  1. So what happened to the ISA Big Weekend? one major flaw is the whole comp thing is very member-orientated. Newbies just dont get a look in, unless you're in the clicky group. where do you advertise said comps? ive only seen the isa magazine (only available to paying members) and the isa website, (2 weeks to the uk+i, no entry forms and not a lot else!) most peeps interested will want A comp, They're not bothered who organises it (isa,3atc,). But yes, a shed-load of improvements could be made. i dont wish to be rude, i know organising an event is hard at the best of times. but as a newbie to comps, the actual events are fine, its just i felt very lost and alone. which is the biggest turn off for a forty squids entry fee.
  2. regular glyphosate based stuff is ok, but its just a basic contact. slap it on neat for tree stumps sometimes works. should be ok for weeds, just might need several apps for new weeds coming through, best to put on a tad stronger mix.
  3. to be honest chaps, get your splicing stuff from nod. best place around! theres now a dedicated section on Tree Climbing Equipment Online Shop - Treeworker.co.uk - Home a toss wand is the best way, rather than a shed-load of fids, its one-size-fits-all. the piano-wire fid is fantastic, and is specialy made and designed by nod (legend!) its the only place youl get one. Blimey! i should be on commission for this!
  4. what show was this then????????
  5. i can only suggest animatedknots.com. by the way, its a swabian prussik (ref. treeclimbers knot book, D Lingens, 2006)
  6. Bless you!! *passes the box of tissues*
  7. general set up is fine tho im not sure what the knot is, its defo not a V.T. just try it on a low branch first, just to see if it will hold your weight, (the knot!)
  8. if you get to the premier calender, the tour of britain or the tour series, or even most uk races its very easy to get as close as possible. at the lincoln gp, i was riding team bikes up and down the feed zone! look on Peterborough Cycling Club UK. - Home > galleries> tour series. i did the pics. we actualy held a prologue stylee race around the circuit!
  9. you forgot to add..........."and bring lots of beer"
  10. incidently, did you go to the london prologue a couple of years back? i spent most of it wanderin around the team buses,
  11. did you see the punch-up at the end of stage 6? i only got a quick shot during the highlights prog, looked like a quick-step and a casse d'espargnie?
  12. Threats?? you mean like............ .........now listen up, poota, just behave or your goin out the window!!!!!!
  13. one manager told me i was not alowed to use the ms460 saw, cus i didnt have cs32. i was the only one with the experience (learnt on 036n084@12yrs old!) i was the only one with the quals (nc,nd,) i was the only one with the common sense. everyone else bricked it! the manager was fresh out of toff school and no experience, so you see, you need all three experience, training and common sense. how much of each is your choice. i know im not the best, and i most certainly dont think im anywhere near perfect. thats why i know when to seek help from the right person.
  14. i know that bit!! is the 101 bit a reference to summat? its not afag,
  15. exsqueeze me??????? anyway, just make sure youve got enough rope, a clear run, and some cash to replace the burnt out friction cord!! and yes, ive done it on a split tail with a blakes.
  16. ive never landed a job based on my national cert or dimploma. my lifetime of working in the industry or my enthusiasm. only nptc's. the most basic and simplest tickets available, and yes, my n.c, nd, my life experiences and my enthusiasm have taught me how to pass those tickets at 100% without need for the training. it shows when my collegues insist they know best, cos they have their basic tickets, bu**er all experience, no common sense and the wrong attitude. hey presto wrecked and abused kit, third party damage on most jobs and a wasted fortune on new troosers every 3weeks. im interested in improving these standards by moving into education. my experiances, quals and common sense tell me where to direct my attentions. its no use just sittin n moaning (even tho i feel like that too!).
  17. What does your common sense tell you?
  18. 23/24/25th september 2010. starts usualy 10 til 5ish? try APF 2010, the UK?s largest forestry and arboricultural exhibition is returning to the same location as its hugely successful 2008 event.
  19. it all depends on your (positive?) attitude. you could be trained with simple tickets, but its up to you how they are implemented into the industry, tickets are always something to improve on, get your technique right first then work on the speed later, you could go with very basic tickets, and rush into a job like a bull to a red rag. get it right, youl never know. get it wrong, will you listen to a more qual'd youngster telling you why it went wrong? just cus they learnt a higher level ticket? experience is a great thing, so are qual's, and common sense. its up to you which one you use?
  20. a few years back, the owner of a pub across the road from our site said "give us your woodchip and we'l sort something out". so we dumped two loads of waste on his kids playground area, went inside at lunchtime..................and got sausages n mash wiv proper onion gravy!! very nice!! we didnt have the heart to tell him the chipped hawthorn trees arnt the best for a kids playground tho.......
  21. fs400's are good, but wont last more than a couple of years with a nylon line. id go bigger for a blade, such as a 480 or a 500. get one with power, itl last donkeys years, dont put the biggest head you can find on it, same goes for chainsaws get a shorter bar and bigger powerhead.
  22. its ok, im getting quite used to being blamed for nothing hey, whatever floats your boat......................
  23. id suggest all manufacturers have details on their websites for whipping n stitching, however if you are on about stitching as per the ocean poly eye2eye slings then dont bother, as its done by a very robust machine! your hands will never forgive you!
