  1. Real life testing of usefull new products.
  2. Good leather gloves help a lot with avoiding infections into wounds. Those with a close cuff avoid snagging issues.
  3. The hunt called this morning and a man turned up this afternoon to mend the damage to the stone wall. Have said we will be informed of future events to avoid problems which is good. Neighbours black mare still with some leg damage and being stabled.
  4. That's too close to the system and it should be at least head height as the invisible fumes rise if there is an issue. Each boiler/cooker/fire should have one in the same room. Carbon monoxide detectors - Heating, water & electricity - Which? Home & garden
  5. Big problem in the surrounding counties also. Stolen for the lightweight panels and spares. A good commercial wheel clamp stops drive offs. (Thatcham approved)
  6. The modern ones do give a more visible plume but most is water vapour and the rest dangerous gases. Important is have you a carbon monoxide alarm close to the boiler and cooker? The person installing should have done this. I would be more worried about the old people using an outdated gas fire as fumes have been known to travel through into close homes.
  7. Well we had an interesting afternoon!! Arrived at the fields we use for the Clydesdales to do some manure collection for tree planting and could see in the distance a fox hunt going on with loads of horses. (no polite notice from them there was a hunt due) So closed the middle field gate incase of issues. (sixth sense) The hounds came much closer and caused the cattle herd to charge along the hedge wall with them following. The neighbours black mare spooked so much and ran and crashed into the high stone wall knocking it down and ending up in the fields we use. (bruised legs and bleeding cuts) Meantime the large fox sneaked past the stable block and into a private garden with all the dogs following:lol: Then it vanished towards the main road. I hate to think of the outcome if we had not been there and not a single person from the hunt followers watching offered to help with catching that horse and opening gates/stopping traffic on the public road. The Clydesdales herded the horse to the side in the end and the woman horse owner arrived fuming big style. We know under the "Animals Act 1971" that all dogs on Agricultural land worrying livestock (which includes horses) can be shot with legal defence so presume that includes dogs from a hunt. There were no horse men/women close at the time to control the hounds.
  8. Rain Gales Rain Gales Sun Rain Gales. No snow.
  9. Stevie Nicks
  10. Good Insurance!! (read the small print)
  11. Hope the operation and healing goes well. Out of interest were you using good leather gloves?
  12. A barn/building used for Agricultural/Forestry use and more than 30m from a public right of way and this includes roads is classed as permitted development and does not need planning permission. One does have to inform the local council before starting incase it wishes to comment on materials considered as suitable to blend in to the rural area. I have done two on different sites and a third which had to have planning as close to a main road but application was simple. Think of future needs and make some drawings/costings before contact with the council.
  13. Considering much fruit is grown there it was expensive and cannot move produce between states due to regulations. Nice stable weather most of the time unless bushfires. The Australian government is now paying people to move from Sydney into the rural areas as difficult to keep up with housing demands and fresh water supplies.
  14. We were invited on the local moose hunt (Elgjakt) in southern Norge which was a real eye opening event. (helping process a large moose on the mountainside) All sensible rural people had to pass a rifle test before to gain a licence and strict regulations of the ages/sex/numbers of moose to be shot. Meat is used to survive on in the depths of wintertime. Some fox hunts here now seem to be an excuse for a drunken trash around some fields damaging stone walls and being rude to the public and often the fox vanishes into private gardens to escape with the hounds causing hassle. More foxes in towns now and more rabbits in the countryside. Need more trained gamekeepers to keep vermin down.
  15. Raw Garlic and fresh Ginger to keep the bugs away and good hand washing. (coughs and sneezes spread diseases)
  16. Some food and houses are much more expensive than in the UK. LPG to use in vehicles was cheap. I found the tree shapes strange to normal here and when it goes dark.
  17. Did you take much sugar with the coffee also? Headaches and blurred vision and feeling sick are common. I often drink Banana/Mango now in working hours to keep fluid levels high and Tomato soup instead when cold weather. Then have a malt drink in the evenings which helps relax. (non booze malt before someone laughs)
  18. OK should have used several possible examples including if in a river crossing as often in woodlands. At least with lightning one should be safe inside.
  19. Depends if the vehicle has started burning like I have seen with farm produce onboard and lines crossing fields.
  20. Take care when working underneath and close to these live lines! Sad news on someone involved in the trade. BBC News - Supplies hit after power line incident kills haulier If one is in a vehicle that becomes live do not touch metal and when leaving the vehicle leap as much a distance as possible with feet close together. NEVER climb down onto the ground whilst still touching the vehicle.
  21. If you are going to KL then take a visit to the Cameron Higlands and Penang. I always wondered if Christchurch is built on a sand basin with a high water content should house be wooden and on a large raft? This would solve much of the building damage and those being hurt. I would like to visit central Otago.
  22. Dried working dog mixture with vegetable oil. Fresh rabbit and bones from the local meat place when available. Washed down with milk.
  23. Yes if classed as a Agricultural/Forestry machine and you can go with him to help with learning. Start him on reversing trailers as soon as possible. NFU insurance will cover this and if over 21 all drivers with permission and no increase on the cost. I learned to drive on a farm at 14 with a Grey Fergie. I remember asking the man where the foot throttle was.
  24. The homeless need help all seasons and often are like that through no fault of their own. (late bills/stolen property/councils/fraud) Keep up the good work.
  25. I had posted elsewhere warning about this going on often in public carparks like supermarkets/shopping centres. (Normal high speed cut saws used) The second issue is drilling plastic fuel tanks and sucking the diesel into a 200ltrs drum in the back of a normal looking vehicle. Worth reporting to the local Police and scrap place. One in this area now takes pictures of all people bringing in waste and the vehicle so can trace stolen goods. A second local one was closed down due to taking stolen cables from the railways.
