  1. Nice work rachel, and welcome to the forum.
  2. Wish i had talent like this, wouldnt know where to start with a carving. Like the bears, but its the owl thats caught my eye.
  3. Its strange, because i'm sure i have read on the website of the trainer that i use, that the instructor provides the winch etc, however when i emailed one of the people in the office enquiring about the course and equipment needed, they emailed me a list back with the winch on it, and stating they expect me to have all equipment. As im not looking to do the course until about october/november i'm sure i will get to the bottom of it. Thanks again to all those saying i can borrow their kit. Much appreciated. If i did decide to buy my own, which combination of winch/strops would be the best to go for ?
  4. Spot on, this is also what i got told during my apprenticeship. No bj for me, bloody arguing all night again. Off to tidy up after concreting yesterday.
  5. Well, that is the thing. I emailed them yesterday with my enquiry, and they replied saying that they expect me to have all the equipment required. But i'm sure i read somewhere that the training provider/instructor would have a winch for the pupils to use. I dont mind buying my own if i have to, just dont want to pay full wack, as i dont work in trees, i just like doing the courses, for the experience.
  6. Hi I am thinking about doing the above course just for the experience However i am led to believe that you need your own winch and strops. I dont fancy the idea of paying for top of the range stuff as i dont think it would get much use after the course, if any at all. I have seen some in machine mart, but would these be any good and what size winch/cable/strop would give me the best combination to get through the course. Also how many high lift wedges and again which sort. Hope this makes sense:confused1: Thanks Harvey
  7. ive been hit and abused by more oaps' riding them mobility scooters, than i ever have by a young child on a bike. Kids up to the age of about 8 should be on the pavement imo. Mobility scooters are a pain regardless of where they are.
  8. Same here, needle and thread, but can also do straight lines on a machine.
  9. Us lot from barnsley have 4 plus a weird bag for the paper.
  10. Nice one hotrod with the dolmak, you wont be disapointed. I bought one just before xmas and love it. It is a tad on the heavy side, but when its in the cut ringing up you barely notice. One thing i did was to take the solid bar off and chain, and put an oregon bar and chain on as mine came with a solid nose and multicut chain. It transformed the saw tremendously. Mine lives with a 28" bar on it, pulls it with ease. Welcome to the club.
  11. I was looking at these 2 models, but i am unclear whether they are split shaft or not. I would prefer split shaft for ease of transportation.
  12. My parents have a pure patterdale, it has never been worked properly, but it would fight anything, bark at anything, guard the house till death, and yet would be the softest, gentliest dog possible to my two kids, who have known it since the day they were born. It has never given me an ounce of worry towards my children.
  13. These are what i wear all year round really. I get mine from toolstation, about £2:20 a pair. Hardwearing and comfy.
  14. Hi Andrew, glad the saw is still going strong. Have you had any experience with the brushcutters.
  15. I put a 28" oregon bar and full chisel chain (oregon lpx) on her. I got a couple of these chainsat the same time as the bar and i think they are really good. Although when they need replacing i'm going to try stihl chain, as this is what i'm now putting on the rest of my saws with really good results.
  16. Good point turtle, never thought about redex, but can you use it on 2 stroke gear. I have taken the saw into my local repair centre, as like i said i am no mechanic and never will be. Interestingly, i was talking to the guy there and he said it probably was a carb fault on it. But he also said that they are now putting more and more ethenol in fuel and its causing loads of problems with the settings/tuning on saws and other 2 stroke machines in general. Yes the 9010 is a beast i got by accident. I wanted the 7900 but for an extra £30 quid or so i thought sod it and got it. Glad i did now. Hated it at first with a solid nose bar and multicut chain. Swapped the bar and chain over and its a completely different saw.
  17. i always thought that partner was either based on or part of mcculloch. The first picture looks very similar to a home owner mac. I'm sure years ago machine mart used to sell both macs and partners, and they were near identicle to look at.
  18. I thought it was a booster every 10 yrs, if you had no incidents in between.
  19. this happened to me last year, went to bed fine, woke up next morning in agony. went to work till dinner then went to a&e. Found out that it was a fine eye lash that had curled under my eyelid.Every time i blinked it scratched my eye.
  20. logrover, my makita 4300 is poorly at the mo as well, we might be able to get a good saw between us.
  21. Hi turtle, the fuel was at least 2 months old, i mix a gallon at a time, but sometimes it takes a couple of months for me to use it, as i dont use my saws every day. Incidently ive ran my new 9010 on the same fuel with no problems. Ive just got some fresh fuel which im going to mix and try. cheers.
  22. Cheers spud, luckily the piston seems fine, no scoring at all. I got the sparks after i had run it on fresh fuel for about 10 mins on and off. The problem now is i tried altering the L screw and S screw and not too sure where they should now be set at.
