  1. what ever you get, try them on first!! ive got all manner of gear in different sizes, with very odd fittings, ie. stretchair hi viz troosers in small, yet they are far too big round the waist, but my fleece jacket in a large is just right, and the tee shirt in medium is too big also!! my stihl hiflex in a small is great, the small jacket is short in the arms, the mag tee in a medium is good, but the older kneeflex troosers need to be a medium!! 200squids for the stretchairs is about right, the hi flexs have also gone up to about the same, you dont fancy the 300squids x-fit troosers then?
  2. as far as i know, (which aint alot!) you can use any chain u want, anti kick back chains arnt "compulsory", they may be "reccommended" or "advised" by clients, or even management, but if used proper, there isnt a lot of difference between them,
  3. as far as im aware, your all right! iv done an ipaf, and have been told when enquiring about a cs47, that theres no point as im covered by a 39, personally id like both, just cant find a trainer/assessor for it. the princaples are the same (ish), ie safe working, proper cuts so its not hard.
  4. two words ZING IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! iv tried a few cheapie efforts, not great! but yeah, defo make it available in different colours, as most are the same and it gets confuzzlin!! who imports your gear over here? id like to try some armour prus, any freebie catalogues available?
  5. yeah! its great fun!! id suggest a petzl myo xp light, and a few floodies, and your away!
  6. Great innit? mick is an old style carver, just uses saws and his imagination!! are you at the woodfest this year? iv entered the poleclimbin comp, but i wouldnt mind havin a go at other things, like the fellin comp or maybe a bit of carving. who can i get hold of to find out who organises the events, theres nowt on the home pages.
  7. the stihl carving bar is in fact the echo bar, just painted in stihl colours. and are perfectly good. the cannon bars are also very good, and sholud have a fitting for the eleccy saw, but yes, you may need a sprocket conversion. tavistock chainsaws do them, The UK home of Cannon™ Bar Chainsaw bars, as does ed robinson, Ed-Robinson.co.uk
  8. it also dependes what the woodland is used for, a native woodland requires different management to a timber production woodland. even "unmanaged native woodlands" have been managed at one time in one way!
  9. i twas thinkin about one, but got a velocity based on the reviews.
  10. its not a new thing, its just an old knot tied with a fancy bit of string and a diff pulley. and yes i do have two, and yes i find they each have the same problems!!!!!! they are great once youve got your main anchor point and walkin out, but a bit fiddly to assend with, as im just too used to pushin me knot up! if youv got a groundie belayin its ok, but lets face it, most groundies are around the other side of the site fillin a chipper wiv the muffs down, they aint goin to hear you screamin to pull on your rope!!
  11. methinks the logo should remain, but with a second line under it thats states your status. ie member, technician, fellow, aaac. and should be restricted to a certain size or application, ie window sticker, or embroidered logo?
  12. yeah we've seen and used one, they dont last two minutes!! much better to use a bench mounted one in the workshop. even better, mount it onto a block of wood, so you can use it in a vice, then remove it to use the vice on other applications
  13. there is an easier way y'kno............ just climb out further, cut said branches in smaller lengths and hand throw to target. D'oh!!!!!!! even better you could use two 60cn slings and a steely krab?
  14. so when u get these stickers etc sorted, just put me down 4 a free helmet sticker (or three) please!!
  15. erm.........i believe the diplomatic answer is "no ta"
  16. Horses for courses m'dearies!! iv got a fake silver bull bag at the mo, it fits a 45m 11mm rope wiv loads of room left! it only cost a tenner and its supposed to fit a 25m rope! i find the plasticy waterproof bags are good, but if you put a wet rope back in it, it goes all fusty as it cant breathe/dry very well, just remember to take it out and dry it proper, the fabric bags are good for breathability, but everythin gets wet! the sherril bags are good, we have a couple of the big kit bags which arnet the best idea, as half of your kit your not using also have to come out and get covered in muck/wet/left behind!
  17. as we are aware, there are strict guidelines on the use of the aa logo, whilst i am proud to be a member of such an organisation, and would quite happily promote said organisation, i find i cannot use the logo in certain situations, which i can fully understand the AA's stance on this. ie; i cannot take a copy of the logo to a custom kit designer, and have it embroidered onto my stihl hiflex jacket, along with several other logos such as yale cordage, isc krabs etc, just in the same way as helmet stickers. but if i were to purchase a reguler polo t shirt, and just happenned to be wearing it at work one day, would this be acceptable?
  18. agood morning chaps!! this forum is a great idea, as iv always found trying to actualy talk to people very hard! theres always an answerfone on the end of the line! just renewend my technicians membership!
  19. its all not out till mid summer, your local dealer should easily be able to order it once its available, all my kit has been ordered already, so when it comes in il be top of the list!!
  20. ive got both. and yes it is a required ticket. just like felling large trees on a small tree ticket, your just askin 4 trouble.
  21. here we go again! yep ive got both tickets. the tickets are required, but the biggest prob is that it means nowt if you dont do as youv been told!! we all know that doing things by the book down to the last letter is nigh on impossible, but that doesnt mean you can cut the corners on purpose!! most people wont get those two tickets cus they think they are covered by 38/39. just like doing a small trees felling cut on a large tree, they only have 31, and dont need 32/33 cus they use a ridiculously big saw with an oversized bar instead!!
  22. its simple, any idiot can buy a van n saws, and call themselves a tree surgeon. i like to be considered as an arborist, i might not be the best arborist, but im trying to get there, a tree surgeon just doesnt care, they just want the kudos of "bein ard", just tell them they are doin it wrong and wait 4 the sparks to fly!! my boss once said im a rubbish tree surgeon, for which im actualy quite proud!! MUPPETTS!!!!!!!
  23. not bad at all!! mick burns is a good chap, he was one of my college practical instructers, as you can imagine, we did a lot of "felling"!!!! i also did his carving course, very good it was!
  24. which is probably going to be one of the most easily abused get-out clauses in the system. as one persons idea of hot is diff to the next person, and lets face it, some peeps dont even like wearin type c anyway.
  25. anything ground based is type A-front anything aeriel based is type C-all round
