  1. your right there steve, cheers. messages have been very helpful, if it werent for arbtalk the girlfriend would of had a right ear bashing tonight!! cheers
  2. the old boy supplying him is a friend of his and I didnt want to ruffle more feathers. Thanks for the advice , I may well do that.
  3. because he wanted to keep the wood hencing paying for it... its good wood and he WILL appreciate that when he starts burning it
  4. I will tell you exactly why he called me, his old chap delivered him 2 loads couple of weeks, which had only just been felled and hardly any of it was split!! bloody great rings that would spilt to 6/8 logs!!!!! I was polite enough not to even mention this, although i had to bite my lip!!!
  5. Your asuming i wasnt polite? I couldnt of been nicer on the phone, the chap is well known in the village and I respect him for that and couldnt of been nicer. He's given me a cheque otherwise I would of happily collected the wood.
  6. oh yeah i no, just took it as quite a personal insult. im flat out with orders and he is first one in 4yrs to ever question my prices. typical example of coyboy logs suppliers makng it hard for us trying to do it properly
  7. Delivered trailer load of first class (2yr old seasoned Ash most and bit of 5yr old Oak) logs today to a new customer, explained to him on the phone the size of my different loads and my prices and he was happy to order a £150 trailer. Deliver today, his not there but wife is. She shows us where to tip, we do and drive off happy in knowlegde of another satisfied customer....WRONG!!!! Get phone call 4 hours later, man of the house is home and is shocked how few logs were in the load and did we get it right!! His old supplier delivered twice as much for half the price apparently. Gets quite arsey wth me, rantng about how im "head and shoulders" more expensive then anyone else. I explain to him I am competitive and gave examples of other firewood guys prices. His old chap is retired, does transit loads for £100, gets his wood for free, demands cash, i doubt very much pays any tax or vat. I explained this to him and how I am trying to grow a respectable, profitable business. He is having none of it and finshes the call by saying he wants to support a young lad (me) from his village but wont be buying anymore of my wood unless I lower my prices, I said I wont evening start my tractor for anything less so best we go our seperate ways. What a first class prat, he has really got to me. I take a lot of pride with my firewood and I no my wood is first class and is value for money. :001_huh::001_huh::001

  12. there is alot of foodie pubs round here, queens at hawkedon (opposite my house!) is good for food. wanna try the pub @rede also
  13. £40/hr is good money, is that inclusive of fuel? i struggle to get £30 for £25ks worth of tractor and hedge cutter and my time!! good luck to the chap, i'd rather be doing his job
  14. 10mins from my gaff but havent visited yet, but its on the to do list. might walk dog up there next sunday if they welcome dogs?
  15. of course they are stress?!!! Mother is on her 6th batch of ex bats now, and think she has a couple of originals left too. they lay well, and the eggs are great. lovely colour and taste. I think its great too be able to give these poor birds a chance, they'd only end up in chicken pies otherwise. nice one tom
  16. Andy, I went 2 years ago and was bitterly dissappointed then tbh, parents and sister went yesterday and commented that there'd probably not go again. Very disappointing they thought. One chap offering firewood processing though with mobile machine was interesting to talk to dad said
  17. ....Jesus that young lady walking Dolan on has made my evening already!!!! Seriously though, really looking forward to the game
  18. Walked out of the local without paying last night very sheepishly walked in the afternoon to pay tab, stayed for another quick one and yorkie puds and gravy happy days
  19. just got back from the boozer, curried pork loin, 2 pints, game of darts and talk to 2 old irish chaps about firewood...happy days, 1000 times better then that shite factor and strictly!
  20. same here, i'd rather pay £3.00, have a chat with some friends about the day, few games of arrows, little look at the bar maid, all whilst walking straight in from work in work clothes and dog in tow....i cant do ANY of that at home
  21. 2 of my mates spent £1400 in a strip club in newmaket 2 weeks ago, OUCH!
  22. thats exactly what im talking about my local is 2 miles from the house but other side of the farm yards hedge
  23. David, your not far from me (stansfield) check out the compasses, and the queens at hawkedon if your ever this way
  24. Indeed they dont, but their are people of all sorts of age and background in my village who dont use it. people my age, similar jobs, same income, same interests but dont visit often.
  25. I live in a tiny little village in Suffolk, and am blessed by having a brilliant local. Its a proper village pub and welcomes the village drinkers with open arms, unlike some of the country foodie pubs. Sat in there this afternoon having a pint, talking about various people in the village, as you do! and was amazed how few people that I know in the village actually use the pub. It is a friendly good all round pub, that is suited well for the young and old, serves good food and has all the traditional pub games. Its the only service the village has and is the heart beat of the village but yet is it being supported as well as i feel it should be? probably not! Bet if it was to shut, which can never be ruled out, I bet the people who never use it kick off big time! Discuss gents
