needed. Although I have a 4ft wide ramp on my van so might be able to load somehting in there. It will probably be mainly for splitting softwood up to about 2ft round 33bk, any idea on costs?

I'm thinking about a powered splitter. Don't have a tractor or anything to run one off Although a electric one would be cheaper to run (and possibly more reliable?) I think something petrol powered would be more useful I've used a tractor mounted vertical table type splitter before which I liked, some of the petrol ones I've seen for sale look like backache unless you modify them I can weld but don't know anything at all about hydraulics Is it possible to run a splitter normally mounted on a tractor off a hydraulic "power pack" As an example, would this splitter: LS 2 10 Ton Tonne Hydraulic Log Splitter ( Heavy duty) on eBay (end time 23-Dec-10 19:19:31 GMT) Plug straight into and work fine off this engine/pump: VANGUARD 9HP HYDRAULIC POWERPACK ( HYDRAULIC PUMP ) on eBay (end time 04-Dec-10 14:06:49 GMT)

Theres always old touring caravans going cheap if you're in the right place at the right time I've had 3, the current one was the most expensive, it cost £20 Also folks usually give statics away for free so long as you arrange your own transport I think you need planning for statics though? Maybe there is a time limit? I would say get something cheap/free, fit a woodburner, if its still cold bodge some insulation on the outside

I've got the clear stihl combi can fitted with both the anti spill nozzles, best thing since sliced bread The only thing is, some petrol station cashiers don't like the clear cans and won't turn on the pump

I recently put a pair of mud + snow tyres on the back wheels of my Transit, they seem a bit better but I haven't really tested them yet Mine are made by Collins, Polish I think, they're retreads

Well I saw one on ebay and bought it, got it for £70 The major design flaw seems to be the length of the bed/ram Useful for splitting the big rings in half sideways, so you can get at them with a maul a lot quicker Also if you have planks to be made into kindlers (for your own use) you can stack 5 or 6 up and split them in one go without risking any fingers

I would happily burn seasoned leylandii, but I don't think many people would buy it!

I've made basic stencils before using cardboard, print out the design onto paper and stick that to a bit of card, and cut out the sections with a stanley knife, job done lol I've now got a plotter/vinyl cutter so could prolly have a better crack at them, havent had a need yet though

Has anyone ever tried a manual log splitter like the Clarke Logbuster 4? Clarke Log Buster 4 Manual Hydraulic Log Splitter - Machine Mart Looks like a large bottle jack mounted within a frame, with a "fast" and "slow" handle Obivously not gonna be as fast as a maul on striaght wood but I was wondering if it would be any use on knotty stuff? Or so my parents can split wood for themselves?
