  2. Me too I was 14 when first started using a saw used to borrow the neighbours old mcculloch with no chain brake and it was used with no ppe barring steel toe cap boots, as you say you very quickly learn respect for the saw and safe working practices with it.
  3. I've said it before and I'll say it again theres plenty of "qualified" chainsaw operators about who should never be given a saw as thier downright dangerous but as they have a ticket to say they were ok on the last day of a 5 day course they can carry on, tickets are'nt worth the paper thier printed on its just another box ticking exercise for the blame culture we now live in, you can teach people how to operate any machine, what you can't teach is common sense.

  11. I don't think the rhyme for magpies goes up to ten lol, it goes one for sorrow, two for joy, three for a girl, four for a boy, five for silver, six for gold, seven for a secret never to be told. Other half is very superstsious and will always wave at a lone magpie as she believes its bad luck not too.

  13. Their members of the crow family so are carrion eaters, as has been said they won't just scavenge but will actively seek out nests to eat the eggs and chicks as will carrion crows, once watched a pair of carrion crows working along the rough grass on a fence line with one pwcking at the grass to make any mice bolt and the other waiting on the other side to catch them as they bolted.

  15. Been burning mainly leylandii this winter and as peasgood says burns hot and clean only need to deash the logburner once a fortnight not had any problems with spitting or sap but this has all been down a year to 18 months, keep all the splinters from splitting and makes good kindling.

  19. If I could of got £2.80-3-00 a metre for erection only up this way I would still be fencing, packed it in and sold the post knocker last spring after best part of 20 years as due to the amount of fencing contractors round this way £1.80m made me expensive whilst not covering fuel and labour etc.
