  1. my dealer has a copy waitin for me. the class2 hiflex is because of the new kevlar outer has been extended upto the thigh, im still waitin for the climbin troosers wivout the ballistics for comps tho. the calendar is ok, but iv seen better, am i realy not the only one with the sticky pages then? i always assumed it was a printing error...................honest guv!!! iv you go to a good dealer, you can also get the advertisin materials catalogue,
  2. ive heard all sorts of storys, including puttin a blob of 2s oil down the sparkplug hole! just do as it says in the manual is best, as most dealers worth their salt would have started it prior to sellin it as part of the service.
  3. its like an mot. you can take a car to 100 testers, and youl get 100 different answers, ie some pass, some fail minor, some fail miserably. yet the rules are the same and apply throughout. the system is a big mess. get your heads together and sort it out.
  4. sugios are fine, but the johnny is curved, which hinders usage of cuz im cack-handed. the ibuku is the best as its the same size, but has a strait johnny. its also just in regulation lenght for comps!
  5. sounds like a great start, remember you can NEVER have enough krabs!
  6. theres no way you bust it by other manly means, big boy! u sure u dont lunge??
  7. its actualy quite popular with wood turners, my ex's dad does abit of that. althoug i think you can only get bowls and such for it, as i think the spalted bit dont take too kindly to a chisel!
  8. its no good having a floppy end in your rope........
  9. splices are fine. they will work in a standard cambium saver, just stick a knot in the end of your rope just up from the splice before retrieval, cuz its a long climb back up there!!
  10. yeah, iv had it once. they are usualy great if looked after properly. you can get replacement sections for it, about 80squids methinks?
  11. if you want, you can re-tune the saw using the h,l,al screws. you need a tachometer to do the H screw tho, as over doing it will foul up the engine.
  12. il be honest wiv ya, iv concocted a small (13mm) lowerin kit about five years ago and iv only used it probably 6 or 8 times! its perfectly capable of some big takedowns tho, like a chestnut wiv a 4ft dia stem. ud be better to get a new one tho, Welcome to sherriltree.com - Search Results for "sherriltree.com" do a wide range of bits, including a palm sized portawrap, it would go great wiv their black widow riggin rope.
  13. you have to understand there are many people who realy dont give a flying monkey about the system and regs. iv worked for a few people with the attitude of; wheres your lowerin rope? (i am the employee, You are supposed to provide the kit, not me) ditto for climbin kit, ppe, etc put red diesel in the van, cuz iv got a special licence for it (i kid you not) if you want this kit, you get it. we dont ponce aboutwith handsaws here. the list is endless, but you get the picture? the record for ppe currently stands at one year to get me a secondhand pair of ballistics that are three sizes too big.
  14. your boss sshoudnt realy do it himself as this can lead to passing kit that sholud fail, simply cuz he cant afford (be arsed) to get a new item. as long as you are impartial when testing, you should be fine. my boss uses an outside tester, who mainly does cranes/ fall arrest/mewp testing. its not very comforting when he picks up a piece of kit and says 'whats this then'!! or when he rates a harness still with kit attached as one item, rather then testing the bits properly and seperatly, just because the climber left it on the harness when it was put away!!
  15. not sure how much south west, but jo hedger@arborventure does it, she is in hampshire area. although if there is a group, most trainers will travel?
  16. well you see, i like double esterlon, and i also like portland braid......... but which is best? theres only one way to find out.............................. FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. lets be honest, i was brought up to always take a packed lunch and flask. i might stop at the burgervan once in a blue moon, but thats all. i do work with some idiots who will drive miles out of the way just for a bacon n egg roll everyday, the daft thing is its off to the cornershop 4 lunch, and theres always a row of empty coke cans across the dashboard. then they wuss out of a tree because "they cant get up it" i kid you not!!!
  18. you should have a generic ra, which covers the obvious hazards, ie chainsaws - use ppe. there should also be a site specific ra, which covers hazards on that site only, ie terrain, nearest hospital? you can have a tickbox to refer to specifics in the generic ra, using saws - tick.
  19. on most trees il have a 3m strop or flipline, on larger trees il go to a 5m strop.
  20. next carrbridge is 4th of sept. or see thread dates 2010 in tree climbing comps.

  22. WE HAVE DATES The provisional date for the Scottish open chainsaw carving champs is the 4th of sept, at carrbribge. full details CarveCarrbridge - Scottish Open Chainsaw Carving Competition - Home
  23. yep!! your "kudos" comes from the acomplishment of joining!!
  24. as a member you wont get much, discounts on variuos bits, and publications. and the kudos that comes with it. you cant advertise being an approved contractor as the regs require you to get the additional bits for it. but its better than the isa................
  25. Riddle me this.................. the general rule is rope and friction cords have to be different diameters to grip and work efectivly. ie 13mm rope/10mm cord 11mm rope/8mm cord so why does the 13mmrope/13mmsplit tail combo work? and why not a 13mm rope/13mm cord? how about a 11mm rope/10mm cord? as mine works! iv even used a 11mm rope/13mmsplit tail that works wivout any slippage. so would a 11mmrope/11mm split tail be fine? by the way, i am a skinny lightweigth chap, and the above combos are tied wiv a blakes hitch or a vt. any ideas?
