  1. lets be honest, most peeps, including me are very unprepared for such a thing, i kno what id do in most situations to get a climber down. but iv neva needed to. in most cases id have to start climbing from scratch, as most employers will tell you to stop playing about wiv second access lines and get on wiv the job! a rescue kit is irrelevant, as a climber (cs38+) should have all the kit on site regardless.
  2. hi chaps, i tryed posting a few days ago, but me poota went la-la and i lost the whole thing!! anyhoos, having worked for numerous employers, all either aa, isa or not, i can say the system is very easily abusable. including aa who wont supply kit/ppe, isa who say do it like this and then next job is fell a tpo tree etc etc......... peoples attitudes need to change, youve made the effort to be a quality member of society, but you need to keep it up, its no good putting it at the bottom of the "filing" pile!! youv paid your membership to be part of the wider industry, and an organisation that is trying to improve things. but it dont stop there! we all need help sometimes, its no good siting and moaning, its up to YOU to change it.
  3. HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! said pics were taken at Grimsthorpe castle, aka my back garden!! the castle and gardens are open to the public from easter.............oops did i say that out loud?

  4. is this abit like "wheres wally"??? methinks hes sitting in front of the telly wiv a beer!!
  5. go with chain tension first, then idle screw, and maybe low screw, neva touch high screw wivout a tachometer!
  6. theres possibly a way to adjust the height of the headband, but id doubt it. what do you expect wiv that swedish rubbish tho? get yourself a quality french or german one!!!!! failing that, just tell him to stop bein a big girls blouse and get on wiv it!!!!
  7. general rules are dont work alone, reccy'ing is a tad different. id say dont if you dont feel confident to, and make sure you have some1 to check on you regularly, failing that, organise a get-together! u say ur in an arboretum, but have no1 with a 38?? im assuming u contract out your work then? and no im not a contractor before you ask!!
  8. the best one i had was a fountains issue smock type thingy, i was gutted when i had to return it! the nearest and best i found is the windsor topex, its the same outer material but has a plastic liner in it. fantastic .
  9. try reading ALL of the threads!!!!!!!!
  10. nope, methinks iv got a bit of it as a footlocking strop.......... ................nope, thats the sirius reep
  11. i got nowt cus no-one luvs me!! just think of all the peace n quiet.............
  12. i use the usb dongle for my net, the bars are usualy at 2-3, which is fine. but recently the transfering of data is playing up!
  13. i believe treevolution have a course for it, i also believe jo hedger@arborventure may do something along those lines, i must admit id like to have a go at it sometime, im all booked for a shed-load of courses at the mo tho,
  14. the assessors are not there to catch you out. you either know it or you dont. there wont be anything you wont have been taught, just relax and enjoy it.
  15. did i get that bit wrong? i do apologise. lumbering jack is class!! i mentioned to one of the staff at the apf about the design of the t-shirts, are you updating them ie forsetry logo on front, L.J pic on back? how about a hoodie or fleece?
  16. iv seen them in honey bros, althou its an amerian idea. you can get one from sheriltree.com as i believe they are the importers, any1 else will stick a cut on the price. i noticed my boss has one, it looked very shiny, just like the rest of his kit!! i remember a similar one years ago, it had a bit of velcro on the end!!
  17. im sure i just said that?? is there an echo in here?? you are very right about the difference between forest/arb cuts. usualy the arbs are sloppy with cuts cus theres a pullin rope on the tree, if the cuts are cock eyed, itl go wrong!! rope or no rope!! the cs tickets were all designed for forest felling, but the system should be applied on every tree, regardless of situation and location.
  18. its a good cut, i prefer mine wiv custard!!
  19. fraid so matey! chapter 8 etc, the problem is this is very important to get trained in this, as just throwing cones into the middle of any old road can lead to prosecution under the highways act (obstruction of a public highway) make sure you try and follow the book on this one.
  20. well what did you expect!!!?? stihl have had the same thing out for donkeys years! its called the quickstop brake, and its just a modified dead-mans trigger, its no more cumbersome than the reguler dead-mans. choccy teapot methinks.
  21. methinks your about there m'dearie! dont turn up wiv a 200t, a chap did on my course, the instructer was not amused!! have fun!!
  22. thats inexperience for ya! its not the balls up thats the problem - its "why did it go wrong and what will you do better next time?" split levels on larger trees require wedges instead of levers. ok peeps, by the book - gob is between45-75o on the angle, down to a fith to a quarter of the trees dia, and meet up with a level bottom cut to match. back cut goes in about an inch higher (max) than bottom cut, to meet up with back of gob cut, and leave about 10% of the trees dia as a level hinge, parrellell with gob cut. if the tree doesnt fall, remove saw, switch off, place in a safe place, and use a lever to move the tree over with, once falling leg it!!!!! its more important to fell as close to ground as poss, more from a safety point of veiw, as you will have more control of the tree. felling a few inches higher than ground and cutting stump to a level flush is fine. lecture over. tea break?
  23. ul find u have to either subscribe (essential arb) or be a member of an organisation (AA - newsletter + essential arb) or isa - treeline
  24. yes, altho i was refferin to the vallorbe ones, there in the sherriltree catalogue for last year.
