  1. Lots of talk on here about various processors and splitters but less about which saw bench you use. Would like to change mine not before too long, got a McConnell Logmate at the moment, I liked the look of Theocorus's (?!) one in arblistings the other week.
  2. had 2 new customer orders today, both from leaflet drop last week. and delivered 2 loads today to new customers. all very very happy with my bone dry ash
  3. He is in Melford, nice old boy. Just plods along each day, doing the odd load or 2
  4. a chap just out of sudbury, red and blue tranny tipper, hasnt changed his £100 a load in years. really cant match that price. another chap 2 miles away, started this yr....£70 for same amount of logs as my £100 load!! oh well, im not too fussed! Its not worth doing at that money so i'll just sit on my eggs for a while i think
  5. blacks at bacton supplied my one, they were very helpful when delivering mine and hepled sight it and get level. was bout £1600 i think for 2nd grade one, which are pretty decent tbh
  6. Im 29 shortly, if in 2 years i have a Range Rover like your profile pic I wont be worrying about much mate to be honest!! Seriously though, my bro is is 40 next yr and he doesnt seem 10 weeks older then me let alone ten yrs! Age is what you make of it mate, i hate having to trainer harder now to keep fit but hey ho thats life!
  7. Quiet couple of weeks, posted 800 flyers now and all local villages should be aware of my firewood business now, so its up to them to give me a go and hopefully some will. We've got nicely in front of our selves with billeting etc, 3 new customers yesterday so cant grumble to much.
  8. waste of time i think, all the bending over. might as well axe sycamore like that
  9. yeah we left a 30cm gap between timber and trailer floor so we could slide pallet tines straight under and pick up the whole load at once with the fork truck back at the wood heap
  10. yes that was me, didnt realise east anglian went into norfolk too?
  11. our quad and homemade timber trailer, was too wet in our sssi woodland for anything bigger. only taking timber out for ourselves so not to worried about the time it took
  12. i started doing firewood on a saturday for bit of extra income, went well and now do it 2/3 days a week and employ a chap to help. i'd say net a load of logs up, sell them anywhere you can, outside your house, farmers market, local christmas fairs etc
  13. i really like this, may have some local to me interested in knocking something similar up
  14. yeah thats right jon, you've just got to put yourself about, listen to everything and everyone, dont be afraid to ask and take a few calculated risks all the best
  15. think this is a real grey area, i was told its 9 cars and over 3 miles you HAVE to oull over. how the hell you count cars whilst concentrating on the rd is beyond me!
  16. cheers, im no different to anyone establishing themselves in what ever industry really. just think its especially hard with farming cause of capital needed but there are ways round things dont give up my friend! i have mate who is late 40's never done farming but always fancied it, he still works full time in london but has now bought 50 acres and studies 2 days a week at ag college! all the best
  17. yeah thanks for that Andy, im pleased with the article. although the EADT never told me they were publishing it this weekend and never gave me chance to proof read the article, but hey ho wouldnt of changed much! hopefully it'll help spread my name in a good light. thanks for the support
  18. you can get a dispensation to travel agricultural machinery on motorways, so thats not exactly true. i have legally driven on a14, a12, a1. havent enjoyed one bit of it mind you. back to the thread. we have to do a lot of road work between our farms and where ever possible we go out of our ways to stay off main roads and normally travel longer but on quieter back roads. but a certain farm near Bury that does ALOT of silage have made things difficult for us as they have upset ALOT of local road users this autumn and now every tractor driver around here gets abuse for being on the road! one DRIVING INSTRUCTOR in particular has suffered proper road rage with me twice this autumn, first time he over took me then slammed on the brakes jumped out the car and marched up to me in the loader giving me all sorts of abuse, bare in mind he had a student with him, i politely asked him to get back in his car and get the hell out of my way so i could carry on with my job.
  19. just run them straight over saw bench, easy its easier and quicker then cutting to log size and then splitting each log say in to 4
  20. thats exactly what i did with that arse of a customer i ranted about few weeks back. seen him a few times since walking his dogs whilst i've been out delivering logs, always make sure i give the prat an over the top wave and big smile. hope he goes cold all winter the miserable sod. took a load of logs too a so called friends dad last winter, dropped the load off with him and my "friend" watching, the dad says is cash ok? yep no probs, he gives me 75, i say its 90 quid wether its cash or cheque, surely cash should be less he said aggressively, ok thats fine i said, so calmly filled quarter of my truck back up and drove off. look on his face was priceless.
