  1. hedgerow work earlier in the year
  2. just digging out some heaping up and burning pics, watch this space.....
  3. Might sound daft but how do you guys motivated yourselves to do book work in the evenings when you've had a bloody tough day? I really struggle, and although i've got a good bookkeeper I still have odd bits that really need doing each evening. Rather just sit down with a beer, arbtalk and footy. REALLY wish i could be more organised, anyone else struggled but now found a good system or routine?
  4. I did a competition at the south suffolk show last year, guess the amount of logs in a bulk bag. Think it was 257ish! I charged a quid a guess and raised £80 for our young farmers club!
  5. your pretty cheap mate, do you buy wood in? i reckon them build bags you filled were small ones also. I have a single cab brava. a slightly heaped load will just about fill 2 standard .65 cubic metre bags. I sell bulk bags @£65, brava load @£100 and 1.7 cube trailer slightly heaped @£150. where in north essex r u?
  6. Had 2 email enquiries this week and 2 orders. Both orders very happy with the logs and have already passed my number on
  7. Last 2 weeks been real busy, interestingly all but 2 of the 18 loads i have done have been new customers. Word of mouth and new adverts are working well. And had 2 orders through the firewood directory, both very pleased with the wood and will suggest to their friends
  8. i think thats key nick, i said during summer i wouldn't go further then 8 miles away again but old custimers starting calling again and I'm taking at least 2 loads out at once, i would not go further then 5 miles with a single load mind you unless wacking on a dlivery charge
  9. anyone got any pics of their atlas trailers in everyday use? thanks for comments so far
  10. Want to get a tipper trailer this winter for firewood deliveries, anyone got said trailer and views on it? looks good on their website
  11. thanks for that. wouldn't agree totally with costly set up fees. the pigs are kept in with 2 strands of electric. energiser i got 2nd hand off ebay. nicked a battery we normally use for gas bangers. already had a pigloo (had it for puppies) recycled water and feed toughs. old IBC for water storage. straw - free as bales were rejects from horse people. feed is a problem yes, but managed to get 20kg bags of feed for £4.00 so not to bad. not doing it for profits but shouldn't loose money. do they suffer from the cold badly? we have them in the woods in a snug pigloo and loads of straw. dont really want to bring them into a shed once it gets cold but we can do if needed.
  12. yeah that was the problem i found, i just made a table from pallets waist hieght next to me. tbh though most of the time we use it, there are 2 of us. one holding saw and other fectching timber and loading the log loc
  13. I had an AX GT when I was 18, super fun little car. and seemed bloody quick! Doubt there are many on the road anymore. WOuld love to have a spin in one again
  14. got it on sky news whilst doing invoices, just hope police can deal with this without violence etc. But its a big site and I cant see the travellers going easily.
  15. I've got one of these, works brilliant and very easy to carry with you into woods etc. I use mine if the saw bench isnt available etc Log-Loc - Overview
  16. hi mikey, do you mind me asking what size nets you use for the logging tray and what size you cut the logs too. many thanks
  17. I had 6 Oxford Sandy and Black weaners delivered yesterday. We've made a nice big pen for them in one of our woods. Really looking forward to having a few livestock on the farm again. Anyone else keep these pigs? They seem so calm and happy in the woodland. Rooting around for acorns etc They are sure going to taste nice in a few months time
  18. hope you have a good day nick, they had first walk round on the farm yesterday. was nice hearing the guns again
  19. Bright white frost this morning, really werent expecting that! FIrewood calls hopefully go nuts now
  20. I'd say the Valtra is 100-120hp. YOu'd need all that to use that crane to full effect i'd say. Back to the original; thread, personally i would go for a tractor with front loader. for 8k you can get some nice but small case 4x4 tractors with loaders, these are favourites with equine yards as easy to use. 15k would get you a very nice tractor loader combo. hard to jusify a loader if your not shifting grain, beet, muck etc, where they really come into their own
  21. wouldnt worry me if he did, he'd see that a lot of firewood guys around the country supported my actions etc
  22. Im so so happy its quite a chilly evening tonight and all that chap now has in his log store is big rings of freshly cut oak and loads of grean poplar and 4 new customers are probably enjoying my 2yr old seasoned ash
  23. cheers chaps. I had delt with the problem and re delivered the logs by 9.00am this morning and rest of the day went well because of it.....and I collected 6 Oxford Sandy and Black weaners that are just brilliant and are gonna make me some great pork
