  2. I could take as much as poss with a timber trailer then the rest of the crap / off cuts can go in the tipping trailer. Nowadays I keep some for processor, and rest goes for biomass. Was wondering if I could earn some money from bringing back in 2.5m lengths and sell out a wagon load once i've accrued it
  3. Yes... I'd rather be safe and know my load etc.... Also it needs to look right and be road worthy. Any big lumps could be bossed on with the front loader anyhow? I think the 8t trailer would more suit me.... I do consider getting a bigger hp tractor at times but then how far do you go? I think smaller is better at times. My farmer mate keeps getting bigger and bigger heavier tractors. Sometimes they struggle to get in places. Rather have a nimble outfit than a canal barge
  4. Are they 4m lengths then? Would you ever put 2 bays of 2.5 on it? or is that over kill. I have also learnt through experience, its better to do multiple trips at a smaller amount than busting balls and trying to do less trips with more on!
  5. Cheers for that. This is to go behind a 399 with pavt wheels and a loader on tractor so tractor has a good base weight. DOnt want to be pulling its arse out either lol

Its mainly arb and agg work Matty, Would like something with as decent a lift as possible.... prefer the size of an 8t trailer to be fair as saw Gray Gits old 11t botex and it seemd huge.... maybe thats just me? Maybe the 4-5' dia stems i'd just have to do in 2-3' rings to load? would usually cut as big as i can lift with the loader for them. Also would want as much lift / reach / power as possible for removing standing stems (to a point) Jasp had a nice farmi trailer on but thats gone.... All the others are botex 560 and above but start 12500 plus vat and above.... then the odd occasional older one comes in at 10 plus vat... Theres a nice botex 8t with 360 on ebay but sceptical about that as its been on before.... maybe it didnt sell? maybe its a scam! Either way would need it to be man enough
  7. Yes, Im trying to see how much valuable and worthwhile timber there would be to warrant a forwarding trailer from a "tree" in the first place.... Usually get big diameter stuff..... some 4-5' dia stuff to come out and there will be quite a bit of timber there. Just trying to maximise saleable timber as not bothered about logs much anymore. Steering drawbar sounds good. Been trying to find a video link so i can see what they are like if you have to go a sharp 90 degree into a site etc... not found owt yet. Seen a kts one for sale recently looked ok. Whats the re sale value like further down the line? I suspect botex will keep its money better. Not against a second hand trailer. Most seem down south! also theres some right heaps out there
  8. Draw bar wouldn't be long enough though to get both to site unless i put the crane in the trailer, also t be a pain unloading anything up against the sides? Trailers in just now for some taller sides on for all the ugly gnarly bits to collect from site.
  9. I'm considering looking at getting a timber trailer and timber crane. Just looking at advice on what to look at and go for? So far I've seen some old dogs on ebay.... small farmi crane and no brakes etc.... not what I'm after. Don't want anything massive as some of the sites I work at are crap access! Maybe a steering drawbar will help here? I want it braked and big floatation? tyres on not the smaller agg tyres I've sort of decided I need the biggest / best crane and grab I can afford. I don't want to mess about with something that can't pick a match stick up! I currently use a front loader and tipping trailer to good effect. Just thinking it may cut down on labour on site for starters. Also if I was to start to bring back in 2.5m lengths and stock pile at the yard to sell on, what kind of revenue could I look to get? and up to what size dia is acceptable? Seen some trailers on jasp wilsons sites all a lot of money on there but seem good kit! Any info to help me appreciated! Hard work really as its something that wouldn't get masses of use..... but is it something you'd use a lot more often once you have it? Seems a more efficient way than a front loader and tipping trailer.....

  11. Seen this thread earlier.... was sat there considering wether to buy a 3120 or not but everything it can do i can do with 660 and 36" bar..... big stuff 4-5'dia is generally on fells so cut into big pieces and lift and cart away with tractor.... Have no need to ring big stuff up currently

    Alloy planking will is the way to go. Any steel box you put in the build get it galvanised. Sick of steel going rusty and having to paint to keep looking good!

  16. I get what your saying there... I'm a contractor. We bring back plenty of wood. We do sell some but in fairness I don't really have the time to do it. I've started to send a lot of wood and decent wood at that! Beech ash etc off for biomass. It pains me to do it and I always question if its the right thing to do..... financially and morally. At the end of the day it clears my yard to give me space to work. Still pains me but its the way it is. Not worth having someone coming up and cutting all the lengths into rings then splitting or on the bigger diameter stuff..... ringing then quartering then splitting. If this system does come in place, annual fee for joining them, on spot checks for moisture content, and then maybe a tonnage fee for how much you sell then I'll gladly give up and leave it to some other mug. I work hard enough for my money to give it away to someone for bugger all.
  17. Didn't really want to say this but go run a chainsaw around the bottom to ring bark. Shady tactics and not something i've done to be fair. As Gary said your working for the customer not the council. The council workers will always be paid..... they may come out and tpo tree and you potentially loose the work... its no skin off their nose which ever way the hammer falls. I did speak to a Knob of a TO once and they told me no con area and tpo..... but it depends what you want to do he said..... pruning is OK but if you want to remove we may protect them. This is friday afternoon.... My customer wanted the tree's removed, spoke to them that evening and went and felled them the next morning
  18. Currently have an issue with my tractor spotlights. Both front and back are on the same 25amp fuse supply. They are the old style halogen lights 55 whatt bulbs. Very good lights to be fair. If both are on together for more than a few minutes it pops the fuse! Might be an earth problem but all looks ok. Was considerig changing the lights over to LED. Anyone know much about the led lights? Are they any cop? Do they give out a good beam for distance aswell? Are they avaliable like for like comparison to the current halogen lights? many thanks
  19. Can you not move power pack to the other side? Its only one hose and a few wires. Or mount tank at other side and extend pipes and wires to the sender
  20. I upped the tyre size on the front after mangling my first tank!

  23. Been through this years ago... ripped bottom of 2 tanks on a crew cab I owned. had enough. Got a fuel tank of an ldv convoy tipper. One with a nozzle and cap with a key. Also got the brackets with it. Thinknit was maybe 80.00 ish. That bolted onto the chassis easy and was well up out of the way. From recollection i could also fuel it up without having to tip the body up slightly also. Rewired into the fuel sender on the ldv tank and guage worked too Theres your fix boys. Was spot on then
  24. I used to use veg oil for a good while. Great and cheap but all it did was stick all the fine sawdust to the saw and gunk everything up. Ended up due to build up knackering the worm gears from the pumps on a few saws in the end. cleaned tanks out and gave up with it. Been using oregon or super sexy oil. also have used clarkes bio oil for a good while and had no issues there
  25. I wonder if one of those attachements would be any good on a front loader of a tractor? Beefed up a bit if course
