It was mental busy this week and one before christmas last year, as others have said numerous times, mild weather and have a go harry's have slowed the pace down some what. all the best and happy new year everyone
  2. I'm not surprised nobody quibbles them prices! I'd buy all your logs if I was next door!
  3. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSXvdKupzgo&feature=related]PINOSA.NET EPC6500_5000_750 STATIC FIREWOOD PROCESSOR - YouTube[/ame]

  5. sounds like a really cool christmas bro, looking forward to christmas with my own kids one day! all the best
  6. Christmas in my first home with the Girlfriend was best present....but my personalised number plates was up there as best present also
  7. Can we still buy tickets today?
  8. I work for one guy most of the year round and got him a real nice vintage port. Its not much imo but I hope he see's it as a token of my appreciate of his generosity during the year. Also had 2 or 3 other farmers help me out big time this year and they also recieve a bottle of Port. I dont think it takes much to thank your boss @ christmas, I have had a few people work for me this year....not even a thanks for the work expect from my brother. He does the firewood with me and he cooked me 2 fantastic Waitrose steaks and then we went to the local and had a lock in
  9. i thought i'd finished work yesterday but ended up taking load of logs out, 2 hay deliveries and one straw! Just got in, oh well! Cracking a beer open now as I make the fish pie up for Boxing Day. Gonna put Home A Lone on once i'm done All the best Simon
  10. this thread is very very interesting, i feed my spaniel a standard working dog dry mix 90% of the time but have been thinking for a while now i should be supplying him with fresher stuff. he gets the occasional rabbit and loves it, going to make more of an effort to get him scraps from butchers and mince meat more. he's my best mate and wanna treat him good
  11. Im self employed but my main man who i farm for mostly took us all (and partners) out for a really nice christmas meal, he's given us a very welcome voucher for the local butchers and is taking us 3 lads to the local for lunch today then we're finished till Jan 3rd
  12. SO sad and a true tragedy but like others have said, many factors counted to the fire. Maybe wet logs didnt help, but no fire guard no smoke detectors etc.....accident waiting to happen
  13. yeah i add 20% to the farm shop i sometimes supply, only normally put 5% on the pubs invoice.....is this wrong then?>
  14. Am I right in saying that everything i sell as a business I add VAT too, this is how i understand it and how i have always done it. so if i buy 1000 log nets whole sale for example from non-VAT registered producer i should add 5% to final user? I had never doubted things till reading this thread!
  15. But if you were VAT registered when it was bought and now selling on i do believe you do add VAT, may be wrong. But i think thats how it is.
  16. its alright doing it through a personal account until you need help from the bank i.e small business loan or emergency overdraft, they wont be so keen to help then i bet. i questioned whether a business account was worth it myself to start with but advice from account was to keep it strictly business and use business account. most banks do them for 2 yrs free anyway.
  17. ha not so sure bout that but helps that the ag division of lloyds east anglia is 15 mins from me. Also Lloyds are the only bank left in my local town, although its a tiny bank its very very handy and another reason i changed from Natwest tbh
  18. I've 2 seperate business accountants with Lloyds and they have been very good so far. Offered me a 10k overdraft to start with and no other bank would even offer half of this. I was with Natwest before this but they are absolutely terrible and I wont be having anything to do with them again. My lloyds Agriculture business manager is always available, i have his mobile number on my phone and his office is only 15 minutes from the farm. That contact goes along way with me.
  19. i have had 1000 very good quality flyers made up from Printing.com in Bury St Edmunds and they are working very well. I give one too each customer i drop wood too, and flyer their neighbours while im there. Have also targetted a few local villages where i have little customers so far and response has been very good indeed. Think key is to have a good flyer, not some crap you have knocked up on word in ten minutes. I'm trying to establish my business at all times, be it with website, sign written truck, letter heads, with compliment slips, proper invoices, flyers etc, all worth doing in my opinion.
  20. all as my land lord wont put a log burner in
  21. Just sensible I suppose and not borrowing more then I can afford. I'm a new entrant to farming in my own right, maybe youth and sensible ambition stands me well? Just increased my overdraft by 30% this autumn as cashflow has took a big unexpected hit. Im happy to PM you my bank details and my business manager if your interested.
  22. No, i dont own any land at all. and i dont own my house either.
  23. not entirely true, with a good sensible realistic business plan most banks will listen to you. the past 12 months i have been given a large (for me) over draft facility, a small business loan to help with a vital bit of kit and finance on my tractor and hedge cutter. my bank have been most supportive of my plans and helped me no end.
  24. I've doubled the loads i've done last 3 months compared to Sep, Oct, Nov last year. For 4 years i've been doing logs, turnover has increased 50% each yr
  25. 3k would get you a nice track right through that that should last a while. if you go with quad try lots, my honda 500 was great at tow but the boss 420 was shite!
