  1. good for carving, but doesnt last. just use it for practice pieces and go for something more durable for the finished item.
  2. yep! they are definatly splices!!
  3. nowt wrong wiv blaze or velocity. best thing is just to try any and all ropes you can. ropes do differ not just in performance affected by diameter, but also constructions and even manufacturer.
  4. tho if we're talkin weather girls............. Keeley donovan, sarah cruddas or (the sadly now retired) jo blythe
  5. somewhere like a large estate or arboretum where i could realy look after the trees, watching them grow from whippets into huuuuuge trees. much better than contract work, planting trees n leavin them to suffer better still to be working with peeps who care, not the cut n dash type of idiots i have had to put up with! teaching people to care is the most important thing, so teaching in such a place would be great!
  6. generaly just turn up, sign in and have a go. some shows like pre-entry, details are about anyhoos! most gear can be borrowed, but at least a helmet, boots, gloves, harness and spikes as a minimum.
  7. im working on a re-direct with two pulleys, but ive never managed to see how a re-direct is retrievable. under the meaning that once retrieved, you still need the working end to be returned to you, or youl be stranded! as the end will swing away from you to sit back under the origonal anchor point.
  8. nowt wrong wiv that, most guys at my old college did the nd forestry and then the nd arb later. although you can just as easily go for nptc's
  9. pembroke show? do tell..........
  10. Hi, Im looking to move into a teaching/instructing role, preferably in a college environment. Im happy to relocate, or travel. Ive got an ND, an NC, most nptcs, and a lifetime of experiences on different contracts and working environments. Im also currently doing a PTLLS. im looking at a few websites of colleges, but any help would be very appreciated. or if any tutors are reading this............... Thanks for taking the time to read this, just send a pm or reply here.
  11. methinks youl just have to prod n poke for questions, if hes got an nd he should be able to at least say which college he was at. or at least say something about the course?
  12. just go 4 it! im not complainin!! try souvineer tees, instead of "you must wear tees". this happens at the 3atc, it means climbers can enter as a team so all team members wear the same kit, and is more likely to please managers in letting their workforce have a jolly, as they can wear employers kit. all climbers do the tree seperatly, fastest in each class gets the goodies, but the team prize is the fastest of team of three. souvineer tees can be bought cheap enuff, but also by spectators or public using the fun tree. most climbers will buy a tee anyway
  13. haha! you posted that one quickly, i just re read your origional post and thought id better change it quick!!!! D'oh!!
  14. im not good wiv pootas!! i cant get pics onto forum posts for some reason, my poota only get pics onto my albums. and i still havent managed that yet!
  15. ul need a 3day for that much!! best thing is to get a load of sponsors to help fund it. that should help bring the entryfees down whilst still having decent prizes and goings on. main event by isa/stihl prizes by several arb suppliers pasta party by luigi!
  16. There may be trouble ahead, but while theres music, and laughter, and fun and romance..... lets face the music and dance!!!!!!
  17. hence another bikey influence - licences! these are catagory based on your standards and abilities. and it could be possible to extend this to other comps such as the 3atc this will help to ensure fairness in catagories, at the present a novice climber can only enter 3 comps before being moved to expert regardless of their abilities. so the chances of a fair comp are small as a decent final placing is non-existent.
  18. cheers matey! i had a rough idea, just needed the finer details
  19. i know im not making much sense, so bear with me. i know its all volounteer work, and im happy to help. the bc dont organise bike races either, their just the governing body. volounteers organise bike races under BC regs, volounteers organise climbing comps under ISA rules, so im hoping you can see a few links?
  20. hi jarnii! yes your right. the main prob is planning. my background is organising bike races, the date for a race has to be submitted to the BC (equivelant to isa) a year before the day. so it is advertised in the relevant books and website well in advance, (imagine a book with every race in the country for one season!) its full of details including organisers contacts, venues, dates, catagories etc. entryforms are universal, you just write which event you want to do along with personal details, there is a deadline (2 or 3 weeks before event) as well as entry on line for a slightly higher fee
  21. the problem is not the large soft eye. the problem is the pulley being used, im not sure how big the cocoon eye is, but i do know if you did the same thing with a reguler isc stylee pulley the ropes eye will get stuck on retrieval. much the same as pulling the wrong end of the rope to get a reguler cambium saver down?
  22. trust me, the information given is about as much use as a choccy teapot. for my first comp, i just had a date, nothing else! the only way i got help was by looking through the old isa magazine, reading who took part in the comps, and tracking down and ringing jo hedger at all times of the day to ask silly questions. Jo was very helpful, but i shouldnt need to do that in the first place! Friday afternoon and i still had no idea if my entryform had been accepted. thats why i started the dates thread, to get as much info as poss to help people out.
  23. erm..........how long is a piece of pipe???? by the way, im on about a pole-climbing strop, not a reguler flipline/strop
  24. Whats the process of constructing a strop? i mean pipe length and diameter, what types of coverings?, handles or not? ive already got a roll of 20mm pipe and some cord, just need the rest (like some info!!)
  25. nod was doin them at the wales woodfest. very good idea but im still not convinced at the retrieval prospects!
