  1. i billet everything up and its saved handling the logs a great deal in my system. need big splitter though. its a lot less handle then logging and then splitting
  2. these look really really good. Would be more interested if i had a landy but great idea. well done
  3. I have 2 very good, hard working chaps who help me with firewood. For 8 hours they get £100, so around £12ph. I trust them and they just get on with it. They can have breaks when they want and we normally stop for some sort of hot lunch on the stove. I know they aren't groundies but just having my say. If self employed I really cant see the point of working an 8 hr day for less than £12. I like to think my 2 chaps enjoy the work, they get free firewood and I'm normally the first one buying the beers and food in the pub. Establishing 3 new businesses at once has really worn me done, but at least these 2 can run the firewood for me and ease the worry there
  4. nice post that mark, appreciation from the boss is worth alot of ££££ in my eyes
  5. quick way of loosing fingers i'd say, nice idea tho
  6. My search for a suitable single cab pick up is proving to be quite tricky, i have found 2 club cab pick ups in my price range, just wondered if anyone has one and what the capacity is roughly of the buck. thanks for any advice Ben
  7. Thought this may interest someone, hell of a box on it! Ifor Willams Tipping Trailer With Built Up Box | eBay
  8. Couldnt agree more with Skyhuck, I'm not wasting time worrying, just cruising through ebay looking at loads of adverts as i'm in process of building my website and looking for hints and tips etc Egg I saw yours and was bout the only straight one I saw!!!
  9. Just done a 50 radius search from mine for firewood and am amazed by the amount of sellers misleading potential buyers by stating bulk bags are 1 ton of wood and 1 cubic metre etc, is also someone less then 5 miles from my selling a pick up load stated as 1 ton of logs. Is it only a matter of time before this misleading advertising is clamped down on? I may be wrong and the sellers are weighing each load, but i doubt it. Surely the only way we can advertising sensibly is by volume?!
  10. 1. Our new Oxford Sandy & BLack weaners 2. My better half Hunting last week at Chadacre 3. Suffolk Hunt Master 4. Spicy Lentil & Bacon soup 5. Next yrs firewood being delivered 6. Me ploughing right up behind beet harvester 7. Combi drilling wheat

  12. i would of put my house on someone saying it was a farmer doing....
  13. that is exactly what i want to do asap, 3 loads at once lovely old job
  14. 20% is what i aim at also. I aim to shift 5 loads a day @ £100 a go, once i have paid myself £100 and my bro £100 for the day, £200 for the cord and processing, delivery costs, I generally have around £100 left. So not to bad for a days work I feel.
  15. TBH I very rarely take a call from someone enquiring about wood and them not ordering a load from me. My adverts say a price so I dont get people ringing me up "for a quote"!, i think this is important with advertising as i dont have time to barter on the phone.
  16. I also have a facebook group for my firewood, had a couple of customers from it and its free so why not use it!
  17. Jim, I had 1000 glossy postcards made up from printing.com (very highly recommended) and they are working a treat this winter. Everytime i drop a load of firewood off to someone i flyer their neighbours etc i dont go out of my way to drop off flyers, just when its convenient. Also have advert in the local parish rag. And the firewood directory. I've relocated 6 months ago so felt it was important this winter to establish myself quickly and get word out of my firewood business locally to me. Word of mouth is still working very well also. Set a budget for advertising and stick to it (mine was £150 for this winter). Cheers
  18. My accountant is sure its 5% to the end user as they are using it as a heating fuel, 20% to a firewood supplier buying in cord
  19. how has sfp anything to do with it? cross compliance rule somewhere i suppose, but the hedge row work is hls not sfp
  20. Surely burning some brash in the middle of nowhere on private farmland is not illegal!!?? Im giving up life if its illegal
  21. normally wait for a breezy day. then I stuff 2 dry pallets with a couple of folded up cardboard boxes (boxes chemical bottles come in normally. lean the pallets against each other like a big A then light newspaper at the bottoms of the pallets. normally gets going a treat first time. Once the pallets are well a light i start droppiong brash on easy ) the grab makes it easy mind you!!
